they really didn't. near 0 comprehension of WHY things and characters are the way they are. which, if you had even high school lvl reading comprehension and paid any attention to the story, AND FF1, you'd piece the shit together.
@@Cumfortablehe said endgame, not story, it's a team ninja game, it's all about the combat and progression, the main story is just a glorified tutorial to prepare you for endgame
I've been telling people that SoP is one of the best games Squeenix has produced in the last decade. It's old school Squenix in the sense that they didn't take themselves seriously and thought about making a fun game.
Excellent review. I really enjoyed the game and this pretty much summarises my feelings with it too. It's so bad and yet it's just so good. The same with all other Team Ninja stuff, the gameplay is absolute top tier and feels great but the story and systems can be just a mess at times. What always makes me happy with this and the Nioh games is they take the time to put in CO-OP. It's not tacked on CO-OP like some devs do and you go from pretty much start to finish in the same lobby with a friend.
So to address some of your criticisms. - The lack of development for the characters make sense when you realize Jack and co had their memories wiped by the Lufenians before setting out on this journey, so there is no backstory for them to remember in the first place, and they're all programmed with the unquenchable desire to kill Chaos, it's just that Jack is the most vocal about it. -Stranger of Paradise is more of a fantasy mystery story than a traditional fantasy story. You're suppose to piece together the story of the game yourself through the various clues the game gives you; Through the notes and files, the subtilties and nuances of both the dialogue and the characters, the relation between Jack's friends and the fiends, etc. It's a story that isn't going to feed you everything right off the bat, you have to figure it out for yourself. -The darkness thing works in this case because as most FF fans seem to be unaware of, Final Fantasy 1, which Stranger of Paradise is a prequel to, was a Light vs Darkness story with special guest timetravel. It's not Nomura Kingdom Hearts crap as many think it is, because one, Nomura didn't write this, and two, Kingdom Hearts got most of it's plot elements, including the Light vs Darkness theme, from Final Fantasy. -The auto-equip feature may help you get through the game's main missions on your first playthrough, if your playing on Easy and Normal. On Hard auto-equip will barely help, but on Chaos and higher it's about as effective as a pebble hitting a stone wall. Stranger of Paradise is a game centered around builds, the right build for the right situation so to speak, you can't just be strong, you have to be smart. There's also the fact that SoP and it's predecessors the Nioh games are skill-based games first then build games second, the first playthroughs are meant to teach you and make sure you are good at the game's combat system before you start learning how to properly build on the higher difficulties, because the builds won't help much if you don't know how to properly fight first. -In relation to the last point, I feel as though this is one of the few looter games that actually does looting right, and I say this as someone who despises looters. Looters often substitute for complexity in a game that sometimes doesn't really need it. In the case of SoP though, it's looting system works because SoP already has complexity with the job system, so the looting isn't substituting for complexity, it enhances the complexity that's already there. So the stats/affinities of your gear actually do matter in this case. You want to have looting so you can make a variety of builds for both Jack and his friends in the various situations and scenarios you come across. *Forget the last two, you talked about in this last portion of your video.*
I kinda agree with you, but I still think the game lacks explanation at the beginning. It uses the excuse that Jack doesn't want to know anything, but in the flashback of his past resets, he was interested.
@iac123 Not at all, Jack does express interest in why he feels the hunger/thirst to kill Chaos many times in the beginning of the game. One particular line is when him and the guys are fighting Chaos Advent in the first mission and he says to keep it alive because they need answers. If he didn't want to know, he would've just said to kill Chaos Advent and be done with it. Bear in mind in that each reset, his memory of past cycles gets erased, but the lingering desire to kill Chaos remained and worsened over time, mainly because he's subconsciously aware that he's stuck in a cycle but doesn't realize it. It's why he gave Sarah his crystal to remind him of his true goal, whenever he was to retrieve it, and it happened right when she died.
