Ironically, I had been into some Ween stuff but I didn't check the credits and didn't even notice that the little creatures were Ween logos. Plus, Quebec was out of my scope of their work because it was "newer" at the time and I refused to listen to a lot of post-2000 stuff. It blew my mind when I realized it was them. That being said, the video is absolutely phenomenal and compliments the song to it's core. It's deep and somewhat silly at the same time, it's no wonder the band embraced it. If I'm not mistaken the original description on Newgrounds said something short and sweet like "A music video for a band I like."

Ween are weird musical geniuses. It's like they could write and perform hit level songs in multiple different genres at will, but they seem bored, restless and subversive of conventional rock band methods. This is like a cross between a great song by Stone Temple Pilots and King Missile.
I think that the country record they did shines a light on how their minds kinda work when they write music. Essentially, they only really had surface-level knowledge on what country music was, so all they kinda knew was that all the mainstream country music is made in Nashville with session musicians, and most of that is cheesy and very clean. So, they went down there, hired some session musicians, made them play stuff like Piss Up A Rope, and expecting them to be shocked. The musicians weren't shocked, to them it actually wasn't much different than the country music they played on (I mean, Johnny Cash sang about getting drunk, killing people, and doing drugs), the only thing that made it kind of unique was how juvenile the lyrics were, and how amateurish they sounded (not necessarily a bad thing). I like to think that they take that approach to every song they write. Take a well-known genre of music that they only really have surface-level knowledge of, apply their weird and naive spin on it, then record a somewhat sloppy take of it and call it a day. It's why they never really broke into the mainstream, and why fans love them to this day.
@@qty1315 it’s true, it’s why I find their Shinola album almost their most professional as it’s a bunch of songs that were either refused to be released because of the tone they had or they chose not to put them into albums. Someday, Boys Club, Monique The Freak, etc, are all so professionally done that they almost don’t sound like ween songs. If you listen to what Someday was originally suppose to sound like, you realize that Ween has grown so much with their music that they changed what these songs sound like entirely and made incredible versions because now it comes so naturally.
Most musical acts try to hone their art to the point of perfection and then present to you what they believe is the best they have to offer. With Ween, it's like they just put it all out there and the listener gets to witness the entire honing process -- good and bad -- and judge for themselves.
Its stuff like this why i love fandoms whether the creator knew or not this 3 minute video and a the ween song played a role in shaping my emotional outlook for the next 15 or so years.
finally i found it, one of the most memorable animated clips ever, like 13 years later i i finally get to see it again. and even cooler is the fact that it was fan made, incredible
This video means more to me than the creator will ever know. 1st watched it with my beloved son on the Ween Live in Chicago DVD when he was Jus five years old. Now 10 years later we enjoy it again together still. A father's day tradition. Thank you!!!
I’ve been a Ween fan since God Ween Satan. I did stop listening to them after the country album. I have just discovered this song and it is incredible!!! Now I’m going through their back catalog and getting caught up on some great music that I’ve missed out of for the past 20 years!!! So grateful that I rediscovered the boys!
Before you nix "12 Golden Country Hits" you should probably look up who they worked with on that Record. I swear, people see the words "Country Music" and totally close their minds.
Rivo Haavandi yeah no... The adult is crying because the kid is too trusting and he has no way to save him. They were consumed by the parasites in the end and used to create more of them.
you probably will not see this comment, but I would love to say, thank you. this video is literally perfection to me, I've been getting into Ween as of late and for some reason this video has moved me. just through the pure magic of it all it seems. thanks, thanks so much.

This is one of my favorite songs of all times, and the video is one of the best videos set to music I have ever seen. Well done! I'm so glad you shared your talent.
