If there was ever a tangible emotional abstraction of my soul, this would be it. The inspiration, vision, and bliss I've received from this pulseform has carried me through time and space so many times over the past few years, and feels so truly resonant within me that I wholeheartedly believe that it is. Thank you SotL.
i dont get why people seem to hate this. I primarily listen to Metal, high BPM dance, or trance, and classic hard rock. But when I study or I am just too wired...this stuff calms the hell out of me...no other music can do that...
@Wantthosedaysback I recall an interview once where they said that they considered it to be the highest compliment if people fell asleep while listening to them. "Snore-core" is pretty appropriate,
When you get right down to it these guys owe everything to the Harold Budd and Brian Eno collaborations . . .masterpieces ambient albums like The Pearl are strongly reflected in Stars of Lid music
There are SO MANY interesting sound artists out there. SOL do the smeary guitar drone with some chamber music leanings. Along these lines, I'm liking Windy & Carl, some early Flying Saucer Attack, Rhys Chatham's astounding 'Crimson Grail'. But guitars aren't the only way to stretch and bend sound. Check Thomas Koner, Tim Hecker, DJ Olive, Phillip Jeck, Belong (my fave!), Andrew Chalk, Jasper TX, Keith Berry...way too many to list, but also so many nooks and crannies to explore all at once.
Yea I was surprised when I found SotL. It's not really drone like Robert Rich Drones/ Trances. This just kind of quietly dances in and out of rays of light, sparkling gold, then dimming to gray, rising, then fading, always whispering... brilliant distant stars.
@SunnyBunnyFeeling Not as droney (usually), but Hammock makes a very nice ambient Americana that goes well with SotL, and I think there's some influence going on there, whether two- or one-way.
i use the term "snore-core" in the best possible way. Not meant to say SotL are in Anyway 'boring' . This track always enhances my calm and introspection . It stimulates the deep mental register like delta or theta waves . hope that gains me some redemption =) . o well
@TheRealBloodBuster @SunnyBunnyFeeling in no particular sequence and with some minor variations in the kind of ambient music chihei hatakeyama, erik Wollo, boards of canada, epic45, helios The grandmaster Brian Eno, harold budd
Haha - ten out of ten. This genre of music is commonly referred to as ambient drone. However, there is a difference between DRONE and ambient drone. One is more intelligent than the other...

Been a fan of ambient for years....these guys got it down!!!!!
What's great is that their style remains consistent across all their albums. It's all ultra-ambient.

Nobody hate this, there are just some people that doesn't know how appreciate.
You probably won't respond because it's from 12, years ago.
Can't describe in words, but this is just beautiful music, very zen-ish)))
This is just beautiful. That's all that needs to be said.

Same here - SOTL are in a class of their own. Their ambience is unique. Probably some of the most relaxing music I have ever heard.
The best ambient album of all times, in my opinion.

sinds ik sotl ontdekt heb , is er echt een nieuwe wereld voor me open gegaan.....het is gewoon anders
@davidasleep01 There are no "original" ideas or songs because it all comes from the same place. Creativity is not owned.
If music had a Mark Rothko equivalent, this would be it.
I sleep to this like all the time
I've always loved stone in focus by aphex twin, i am so glad i found this...

DRONE
snore-core -_- Zzz,,..
It's IMHO, of course. But don't you think this music is kind of aural contemplation?
SOTL is not good for introspection, it's good for "listening music and nothing else"
strong, yet so soft... a bit like quality toilet paper