I'll make my point a bit clearer. In the flashbacks, he expresses a desire to know what's going on so much that he is responsible for creating the plan to stop the reset. Now, during the period in which the game takes place, he shows no interest at all until the end of the game, at least as I understood it. Therefore, I think yes, there was a lack of context at the beginning of the game, even though this is a characteristic of Jack. Thank you for your answer. @@TheCyclicGamer
I think the story premise has potential, but it is so horribly told and presented that it becomes bad. Even a good story idea can turn into shit if told poorly. That and the entire game is filled with dry characters unless Jack does something funny.
@@paledrake That dryness is what makes SoP's story work, otherwise it would be less intelligent for it, considering Stranger of Paradise is more of a mystery story where you are supposed to put the piece of the puzzle yourself instead of it telling everything to you. Bear in mind that it's not just the audience who don't know exactly what's going on and are trying to figure out the story for themselves, it's Jack and co too, and when they piece it all together in the end, you do too, it's one of the best examples of Ludonarrative Harmony in gaming, something FF constantly struggles with. People seem to have the impression nowadays that the only way to write a good story is to invest heavily into the characters as much as possible (Especially since this is a common trope in anime and FF borrows a lot from anime), but sometimes less is a whole lot more, and Stranger of Paradise is proof of this.
Going into the experience of this game as a massive FF fan, having played a ton of all of the Dissidia titles I remember feeling how much I felt betrayed by this at initial reveal, then less so as more things were revealed to the point where I was willing to give it a look. I've tracked down every single piece of story and lore this game was able to offer me and looking at the whole package now... I think they actually had a really good idea and a good concept for the story and characters in it BUT failed at actually translating that concept into a functional way in the actual game for about 96% of it. It really feels like we got all of the gameplay, but only the outline of the story and characters. Which is a shame as both of those are usually where FF titiles excell the most. Astos' fate was wonderfully tragic, but doesn't nearly hit you as hard as it could have. Likewise with the sacrifice of your party members; if only we had gotten some time to get to know them, their ties to the world and each other more... As someone who enjoys lore and story, I can think back on this and fill in the blanks with my imagination and go "Yeah, that works" but I wish I didn't have to and the game would have actually given us those moments. Paired with the weirdly framed and shot camera angles and the underplayed facial expressions it just falls flat. And it's not like it wouldn't have been possible with the models or their engine; to use Astos as an example again: the range of his subtle but strong facial expressions in the shot right after his "I might as well be" speach is fantastic at selling everything he feels in those few seconds. I'm not sure why story and characters got the short end of the stick, but it's a damn shame. Expecially since the gameplay is actually really good if you like that type of gameplay.
just go back and play FF1, FF2, and the Dissidia games if you haven't already. they all tie into each other, and technically every other FF. if they tried to explain EVERYTHING, it would literally take too long. just an example of something you and apparently so many others missed, Astos is also the same dark elf boss in FF1, AND Lufenians are also mentioned in FF1 and Dissidia, so you need to link that back yourself.
@@Cumfortable I've actually not missed either of those things. =D I adored every single piece of lore that tied in with what we had allready learned from the other games and I was glad and thankful for it; seeing as my first impression of this game was that it would NOT take those into consideration. I am very happy that impression was wrong, based on the lacking information of the first trailer and demos. Of course this game wouldn't be able to fully explain everything that happened in those other games; even if it were in logs as well, and that's not what I was lamenting about in my original post. I wanted more time with the characters established here; more time to see them interact as a group outside of the constant battles; small moments and impactful moments. A simple campfire chat would do wonders. Brief moments of having fun that aren't battles. Having Astos show up randomly for seemingly no reason to "bother the party" while he's subtly influencing where they go or don't go to keep them on the right track; maybe allowing the player to see a glimse of the pain. Actually seeing the first meeting of the party with the king that we only got told about on a text card at the start of the game... Little things like that, that allow you to form an emotional attatchment. There is so much _potential_ here that wasn't fully utilized.
