You’re becoming quite proficient using the mini lathe. That came out real nice. I remember my mother used to use one of them to sew my socks. Kudos to Mrs. Magdad for still daring socks. I didn’t think they were still used in this throw away world.
Thanks Frank! Mrs Magdad uses it to repair socks she's knitted.
Your Darning Egg's are sweet. My Grandma used an old lightbulb to darn our socks. Thanks Magdad
Thanks Christopher! Your grandma had a good idea!💡
Beautiful! I always enjoy seeing your little lathe in action. I'm guessing this will be Mrs. Magdad's favorite darning egg!
Thanks Chris! She loves it!
I'm sure your wife will love it, the wood combination is beautiful. I had never seen how they where used. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I hope you had a joyful Easter.
Thanks Michael! She loved it!
Very nice Bud!! Happy Easter to you and the Mrs!!☻
Thanks RoadKing! Happy Easter!🐰
Really nice! That little lathe works great. I'm sure she will like it! I love the combination of woods.
She loves it! It was a fun project and good practice with my new tools.
Fantastic!!! Looks awesome!! New challenge on Monday that is right up your alley!!! 😂👍
Thanks ScoutCrafter! I'm just finishing up your spade bit scraper challenge!
You're really doing a great job with your mini lathe.
Thanks Steve! Someday I'll get a "real" lathe!
Beautiful darning egg. Also, it's nice you do projects for or with your wife and daughter. That helps build strong relationships.
Thanks Hal!
For small stuff, i made my own lathe using a drill bit attached to a battery powered dremel tool. The main purpose for the improvising is for cost and the ability to work on very small tops and caps for jars and tobacco pipes or sometimes just to make a dowel.
I've used my drill press as a lathe in the past. My tiny lathe is training for when I get a "real" lathe someday.
Happy Easter weekend to everyone and a egg a good project for Easter hope Mrs Magdad gets lot of use with it
Happy Easter Larry!🐰
Turned out better than OK. What a great result. I love walnut and it combines well with the cherry. Happy Easter. 🐰
Thanks Robert! Happy Easter!🐰
That darning egg came really nice. The Cherry and Walnut look great together. I appreciate you mentioning the products you use and also, during the video, you include things like mentioning the grit(s) of paper your using during the process. For me at least, I find that interesting and informative. I think it is nice that you always include links for the items you used in the video too. Thank you.
Thanks! My hope is that my videos inspire folks to give the projects a try!
Cool project! Skew is scray at first..but your a natural I believe so you will have it mastered in No time... wood combo is nice too...I bet mrs.magdad is happy!! Good stuff!
Thanks Vic! Thanks again for the walnut!
Beerdrinker beet me to it, but here goes, that is an eggcellent gift for Mrs magdad for Easter. Happy Easter Morty!
Happy Easter!🐰
Great job and looking forward to hearing if Mrs. Magdad liked it. Happy Easter. This would have been an appropriate weekend to resurrect a tool and give it new life.
Mrs Magdad loves it! She posted a couple photos on Instagram @mrsmagdad
Happy Easter!🐰
@357magdad oh, that's great to hear she loves it.
Maxing out the Little Lathe again!........I swear I've worn thru over a thousand pairs of socks in my lifetime so far........I love Walnut but tends to give me a rash, so definitely need to wear gloves, long sleeves and a mask when I work with it for any period of time.
I'm having a blast with my tiny lathe! Sanding cherry tends to stain my hands.
Great looking job, and I'm sure Mrs MagDad will like it.
She loves it! Thanks Stewart!
The darning egg looks very nice. Well done. I do love the contrast of walnut and cherry.
If you have some thin melamine pieces you can add burn lines at the bottom of the beads to accent the beads. The friction of the edge of the melamine rubbing on the wood will quickly burn the wood.
You have good company with the many people, including myself who find it too easy to get a catch with the skew.
Holding the point of the skew down is a good way to make a small groove for burn lines.
Dave.
Thanks Dave! I want to experiment with burning grooves.
Nice project.
Happy Easter to you and your family.
Thanks John! Happy Easter!🐰
Happy Easter. Great choice of woods for your darning egg. Love the contrasting colors.
Thanks! Happy Easter!🐰
Excellent results, I think she will love it! You’re getting pretty good on that lathe!
Thanks John! Mrs Magdad loves it!
Very nice indeed, I was not even aware of a tool used to darn socks. Happy Easter to the whole Magdad family.
I did know about it either until I saw Mrs Magdad using one! Happy Easter!🐰
Nicely done, Good choice on the wood they do look good together. I think I will look into making some beed tools.
Thanks Dale! I used a diamond bit in my Dremel to make the beading tool out of a HF chisel.
Yes, it turned very good. That small lathe is really does the job! Happy Easter.
That timy lathe is a blast! Happy Easter Tony!
That lathe is awesome and you do great work on it. Awesome video!
Thanks! Someday I'll get a "real" lathe...
Very nice work. The contrasting woods look good together with just the right shine. Happy Easter to you and the family!
Thanks Jim! Happy Easter!
Hi there. That turned out really great. You know way way back in the day. My mother used a light bulb to patch my socks 😮. HAPPY EASTER.👍❤..
Thanks Larry!💡 Happy Easter!
The contrast of the different wood is ideal.
I like it too!
The Darning Egg looks great! I am impressed with the capability of the mini lathe. Thanks for sharing this and Happy Easter.
Thanks John! That tiny lathe is a blast! Happy Easter!🐰
It’s so nice to see someone using eye protection. Lots of video makers don’t show that.
