just a tip with choosing the regen mode and making it stay. go to the regen mode you like and holding the right paddle, it will turn to "auto+(regen level)" and it will start the car in that regen level

I have the 2022 ioniq 5 I love the vehicle. While I respect what Tesla has done for the industry I just don't like their cars at all. Maybe it's the 80s kid in me. Maybe its 8 bit experience. Maybe it's just because it's a cool ass car. I dunno but I love it.

Ya know I honestly can't give much of an expert opinion. I don't think I have much of an eye for the build quality. I will say my impression is it's very good. The trim details, fit, form and function seem really well thought out and high quality.

I think the missing elephant in the room for me is repair costs and ease of getting repairs done. Long term, someone is going to ding a fender. I have to admit that I’ve only read up on Tesla repair stories and prices. My personal bet is that Hyundai will be significantly less and 3rd parties will be able to order parts from Hyundai.

    • @acchaladka

Exactly. I'm getting rid of our Tesla for this or the EV6, partly because out of warranty costs look horrendous. I'd originally planned to keep our model 3 twenty years and replace the battery, until I heard that the battery replacement is $17k Canadian. Also the new Gen of EVs coming out look really worthwhile. At least in this way, something ELSE will screw me rather than Tesla repair costs.

Great review. Two differences I found between my Model Y, and now my Ioniq 5 Limited AWD. In my case, overnight charging at home using my Tesla Gen 4 charger charges the Ioniq to 80% or 100% more quickly than it did the Model Y. Secondly, the Ioniq 5’s range Guess O’ Meter has been a lot more accurate than the Model Y’s was (this was a 2020 LR). I have far less range anxiety with the Ioniq 5 than I did with the Model Y, because I trust it’s range a lot more.

Top trim Ioniq 5 AWD costs 62k CAD here in Canada. It gets a 5k rebate. Model 3 AWD costs 77k, no rebate. So 57k vs 77k. Hummmmmm. The Model Y AWD is 88k CAD. (my gosh that 3rd row is beyond stupid. It's like the rear seat of a 911. So 20 to 31k less for the Hyundai or Kia.

9 Month later, the base model Y is $60K now (AWD long range about 70K) But more important, Ioniq 5 is nowhere to be found. Dealerships are charging $10K extra for "slightly used" cars, which wouldn't qualify for the rebate. It's just frustrating. It's unhealthy for a market to be dominated by a single player, but I just can't see how these "traditional" car markers will be able to compete if they can't scale up their production. I still want a base Ioniq 5 for $51.6K, but I am not going to wait 2 years for it with the possibility of dealers adding more fees on top of it.

@@wgemini4422 I couldn’t agree more. What is noteworthy beyond what you’ve said is, Tesla sales hardly bumped up on the big price drop. Either people in general hate Elon or EV cars sales are softening a lot. From my perspective I don’t know why the Model Y is still 5k more than an EV6 AWD GT. Line 2 package.
I think anybody buying an EV above MRSP is an idiot. They are already over priced and we are moving into a recession. I used to be anything but Tesla, but if the OEMs are stuck on charging these crazy prices I say F them.
The worst of the lot is VW. Their software is really bad. They dropped their premium stereo, dropped their heat pump, dropped their surround cam, dropped their folding mirrors and increased their price by 5k CAD.

I have never seen handling test like they did here. Normally it is done at a track or mountain road not at a parking lot with course that kids would drive with their barbie car. I have seen figure 8 test at a parking lot but much bigger at higher speed. And level 2 charging test only lasted 1 hour and called it good? Hmm, I normally hear how long it takes to charge 80 or 100% because charging speed varies and it is a good way to get overall speed. Seems like a half fast tests to me.

    • @Seitenwerk
      @Seitenwerk Рік тому

Personal preference. The Ioniq has some major advantages tho: 800V platform, it charges at double the speed than the Tesla. 15 Minutes charging time is a huge difference for everyday life. V2l, So can can plug in any device you want or use it for your house in case of a blackout or camping etc etc. Adjustable regen (One paddle driving, auto regen, multiple regen steps and multiple auto regen steps), Apple Carplay and Android Auto, ventilated seats, heated seats on both rows, relax seats, closable sunroof, auto regen, backseat side ventilation, better build quality, better drive train and suspension, noticeable much quieter inside, detachable front motor in the AWD version, Augmented reality HUD, Driver info screen etc. Theres a lot more to list there. Tesla on the other hand has the full driving assist that is currently in beta and they probably have the best software and app feeling currently. Both are good but you have to know the list of differences to decide

My only complaint on my M3 Dual is the ride on rough pavement but I think loose handling would bother me more so I glad I purchased the Tesla. On decent roads the ride is perfect. A fast car like this requires air suspension or stiffer springs to handle the high speed maneuverability.
I'm big on music so not saying anything about navigation and music takes away from the review a great deal. In fact, it makes the review almost worthless because those items I mentioned can make or break a sale.
Things I find exceptionally poor on the Ionic 5:
*Screen view thru the steering wheel is poor design, nothing more.
    *Poor handing....no thanks.
*Nav and sound system missing in review.....wtf.
*Inefficient range and will probably cost quite a bit more to charge which again is missing data in the review.
IMO, it's a good first effort but certainly not cheap.
Frankly, I though the review was biased and incomplete and some data totally missing.
I thought it was a thumbs up until I wrote my remarks and changed to a thumbs down. Essentially for the lack of info on sound system, nav, user interface.

Where the Tesla clearly wins isn't in the car: it's in the Supercharger network. Of course, they have a head start there, and hopefully other DCFC providers will catch up over the next few years. I'm frankly tempted to forego my current Model 3 for an Ioniq 5 Limited, but… they are extremely hard to come by right now. We'll see in the future.

Probably a US only thing. Outside of the US the fast chargers are outpacing Tesla chargers by around 20 times. The whole advantage of Tesl charges faded away nearly completely in. the last 2-3 years.

@@SeitenwerkIn the EU is becoming more and more common the 250kW chargers. There is a lot of investing happening right now to expand the charging network. On top of that, Tesla is now open to many brands, so that is one of the advantages that has faded away.
Software? Yes, it’s good, but in the real world it is not something you are going to benefit from on your daily commute. I chose the ioniq5 over the Model Y because of its pragmatism. It is a no-nonsense car, fully equipped, that will make my life easier than the Tesla. Not having parking sensors, 360° camera, ventilated seats or the possibility to block the sun on the panoramic roof were good enough reasons to stay away from Tesla. It’s sad when people who review cars for a living do not know all of the features of the vehicle they are reviewing and don’t even mention them in their review. The windshield wiper could have been easily activated with voice commands. In fact, the Tesla has the best voice control system available today and these people said not one word about it. So to me this is a fake review. If you can’t explain and review all of features and functions of a vehicle and it’s your job to do just that you suck at your job period. You even failed to talk about How Tesla software has the ability to integrate with 3rd party apps some which allow you to issue commands using Siri on an Apple Watch. So No the Hyundai is no where near as good as a Tesla. It’s designed like a dinosaur. Nothing about the Hyundai is new or forward thinking. It has a sloppy suspension and handles like shit. Please do your job and make sure you know everything about the vehicles you review before trying to give an opinion which at this point is bias.