@@skeletalcountdown Haven't played the game yet, but I share the exact same impressions about the story and lore based on what I've read and watched so far. It reminds me to the Star Wars prequels: intriguing world-building and nice character concepts handicapped by poor direction and execution. Our own imagination and expanded universe material can somehow do justice to its potential, but still it is a pity that the game rushed or didn't properly flesh out the storytelling.
It was just a short story. It doesn't help that it has to make sense in the narrative of FF1. But I don't think the story was the focus from the very beginning. Maybe don't assume things? Not every game is going to be for you.
I just watched the "Everything Wrong With" video for this game and had decided I wasn't going to bother but your vid has changed my mind. Recently I've defended Forspoken for similar reasons. People were far too harsh on the cutscenes even tho they shoulda been cut some slack since (tbh) JRPG cutscenes are usually pretty mid, though they've improved over time. Also didn't help that they backloaded the plot. Here tho it looks like there was a lot of intentional camp going on -- which i appreciate, and if executed properly will convince some people it's legitimately just a bad game Interesting take, better than the usual gamer declaration of it being "garbage" -- i got another game going on rn but someday, we'll be checking this out
I think this game is the sleeper game of the year last year, at least if you are a hardcore gamer that is going to invest the time into it. Yes, Elden Ring came out the same time and was an amazing experience. And then you beat it, and it is done. The post game sucked in that game because nobody wants to slug through another BOTW sized game multiple times when there is a lot of time spent walking around and you know where everything is. This game is the exact opposite, you beat it and then the game really starts. And it gets better and better the more you play it, and in my eyes this is the best DLC ever made in terms of replay value. As you say the game grows with you, giving you incentive to really learn and experience everything the game has to offer. The only other PS4 game that is this much fun to replay missions over and over again is MGS5.
I dont think the writting is bad?, I feel like they had fun by not abiding be the tired old tropes of edgy (just shy) nice inside protagonist or nice protagonist of FF and instead go into “What if we made FF abridged and put a guy who doesnt care about all this and just wants to get it over with…I love it, is refreshing, im tired of seeing the same long exposition cutscene explaining stuff for 20 minutes when it can be summed up in 20 seconds
Just found your vid today and I havnt been able to put the game down since i started last week. Feel bad for anyone who only ever played the basegame. The dual class system, the coop, its a seriously fun game.
Even after playing XVI I can surely say that this my favorite FF related thing to come out after Endwalker. I was not expecting this game to be as fun as it is. Jack instantly became one of my favorite characters in the franchise
My top 5 FF games is as follow myself in order. 1. FF14 2. FF16 3. SoP 4. FF7R 5. FF12 And it's not that the lower ones are bad I just never grew up playing FF titles and didnt really start playing them till after I started 14. I am near done og FF7 and I've bought 8 and 10 already, 9 I'll play through PS+ aswell but i started 12 early aswell because let's be real, Fran is in the game and Vieras are perfect.
@@pleasedontkillme1185If you're playing FF II make sure it's the PSP version as that has the most content and the leveling system isn't problematic in it. It's arguably the best version to play FF II with the sprites and music as well.
@@pleasedontkillme1185 no that's the pixel remaster most likely which isn't that bad but it doesn't have the arcane Labrynth which is the extra content. Other than that it's fine.
This. This was the video that convinced me to buy the game, specifically the stuff about grinding everything to like level 300 and stuff, I can't wait to start
This game is a masterpiece, but the true story content, tying the game to the entire FF Universe and Dissidia, really requires the three DLCs to be played. The base game really is incomplete. In the DLC, Jack Garland fully becomes a God (Chaos of Discord) and the true Warrior of Light emerges. This means Garland survives as a God even as he is vanquished by the WoL.
I don't think I missed it, I just thought it was poorly executed. I think the subversion of expectations was effective in the campier, less serious moments but when the game tried to subvert those expectations in more serious ways it didn't do it very well. I think ultimately there wasn't enough going on in the first 80% of the game (as I mentioned) for the admittedly interesting concept of the ending to work. This definitely wasn't a game where I came away thinking I didn't get it, rather I just felt like they could have implemented their ideas far better.