A face shield is ideal for people like me who wear eyeglasses.
Both handy tools the darning egg and the lathe that made it. Good job.
Thanks! It was a fun project!
Well done!! Ive heard of a darning egg but never saw one or knew what it was used for. Good stuff magdad.
Thanks! I didn't know what one was either until I saw Mrs Magdad using it to mend socks!
I think darning socks is an eggcellent talent. Happy Easter to you!
Mrs Magdad is amazing!
Happy Easter To You And Family. Turned Out Great.
Thanks Kennneth! Happy Easter!🐰
"Turned Out" great Magdad! Love the wood species! Just ordered the center finder and the drill bits
Thanks! Those center drills are super handy!
@@357magdad Thank YOU for the products you post in the description, most handy 😎
Very nice Magdad. I like that wax finish. I'm going to look fun some of it.
Wax-it-All is made of mineral oil, beeswax and carnauba so it's like an oil finish combined with a wax.
Happy Easter! Mrs Magdad should be proud. Another beauty
Thanks Matt! She loves it! Happy Easter!🐰
Very nice!
Thanks Larry!
The egg could be a nice gear shift knob too.
A gearshift knob would be a great tiny lathe project!
Proof positive that time and effort can produce excellent results.
Thanks Pete!
OH MY DARNING that came out great nice job Mr Magdad leaving the wood at its natural colors was a good choice Happy Easter to you and the Magdad family and Mr Chuck and his family
Happy Easter Roger!
That project turned out really nicely. I can see a bigger lathe on the horizon for you. Also tool sharpening tools for your chisels. It all escalates from here mate.
Regardless which way you go, that was an enjoyable video. Love seeing your lathe episodes. Great job buddy. Take care and good health to you and your family.
Thanks Shedman! I'll get a "real" lathe someday!
Well done, That is a small lathe. Happy Easter.
Thanks! I'm having a blast with my tiny lathe! Happy Easter!🐰
Darn, I did not know about this topic. Where you been? Nice video, as always. Looks like cool eye protection.
Mending socks and clothes is old fashioned. Mrs Magdad uses the darning egg to repair socks she has knitted.
Great work.Looks excellent. I wish you and mrs magdad Happy Easter
Thanks! Happy Easter!🐰
Beautiful job. I never knew there was such a thing as a darning egg, but I' m not really familiar with the darning/ knitting world anyway. Your lathe is small but really seems capable. The results are very attractive. My hunch is that a larger lathe is in your future. Happy Easter to all.
Thanks Pat! I didn't know what one was either until I saw Mrs Magdad using it! Happy Easter!
Nice job on the mini lathe. I haven’t tried anything that big on mine yet.
Happy Easter to you and your family.
I about maxed it out Barry! Happy Easter!🐰
Thank you so much for the video and happy Easter to both of yous and Chuck
Happy Easter Joe!🐰
A happy Easter to you and Chuck!
Happy Easter!🐰
Very nice work,looks great !
Thanks!
It came out very nice!
Thank you!
Great job. If you ever loose your job, you have a great career in darning eggs.😅
Thanks Wire!
Nice work Magdad, a truly Egg-cellent result ! 😉
The contrasting timbers look beautiful together, lathe projects are always great fun, and those turning tools were a bargain !
Wouldn't it be great if the handle was hollowed out and contained the darning needles, maybe not possible on the mini-lathe though !
Thanks Andy! They make darning eggs with a hollowed out section for needles. That would be a good project for me someday when I have a "real" lathe.
@@357magdad Thanks Magdad, I'd not seen those, just seemed a good idea.
Happy Easter frim the deep south!!!
I know i may soubd selfish, but its time Magdad!!
Or should i all do include Ms Magdad. Go ahead and buy a proper lathe. Your abilities have taken the mini far enough!! I understand your frugal ways and agree with most if them...let go, just do it...
Great video today 👍👍👍😎
Happy Easter Big Jim!🐰 Hopefully someday I'll have room for a "real" lathe!
Hi MD, another fantastic video👍👏, a super outcome with a couple of beautiful pieces of wood as usual your video came with with some very useful tips. I am working my through your back catalog of videos 😅
Thanks again
Sam
Ps my sympathy goes out to Mrs MagDad as I also have the same of type of allergies that she suffers with, all year round although coming into spring we have all types of pollen to cope with as well.
Take care
Thanks for watching Sam! Mrs Magdad has to be very careful about what she eats, washes with and smells!
Happy Easter to you and your family.
Happy Easter Terry!🐰
Looks great to me!
Thanks!
Your starting to cut some teeth using your little lathe...nice...🖖
Thanks! It will be featured in next week's episode too!
Hope you had a happy Easter.
We had a nice Easter Glen, thanks!
Beautiful piece of wood 😃😃
Thanks!
Nice job. :) Happy Easter.
Thanks Ben! Happy Easter!🐰
Awesome!
Thanks!
You seem to really like using the lathe. IIRC Harbor has a small model that is much larger than the pen lathe you're using. Might be worrth the investment? Neither way, nice work!
Someday I'll have rood for a "real" lathe!
Very entertaining. I used to do all this 15 years ago. Now i do motorbikes.
Thanks! I'm having a blast with my tiny lathe!
It turned out great but I HATE darned socks as they always give me blisters. If I get a hole in my sock I throw the socks away to prevent my wife darning them.
Thanks Tony!
@357magdad are you guys ok? Did you cause that earthquake?
Chuck sneezed...
@@357magdad Gesundheit, Chuck!
