I’ve had the goal of full lotus set for years. When i first started stretching out my hips i could not sit comfortably in butterfly position at all. Then i slowly worked my way to making that comfortable. Then progressed to half lotus. Today I tried full lotus for the first time and actually did it !!!
Okay I tried this and damn it HURTS! I know I'm not stretchy, but I can't even get my heels andywhere near to my hip bones. Still, I can pull off a half-hearted version of this and THAT still hurts like hell for me! I can barely maintain the position for 60 seconds, and when I exit it my legs just explode like springs. I'm gonna keep practicing maybe, and eventually I might become stretchier.
Not perfect...your one of the knees is not touching the ground. This won't be comfortable for long time if you are planning to meditate in this posture.
My question is following: My mother is experiencing back pain. 4 years ago she had to undergo hisrectomy. Is the pain because of the surgery? Can yoga help her overcome the pain?
1. Practice, let those ligaments extend , it needs time 2. May be you thighs are too thick, due to which your ankles may feel pain when you try to sit in padmasana . So, reduce that thickness.
Hell nah. Im skipping this part of the posture workout. Almost broke my fucking waist trying to do this and my knees were nowhere close to the ground at all

I was told to keep the hand with Gyanmudra on the lap and not on the knee? Which is correct?
Both are correct you would place your hand on your lap for more of a traditional Buddhist meditation