@ianbits the key takeaway is that you are not being told the story. You are experiencing it, all flaws included. The memories of the party are deficient all around, slowly coming back over time. Very much a journey rather than a tidied up package with a bow. It comes together when it needs to and does so amazingly in my opinion. It is a superb sleeper hit.
This review is how to tell people you never played Final Fantasy 1 while playing a game that is a Prequel to Final Fantasy 1 and most of the lore makes sense if you played it. Also thats Squares fault for not making that more clear.
Played FF1. A lot. This game takes a LOT of liberties to the point where I feel it’s probably better if you didn’t play FF1 😂 This feels more in-line with Dissidia’s weird-ass, with a much nicer end for Jack.

Do you know about the hidden mission with the Malboro that takes about two minutes to finish? Azure Memories: The Stymied. You can power level jobs and equipment in mere minutes with it.
Oh, man, this is your first video I see on my subscription page in literal years. And first ten seconds already made me grin so hard it hurts… Overall… this feels as if they wanted to do it Dark Souls. Tell a story without telling a story, yet they didn't understand how From Software does it (avoids it)? Ugh… Still have to get it during a sale, I guess.
Final Fantasy 1 was a game made decades ago on technology that has less processing power than modern toasters. This modern prequel managed to take a laughably simplistic game from an era when most games barely had any story at all and created an interesting spin. I found that the characters were amusingly simplistic at first, and gained an interesting depth and dedication to protecting people both from Chaos and their lufenian masters. A lot like FF15 or LOTR Shadows of War you play a character making a self-sacrificial move and I enjoyed it a great deal. The gameplay wasn't anything tremendous to write home about but it was more of the formula that Nioh had done so well and you can see some of the innovations they made while creating this game pop up in Wo Long. Stranger of Paradise is a bit of a niche game, but it's well done. Not a masterpiece by any stretch it is nonetheless a game worth playing for any fan of Soulsborne or the Final Fantasy series.
Can we all stop judging action games by their story telling? I mean the name of the genre already gives it away, otherwise they’d be called story games not action games. If you want a story read a book
i finished the game a few minutes ago. i am so grateful i stuck with it . don't sleep on this amazing, amazing game. the story is actually realty good. (i'll post this on all videos i can find)
I enjoyed the game a lot, you're absolutely right about the story being non-existent, but the ending for vanilla was still really strong and probably my favorite part of the game. It is true that the DLC can be sort of an issue as it was to supplement people who were still playing rather than new people to get into. It handles the part of big number go up primal part of my brain really well, making that "perfect" build you envision to make end game fights a joke is satisfying.
I am still in early game, but here's my experience. Jack still need to do most of the job, of course. But if you give some decent gears to your buddies they are still kinda useful. Like distracting bosses or stun a mob while you are busy killing another enemy.
This is still one of my favorite ff titles. Put close to 300 hours into and still going. I hope they make another game like this one, it's still entertaining.
Please stop hating this game is not bad is just that the story is really confusing and the location were not original they were just areas from other final fantasy games but the dlc save this game because you could fight and play as bahamut and fight the warrior of light and fight against gilgamesh and get special weapons and armors bless by our favorite summons and fight against the emperor and play as the warrior of light those dlc are what made this game special because this game is connected to dissidia so stop hating this game and start enjoying it by playing as the warrior of light and fight against famous bosses like the four fiends ultima weapon chaos bahamut gilgamesh warmech the emperor and let's not forget OMEGA and GARLAND
As a big fan of final fantasy 1, campy bullshit, and edgy 2000s games, Strangers of Paradise is easily one of my favorite games of all time. I can't say the story hooked me or made me *that* emotional but it was rule of cool all the way into the end with as much mellow drama as it wanted. It's no ff6 or ff16, but I didn't want it to be.