+chluaid Wow, I simply cannot think of a fitting compliment deserving enough for what I just watched man... Except: "You were the fuckin BOMB in Phantoms yo!" lol. I really dig this tune and your animation is perfect bro. That was some top level shit story wise. I mean perfect in every sense of that word. It is no wonder Ween fucking made it the official video. I believe the lyrics wasn't telling your story in its inception, but you MADE it so. Right? I'm no expert and I'm certainly not any sort of qualified to be broadly casting what I'm talking about lol. Whatever? Most "videos" I've seen go the other way round, I think they try to match the visuals to what the song, feel of the music or bluntly just exactly what the lyrics are about, but goddamn it man you truly took Ween's brilliantly esoteric sounds and words and made them tell YOUR story! I love it, you sir are a genius. And thank you for taking those days off of work man, mother fucking great goddamned decision!!! One more thing, Could I bother you with a few questions please? I know I've long overstayed my welcome in this unintentionally 4 paragraph long UA-cam chat box but I've been dying to know some things man. 1.Who in Weens outfit told you that your video is now going to be the Official Trans dermal Celebration Video and how did they contact you? What did that feel like!? lol 2. Did they pay you? I DO NOT want to know a number, just if they paid you or not. I hope so. They should have in my opinion. 3. Where can I see more of your content? Anything interesting your currently working on you'd share? 4. Would you consider doing another music video? Which one if so? and finally What's Next man? I got to say you are inspiring and awesome man, I hope to watch a movie or some capacity of yours in the future.
Thanks Janson! To answer your questions: 1. I got in touch with Ween's manager when I heard they were looking for ideas for the video. In fact I was too late and missed the opportunity because Ween were going on tour and shooting the "Live in Chicago" DVD, so they had already decided to use footage from their shows for the Transdermal video. I'd already had a few ideas based on the lyrics so I told the manager I'd go ahead anyway and see if Ween liked it when they returned from tour. 2. After Aaron (Gene Ween) saw it and told me it'd be the official video, they sent me an agreement to sign and yes, a payment (which was about double what I would have earned at my day job) 3. My website is bitey.com but I've also got most of my animation work here on my UA-cam channel. My latest project is my Brackenwood series funded by Patreon supporters. patreon.com/bitey :) 4. I have done one other music video; if you search for "Into the Woods chluaid" you should find it. There's another music video in the works that's about 2/3 finished, but not sure when it'll be done. I've been offered a bunch of music video jobs since but I'm only interested in doing them if I like the music and I get to write the story. Thanks again!
+chluaid I must have written and deleted this response at least 5 times in all by now. You took so much time to answer all of my questions and you did so succinctly and with such humility that I feel inadequate but that I have to match that with a fitting response to show how grateful I am. I can't possibly say enough, and I just deleted an 8 huge paragraphs long reply lol. That's not how I should do it. But I'll just do my best. You sir are a genius! I cannot believe how fucking good "bitey" is. (notice it's all lower case because it's not actually his name, just a description given to him" Very nice touch! I love it man, I'm hooked, and that world of yours' feel's so fleshed out and Tolkien-level real and mysterious. It pain's me that it isn't a series I can stream daily yet. It should be man, I want to know everything about bitey and his world. It's just so good, I don't see how it won't exist in a long form fashion one day. I assume too much, I mean only if you want that to be. sorry. Thank you so much for answering all of my questions top to bottom perfectly and completely! Although I feel guilty about a few of those. Mainly since I was already a fan of yours at any capacity and immediately subscribed, I should have went to your channel and answered some of those questions myself, but you were so cool and humble that you answered anyway without even the tiniest shred of ego. I was so hoping that you got to speak to Gene or Dean directly, to be validated and compensated like that with your art must have been great. You deserved it! And I don't notice a single negative quality dude. Your inspirational integrity with your art by only taking jobs you believe in and only if you're given the freedom to tell an original story is such a testament to truly how much of an artistic genius you really are and of the top grade quality you possess. This doesn't say all that I wanted to say, and it isn't showing a fraction of how much it means to me that you answered my questions, but I hope you at least know that you made my day man. And that you have a dedicated fan that really appreciates your work. So Thanks again bro. Your story writing is absolutely brilliant, the animations are perfection, and you honestly seem in general like just an all around good person. Can't wait to see more man. Hopefully everyone will get a chance to experience Brackenwood, bitey, and all it's rich cast of characters one day! I've already shown your animations to friends and they all dig it. Cheers! P.s. I fucking love the music of the bitey series. Sooo damn good. literally A+ in all categories. How could anyone deny it's Worth? Like produces and studio executives? years have passed since first seeing this and i can definitively say this is the best fan made music video ever. i can't ever hear the song without seeing this video in my mind. major kudos
I saw this music video at a very young age late at night on TV and I don't recall what channel or why. However as an adult, 17 or so years later I can safely say while the song is great, the music video still gives me the same feeling of dread and anxiety as it did when I was a child. It's a great video from an artistic standpoint but boy does it give me the willies. That being said, great job!
