Today on Science with Greg, we are testing the worlds cheapest lathe, it only cost £25, which is a bargain, shipping included. We make a Christmas tree to test the performance of the motor, chuck, tools, and size. we were overall impressed with its performance, however setting it up was inconvenient and time consuming.

For someone making miniature furniture, dolls, model parts (IE Small stuff) it the right size. The fact that you have to Kludge it to work is just added value. lol

Oh BTW the sawdust and shavings? Mix with a binder and press it into logs, bricks, boards, etc (even molded shapes) .. job done.

I thought about buying a slightly more expensive version with a blue paint spray paint but it’s absolutely tiny seeing it in video😂

Used one of these with small improvements for small tools handles using normal lathe gouges. The gouges that came with this lathe are trash.

Can anyone tell me when the collet is in its closed position, what is the smallest drill bit size it can hold tightly?

Ahem, no one seems to do this. Turn the tool rest around?

If you turn the tool rest around it becomes too close to the wood.

You could cut the notch further along where the tool rest is secured to allow a larger range of movement.