Damn. This videa made me waaaaaay more interesting in getting this game now. Its been on my wishlist on the epic games store but more as a placeholder if anything... Wasn't payijg it much mind. But the endgame seems quite alluring.
I havent played it yet but i get the impression that this is the fast and furious of the gaming industry and garland is the Dominick Toreto of the gaming industry and i am here for it
My first theory was that Team Ninja dumbed down this game to see how low they can go. Now I'm considering the idea that they just mock casuals. Hopefully they just concentrated all their energy to Rise of Ronin ^^
SE just needs to hand FF off to Team Ninja, because Jack is just the best FF protagonist to ever exist, and not just because he actually has a normal name.
I love this game, it's a souls like that fixes the first FF story by remaking it as some sort of a prequel/sequel, it's amazing and made me laugh too much along the way, also the gameplay is top class and the endgame is nuts
Just…for the record horrible take on the story. You’re right on one point, it’s unobtrusive. All the development happens during the missions based on what they’re saying to each other, as well as the fools missives and other lore tidbits we find. If anyone’s confused it’s bc they didn’t actually pay attention which is fine but come on now. Also, the story sucks, but it does still have an actual point to it. Review the parts you know, avoid the ones you don’t.
Loved the Rebirth take. This one...meh. The game was really clunky in terms of NPCs (lack there of). Story basically non existent. Battle system and difficulty (for an FF game) is an A+ though.
One reason I never watched this game much was that everything I saw as streamers tested it suggested to me it was a kooky retelling of the very first Final Fantasy. Chaos, Garland, the four main characters, the terms they used all felt like clear clues this story was some kind of homage. I can't be certain my memory is accurate anymore, but I'm pretty sure I stopped watching playthroughs around the time the hero appeared to be heading to the pirate town to get his ship, which was exactly how FF original got it's first mode of transport. My opinion on whether or not this was a good idea is probably irrelevant, but you mention that Stranger seems short in the story department. Having watched other more recent playthroughs of other FF games, it seems par for the course to have stuff happen off screen in a FF game. I've heard a lot of complaints about this practice, but it seems that a lot of time the reason this happens is because that part of the story is already covered like some kind of Easter egg in another FF product, like the movies, anime, expansions and so forth. You're expected to do your homework to know the whole story. Do you think there's any chance that Stranger's story was so sparse because the FF wierdos that made this game expected you to be recognizing and understanding references to original FF? I wouldn't put it past them at all, but I haven't played this, so I'd like your take.
@noble14 so if you've played both, would you say any important facts were left out in the prequel because you were expected to already be familiar with them? I remember playing 10-2 and being left with the distinct impression that you were expected to be familiar with 10 to get a lot of the references. I'm curious mostly about possible reasons why Stranger seems so light on the story, but if it's a prequel then that's no excuse for why Ian's example of the guy who hardly said anything would say stuff like "you know I like to speak my mind". Not that many original FF characters really said much. I think I gleaned more lore off the instruction books and hint guides than I did from the sparse in game dialogue.
@@mikeroe7943 Your playing the bad guys in Strangers of Paradise. There's not much personality of bad guys in 1980's NES games. However, in other Final Fantasy games and other RPGs, there is a lot of party banter in battle locations. The main characters in Strangers are not fleshed out and it kinda bores me. I like the banter and in depth characters of Tales of Arise, Berseria, Cold Steel, and .Hack// G.U.
I played other Nioh games (well not to any decent point of NG+ depth), so atleast in overdesign point I know what to expect. Though this comment is about slight bevilderment on my part. Why the number of people who got to significant endgame milestone on specific console release on nonblowout popular game seen as low? 2K people is rather good. Loads of games can only dream of such numbers of people who put in such hours.
Square is a shell of it's former self, only game imo worth the ssd space is ff7 remake,ff16 is nothing but spectacle with a boring combat system already neesh in another ip,with only 3 million copies sold to a player base with over 40 million consoles it's a flop, not a great game, so they flopped ff16 and this game you're playing its garbage, I mean idk htf you spent an hour playing the garbage let alone the 100+ you put into it.