That uneasy feeling might be a sort of intuition relating to a darker subconscious interpretation of the story being told which actually fits into our timeline on some level. ...like an eerie sensation that might creep up your spine if someone happened to lay out accurate details of a terrible suffering that you had yet to endure as they described some random event by sheer coincidence. ...or perhaps not being able to understand why your skin suddenly began to crawl as you watched the specific circumstances surrounding your own passing years in advance on some screen showcasing something seemingly unrelated to you and your life at that moment in time in your conscious mind. ...a premonition? ...foreshadowing? Maybe it's not all that far-fetched considering our current state of affairs, or maybe I'm just a raving lunatic, lol.
This video or song NEVER aired on Television. This video was made by a fan of the band and they liked it so much that they made it the "Official Video" for the song. You must be thinking of a different video.

Watched this on MuchMusic USA (now Fuse) about 11 years ago and loved the song so much that I bought Quebec on CD weeks later. I'm just rediscovering the video now and to read that little blurb about its history and trajectory is just inspiring for someone who is dabbling with filmmaking and animation. Thank you so much, chluaid, for this piece of my youth and I hope that you're currently having success in whatever you're doing now.
I have been familiar with this video for quite some time and had no idea until just now that it was animated by a fan. It's so beautifully well crafted, both practically and especially conceptually, that I always assumed it was something the band themselves commissioned professionally. I'm so glad they made this the official video because it absolutely deserves to be; it is frankly, in my opinion, one of the greatest music videos ever made. Well done.
1:54 this is Dean Ween solo on Carlos Santana’s guitar. Santana had a GMA show and Ween heard his equipment was in town. He snuck in and used the guitar for this solo and put it back like he was never there. Took 10 mins to record.

I wish you could see them
Tectonic tribulation
Formed a crust of green beyond the reef
Waves fell in formation
Cause the plants to bend with spi-ked leaves
I'm growing with the land
Time has taken my hands and let me touch them
Hey, hey,
A billion miles to Mark A
Lay on the lawn, he's already home
When the morning ray hits his face
Transdermal celebration
Jets flew in formation
I could see them
Dropping the crustaceans
Leaving trails of flames in their wake
But where is the mutation
Who once told me it was safe, I can't find him
I wonder who Mark A is, my Middle name starts with A and my name's Mark. I love that
Ween are weird musical geniuses.
Sounds kind of like Interstate love song
now i have to find out what king missile sounds like
Most musical acts try to hone their art to the point of perfection and then present to you what they believe is the best they have to offer. With Ween, it's like they just put it all out there and the listener gets to witness the entire honing process -- good and bad -- and judge for themselves.
This is quite possibly the best video ever.
When the guy sees the kid and sheds a tear... the feels
Yep. But soon they will be apart of the planet in ways they never thought. It's beautiful
Yes, I feel for the guy watching his kid being murdered
@@plaidninja You do know that guy looks to be 13 or 14 years old? The kid's probably not his. *Maybe* it's his little cousin or nephew.
@@101Volts this is the takeaway, not the genocide?
Did anyone think maybe that's just some random kid
Its stuff like this why i love fandoms whether the creator knew or not this 3 minute video and a the ween song played a role in shaping my emotional outlook for the next 15 or so years.
such a great and beautiful visual for the song
im back
I don’t care what anybody says, best most most emotive guitar solo of all time Deaner please get well you monster
Genuinely might be my favourite music video of all time, insane work.
I keep coming back to this and always have my jaw drop from the visuals that have been put together with Flash.
My dad had this on his ps3 and I grew up watching this. I was very excited to find it on UA-cam
So glad I decided to listen to more than one Ween song! This song is a tearjerker and a rocker!
finally i found it, one of the most memorable animated clips ever, like 13 years later i i finally get to see it again. and even cooler is the fact that it was fan made, incredible
The country album is one of my favorites
Before you nix "12 Golden Country Hits"
you should probably look up who they worked with on that Record.
I swear, people see the words
"Country Music"
and totally close their minds.
@@skelter1153 they're real Richard Smokers, eh?