Sorry, but you know jackshit about the plot and story. Plot and personalities might feel weird at first, but later they give us reasons behind it. I would rate the story alone 8/10 if not more and the ending is quite emotional if you understand the story and feel what Jack has been through. Just because this game didnt have a grounding success and fanbase followers, it's has been under appreciated by "the herds". Kinda what would have happened to Dark Soul 1 story.
After being disappointed by "FF XVI", I decided to give this game another shot. I think I was too hard on it the first time. It's actually pretty cool.
I just blasted through the story on Action difficulty and loved it. I didn´t try to find any way to create a meta build like I did in every Fromsoft game since Demons Souls or approached the Platinum challenge like I did with Elden Ring last time. I simply enjoyed the cheesy early 2000 style story and writing, loved the fast paced combat, some challenging boss encounters, Jack as the typical "always angry" action game hero in reminiscence of Kratos, Asura, Raiden, Kaine and so on, the many nods to the various FF games including rearrangements of classic themes and in the end I even cared for the story a bit. If I had to draw a comparison I would say this is higly entertainment, senseless B-movie action cinema or a good old visit at McDonalds. You consume, you have fun, you go on :)
Since you don't get it despite how thinly veiled the theme is... SoP is about Nojima's anger at his bosses (Square) controlling his story work. Disney was partly to blame, and only recently did the company's stock skyrocket when it returned control to its writers. So through Jack, Nojima shows that only someone having no memory whatsoever can be happy obediently dedicating themselves to orders. He's a parody. Nojima's moral lesson is that such obedience is short-lived: Jack resolves to become Chaos and overthrow his masters. He even calls them "boss" at one point. The ending song My Way by Sinatra again shows independence is Nojima's central theme. So don't worry about the fiends' "character development", because it's non-existent on purpose, so that Jack is the focus of your attention-deficit attention. The contrast between the gentler Final Fantasy series and SoP shows that Nojima wants to make FF totally metal. He created his own Doomguy, who does everything Doomguy does. His friends conspire against him and make evil grins as they reveal their intention to turn Jack into Chaos, which is a very funny plot twist and scene. His friends being willing to die for this is again Nojima's theme against conviction. And again in the conclusion, the friends are willing to be destroyed by the warriors of light, all because they stupidly committed to one result and won't think outside the box for other solutions. Nojima even uses a moogle to explain this to them, lol like they're children, forcing a plot change since the characters refuse to learn. And now Nojima's FF7 Rebirth won't be metal at all, because he's all talk. Doomguy isn't coming to save Aerith. Zack the "puppy" will, and it will be a Disney ending, because Nojima just loves their input on his work. 3/3/2020 - original FF7 Remake release date 3/20/2020 - Doom Eternal release date Spoiler: argent energy is mako. you're actually the first person I've seen review the game that actually went this far into the end game. Props.
they really didn't. near 0 comprehension of WHY things and characters are the way they are. which, if you had even high school lvl reading comprehension and paid any attention to the story, AND FF1, you'd piece the shit together.
@@Cumfortableliterally. All these people reviewing the game didn’t pay attention to it.
I adored every single piece of lore that tied in with what we had allready learned from the other games and I was glad and thankful for it; seeing as my first impression of this game was that it would NOT take those into consideration.
Here tho it looks like there was a lot of intentional camp going on -- which i appreciate, and if executed properly will convince some people it's legitimately just a bad game
Interesting take, better than the usual gamer declaration of it being "garbage" -- i got another game going on rn but someday, we'll be checking this out
Yeah I definitely recommend it if you go in with the right expectations!
"Recently I've defended Forspoken" 💀
😖😖😖🤣🤣🤣
Exactly this. And I say it as a FromSoft enjoyer. SOP>ER
100% its a shame this game is so slept on. I did one playthrough of ER and was done...and Im a huge soulsfan.
The story is a funny mess tbh, i enjoyed it and jack is an asshole and that made it perfect.
I dont think the writting is bad?, I feel like they had fun by not abiding be the tired old tropes of edgy (just shy) nice inside protagonist or nice protagonist of FF and instead go into “What if we made FF abridged and put a guy who doesnt care about all this and just wants to get it over with…I love it, is refreshing, im tired of seeing the same long exposition cutscene explaining stuff for 20 minutes when it can be summed up in 20 seconds
i got this game today. Hope i can finally kill chaos.
i believe in you
You are the chaos
Just found your vid today and I havnt been able to put the game down since i started last week. Feel bad for anyone who only ever played the basegame. The dual class system, the coop, its a seriously fun game.
Glad you're enjoying it!
Even after playing XVI I can surely say that this my favorite FF related thing to come out after Endwalker. I was not expecting this game to be as fun as it is. Jack instantly became one of my favorite characters in the franchise
My top 5 FF games is as follow myself in order.
1. FF14
2. FF16
3. SoP
4. FF7R
5. FF12
And it's not that the lower ones are bad I just never grew up playing FF titles and didnt really start playing them till after I started 14.
@@Honest_Mids_Masher I'll keep that in mind though I'm not even sure if the PSP version is the one available on PS5
@@pleasedontkillme1185 no that's the pixel remaster most likely which isn't that bad but it doesn't have the arcane Labrynth which is the extra content. Other than that it's fine.
exactly the game what I need, skip all the cutscene and cut ppl, like i did with both niho
I will tell my kids that this was final fantasy 7
Missing the beauty of the plot. Unfortunate.
Well the game is more about the job and loot systems, the story was just an excuse to make a soulslike FF game with an expansive endgame
Played FF1. A lot. This game takes a LOT of liberties to the point where I feel it’s probably better if you didn’t play FF1 😂
This feels more in-line with Dissidia’s weird-ass, with a much nicer end for Jack.
hey man bit late reaction. i didnt know this game exsisted at all. you had me at its like nioh. i am now playing the game. and i am having lots of fun already. thx so much for youtube to showing me this video or i would have never found this game.
Glad to hear it my dude!
It was touch and go for a moment but then it got me hook, line and sinker. Never regretted investing time into this game.
Just beat it today after playing Final Fantasy pixel remaster. I really enjoyed it.
I like this game’s combat more than Nioh because it has an actual parry system. The DLC is grind bullshit though. Pretty disappointed with that.
Do you know about the hidden mission with the Malboro that takes about two minutes to finish? Azure Memories: The Stymied. You can power level jobs and equipment in mere minutes with it.
Great review! When do you think new players shouls start considering making an optimized build ?
I didn't need to until I reached the 3rd DLC, but I'm sure you can start as soon as you hit the postgame
Probably the most comprehensive video about this game. New sub
Glad you liked it! Yeah it's a very uneven game that's combining a bunch of inspirations, but it's worth a play
I havent played this but man it looks so much fun gameplay wise
This is activating the nioh part of my brain. 500 hours in nioh 2 time for 500 hours in this
Final Fantasy 1 was a game made decades ago on technology that has less processing power than modern toasters. Not a masterpiece by any stretch it is nonetheless a game worth playing for any fan of Soulsborne or the Final Fantasy series.
best comment ive seen about the game.
I'm still waiting to play one final fantasy game where I don't dislike the story.
Can we all stop judging action games by their story telling? I mean the name of the genre already gives it away, otherwise they’d be called story games not action games. If you want a story read a book
The story totally blew me away. It's keeping me up tonight as I think about the entire implications.
i finished the game a few minutes ago. i am so grateful i stuck with it . don't sleep on this amazing, amazing game. the story is actually realty good. (i'll post this on all videos i can find)
So summary:
- Gameplay great, but not very accessible/welcoming to new players.
- Story bad, but funny at times.
Thank you for a good review. I wish you commented about npc assist in this game. Are they mandatory? Is game balanced for solo play?