The child's so happy about the dancing aliens it made me wanna cry
Until he realizes that he can't move and he's being consumed by whatever is terraforming the planet for the alien conquerors.
Plaid Ninja They're little boognishes or something like that.
yes the child is untouched by the toxic beliefs of adults, and he lets love in while the adult watches and cries, wishing he was so opened too
Rivo Haavandi yeah no... The adult is crying because the kid is too trusting and he has no way to save him. They were consumed by the parasites in the end and used to create more of them.
They’re the boongish not aliens
you did a great job on this video very well deserved recognition
you probably will not see this comment, but I would love to say, thank you. this video is literally perfection to me, I've been getting into Ween as of late and for some reason this video has moved me. just through the pure magic of it all it seems. thanks, thanks so much.
Remembered this riff.. and the word transdermal - the song so impactful that it brought me back 9 years later. What an under rated gem of my millennial era. So much love to this band.
This is one of my favorite songs of all times, and the video is one of the best videos set to music I have ever seen. Well done! I'm so glad you shared your talent.
Never knew that the guitar solo was played on Carlos Santana's gear. Great story and a great solo.
+mondola agreed! That story is amazing.
I didn't know until I heard it from you. In the end, it sounds like it was worth it.
What did that feel like!? lol
2. Did they pay you? I DO NOT want to know a number, just if they paid you or not. I hope so. They should have in my opinion.
3. Where can I see more of your content? Anything interesting your currently working on you'd share?
4. Would you consider doing another music video? Which one if so? and finally
What's Next man?
I got to say you are inspiring and awesome man, I hope to watch a movie or some capacity of yours in the future.
Thanks Janson! To answer your questions:
2. After Aaron (Gene Ween) saw it and told me it'd be the official video, they sent me an agreement to sign and yes, a payment (which was about double what I would have earned at my day job)
3. My website is bitey.com but I've also got most of my animation work here on my UA-cam channel. My latest project is my Brackenwood series funded by Patreon supporters. patreon.com/bitey :)
I don't know lol whoever the people are that gets shit made. Those couldn't deny it either, and you better believe I'm hitting that donation support button for your work. lol Thanks again man. Sorry it's an immense reply and PLEASE don't feel obligated to respond back, You've done enough.
I watched it first about 7 years ago but this HD version is loads better so thanks. It is quite a sad video but a damn good sad video. Thanks from Nottingham, England.
This video gives me the feels every time. The song is chilling enough on its own, but this movie you've made to go with it... stirring. Beautiful work.
Always come back to this video to remind myself of what quality story telling really is. Thank you.
years have passed since first seeing this and i can definitively say this is the best fan made music video ever. i can't ever hear the song without seeing this video in my mind.
@@daveyboyd784 Maybe I’m just high af but I totally understood this.
This video or song NEVER aired on Television.
This video was made by a fan
of the band and they liked it so much that they made it the "Official Video"
for the song.
You must be thinking of a different video.
@@skelter1153 i know for a FACT I saw it on TV. The band made it "official" and it was given to some late night music Channel at the time. I vividly recall the entire video because it horrified me and how else would I have seen it? I'm telling you I saw it on TV. It literally haunted me for almost 2 decades, the video is 19 years old. I was 9 at the time. UA-cam didn't exist yet and we didn't even have a PC, how else would I have seen this in the middle of the night? You CANNOT convince me otherwise.
I saw this video on tv when I was pretty young and it blew me away. always wondered what it was and glad to have finally found it! tingles went up me spine when I clicked the link and realised this was the video from so long ago. thanks for making amazing beautiful art
Night Goat This was on TV?
Lucky me! I'm an Aussie, and Ween are probably my favourite band of all time! So I got to see them live in 1995, two nights in a row! And they blew the roof off of the Evelyn pub. So, on the second night, they opened with Dr Rock.....and that recording is on their live album: Painting the Town Brown! So cool, I Also got to meet Gene Ween, and he is the nicest guy! Anyway, Transdermal Celebration is awesome. My favourite DVD that Ween released is called Live In Chicago. Please....all you fellow fans, if you haven't seen it, get it immediately! If not, it's actually on UA-cam! Enjoy, and Merry Christmas to each and everyone of you!❤️❤️❤️🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I think it’s absolutely hilarious that ween became a household name in Australia instead of the states, because of course they did
This is without a doubt the best music video i have ever seen. I am blown away by how truly awesome the animation was in combination with the music. Incredible job

Over 18 years later and this is still great. Kudos to you for this masterpiece of a music video, love it.
the song is already perfect but this video just adds everything it needed. words can't even explain how much this video adds to the song, makes me tear up every single time. amazing job man
Watching this as a kid on the Live in Chicago DVD with my dad brings back so many memories thank you for making this
this video makes this song come ALIVE and it makes me so emotional.