I am still in early game, but here's my experience.
Jack still need to do most of the job, of course. But if you give some decent gears to your buddies they are still kinda useful. Like distracting bosses or stun a mob while you are busy killing another enemy.
This is still one of my favorite ff titles. Put close to 300 hours into and still going. I hope they make another game like this one, it's still entertaining.
He really said he wouldn't "shut the fuck up" lmao
This game is like how Metal Rising was for me. All edge and no fucks given.
so glad ianbits is back
glad to be back!

2 vids in one week, you are spoiling us
I'm bad at time management
I actually really loved this game after just now beating it. Very underrated game imo
does it still blurry game at launched?
i bought at first launch and refund it after 10 m cuz it so blurry it just like i play at 720p
8:05 I had my stuff stacked so well I was basically speed running fiends man
SE just needs to hand FF off to Team Ninja, because Jack is just the best FF protagonist to ever exist, and not just because he actually has a normal name.
This is what I pictured in my 10 year old brain when I played ff1 for the first time.
I love this game, it's a souls like that fixes the first FF story by remaking it as some sort of a prequel/sequel, it's amazing and made me laugh too much along the way, also the gameplay is top class and the endgame is nuts
I feel like some games just stack overflow edginess until it just becomes good
Just…for the record horrible take on the story.
Reviews the story but doesn't mention that it's bad due to the way they build the ending reveals, classic
Same like that history channel guy "ALIENS"
JACK BE LIKE "CHAOS"
Loved the Rebirth take. This one...meh. The game was really clunky in terms of NPCs (lack there of). Story basically non existent. Battle system and difficulty (for an FF game) is an A+ though.
Do you even know what clunky means?
Just ordered this for 10$ 😅 Hope i didnt waste my money
For 10 bucks it's a steal
Where’d u order it from?
Got it for ten bucks on GameStop sale. Can't wait to finally play now. Hoping it's a hidden gem. Seems metal
Bruh now its on the ps+ freebie list
The scenario writer also wrote FF7/FF8/FF10/Crisis Core. Let that sink in.
Thank you for this. I couldn’t figure out why I both liked and hated this game. Most bipolar purchase ever.
Good video. Subbed
Much appreciated!
Though this comment is about slight bevilderment on my part. Why the number of people who got to significant endgame milestone on specific console release on nonblowout popular game seen as low? 2K people is rather good. Loads of games can only dream of such numbers of people who put in such hours.
It's more just a metric on how few people really got to all the content available in the DLC.
Great review
It's actually pretty cool.

this game so bad its good
I just blasted through the story on Action difficulty and loved it. You consume, you have fun, you go on :)
..... bullshit ..... *plays music*
hilarious intro lmfao.
Good video.

I recently played it since IGN rated it a good game. I also played at least 4 FF game series and this one I must say is Bad.
This one might be better than 16😂😂
They're both great lol
That game came out? Lol
Looks like a huge investment for middling payoff.
this game is really awful. there is no journey to the places... you are there in the instant. no world around it. just nothing
1:21 HAHAHA
😂😂 😂😂 it reminded of dmc that I couldn’t play because of scenes and music like this!!!
@@tah36 🤣🤣🤣 its gold
No
Currently playing, let me just say, HORRIBLE storyline, doesn't give anything about final fantasy, it's giving souls game, or Devil may cry.... storyline doesn't flow at all. The start of the game was such a disappointment... literally still playing it just to say I played it 😖😭🙃
How does it not feel like FF lol? It's quite literally a prequel to the orig, each level is themed from one of the first 15 games, and the job system and sub-job mechanics are super similar to FFV?
Whats he talking about when he mentions online reaction to pre orders
I think this is a good video. Subbed.
This game isnt good its addicting there's a difference
This "reviewer" sounds like he's thrown his dummy out of the pram because he couldn't beat the game.
There's literally a massive section of the video dedicated to the post game my dude