I remember watching this as a kid way back when it was first uploaded; made me wary of trees for a while. Now it’s almost been another 10 years since this was uploaded here. Time sure does fly.
Ween is.... there are really no words in the human vocabulary to desribe them. Enigmatic...? Other worldly.....? Theyre more than that ❤
That's really cool that Ween took a fan project and made it official. Good jorb, mang. It's a sick video, they'd be fools not to embrace it.
I remember watching this maybe two years ago and I actually cried a little at the scene with the little kid. I still get chills watching this video. It’s so amazingly done and I can’t imagine anything else as the music video for this song. It fucking rocks.
I don't know why i love this video so much! Thank you for making it.
One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. I remember when this was originally on the Ween forum - great job and congrats!
simply one of the best video interpretations of a song out there
Animation that's beautifully executed exhibiting a powerful dialect between its simplicity in theme and complexity in detail. Obviously, a monumental song that has been visually and lovingly explained. I love it!
I think this is my favourite Ween song
Am I the only one who sheds a tear to this beautiful song?

I cry every time.
it's a true masterpiece.
the music, the video, the message.. just absolute beauty through and through, i cant even put into words
This is a fans video made perfectly for this song.❤️
When the solo starts I get the chills everytime.. beautiful song, great animation!
Cant tell you how many times I have rewatched this on the daily. Like if this was the way to go in my life time, i wouldnt mind. Bc the world actually needs this. Plus, i love the animation.
Its beautifully constructed and gets the message across.
ween gives me so much joy with existing, i feel an extreme godlike gesture of love listening to this song. same with the argus. they are brilliant storytellers, and this music video made me tear up. thank you.
Came here from Dev's new album :D awesome cover and this is an awesome song
To the person who made this video: you are a genius. This is absolutely the best music video I've seen.
This is amazing. The part when the character stares at the tree-woman rooted to the ground makes my heart hurt. But other than that this makes me so happy I could scream. And the song...damn, Ween! Genius.

This video is so good. I love it so much. A massive thanks to Ween and the artist who created the video. Big thanks. It might have been a while since this was created, but I hope that you are still doing this art thing, you're good at it.
I’m actually glad this song isn’t too popular for some reason.
The first time I heard this I thought I was in musical heaven.
Phish my man your welcome
Watched this on MuchMusic USA (now Fuse) about 11 years ago and loved the song so much that I bought Quebec on CD weeks later.
I'm just rediscovering the video now and to read that little blurb about its history and trajectory is just inspiring for someone who is dabbling with filmmaking and animation.
Thank you so much, chluaid, for this piece of my youth and I hope that you're currently having success in whatever you're doing now.
It's not often a song as great as this gets matched with a video just as great.
Top drawer, my friend.
This song is such a masterpiece, one of my favorites of all time
Boognish is so cute in this. Great video, man.
Well done.
This video crushes all manliness in me, this is the definition of my worst night terror.
One of the best music videos ever
Life, death, joy, sadness, terror, wonder, birth and rebirth. What more do you want? This is absolutely brilliant.
I hope a boognish makes me a tree.

WHAT.
You will combine with many others to form a tree and other life.
We are all cosmic dust and after we die we become dust again only to be reborn in a different form.
When we die, we are buried, and we rot in the ground. Once fully rotten, our bodies become one with the soil, and that soil can grow a tree.
1:54 this is Dean Ween solo on Carlos Santana’s guitar. Santana had a GMA show and Ween heard his equipment was in town. He snuck in and used the guitar for this solo and put it back like he was never there. Took 10 mins to record.
Thank you so much for this awesome video
Amazing work by Ween and the artist who animated this. One of my all time favorite music videos
This makes me cry every time I see this..... Really a great job!!!!!!!
