Now this is where I am going to have a problem but I knew the day would come when someone would try to recapture the iconic brilliance of that role on Broadway- that of Streisand’s Fanny Brice ! - Bette Midler also tried to recapture Dolly Levy on Broadway but in my mind once again comparisons were drawn and sadly Bette as much as I love you, you failed miserably against Babs, even though you suited the character more in age. Does everyone agree with me? - there are certain roles that actors play that are so good that they can never be recaptured and Fanny Brice is a role that nobody will be able to play quite as brilliantly as was captured by Streisand in this performance- it’s like remaking per say Caberet because in my mind there is also one Sally Bowles that being Minnelli and even stretching it as far back as the Sound of Music and Maria von Trapp, even though Julie Andrews has personally never been one of my favourite artists- I find her too raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens sweet and syrupy for my taste - in other words she ain’t sassy enough but then nuns are not supposed to be sassy I guess. And I think the word sassy says it all - this is exactly why I feel that Feinstein just does not have that same strength, range and belting ability that is necessary to give some of those big numbers like Don’t Rain on my parade, the Music that makes me dance, People that special sass ! Nor can anyone but anyone say it quite like the maestro “hello gorgeous” - Sorry Beanie
As much as I don’t want to put her down before she has even attempted the role - yip I have to ! - how is her voice ever but ever going to be a Streisand - you cannot make a pearl necklace out of a sows ear and sadly Feinstein just does not have that Streisand power n her voice to pull off those songs - she can try but I don’t think that all the singing lessons in the world will ever be able to match the required range - I can’t exactly see the critics saying on opening night. “The next Barbra Streisand makes Broadway history “ no chance ! Gaga would have been a far better choice but then again she isn’t getting any younger either so that would rule her out too !

She seems like a nice person but is miscast as Fanny. The Funny Girl score needs someone who can belt it out, hit every note. “Don’t Rain on My Parade” deserves a much better singer.
I saw you this past week 4/27 in funny girl on Broadway. You were awful and owe me $350 for the tickets. I want to take that money and rebuy tickets to see your understudy Julie Benko in the role because she got rave reviews! Your performance was high School level at best.
Yes, I came here to see what Beanie sounds like singing a full song instead of the brief clips from Funny Girl that I’ve heard. I’m sure she’s a lovely person but based on this, I really do not like her voice. As others have noted, very thin and nasally. No, a person playing Fanny does not need to sound like Barbra. But they do need to have a solid, powerful voice. Because regardless of whether or not the actual Fanny Brice had a great voice, this show was written for someone who does. In fact, it was written very specifically for Barbra Streisand and what her voice could do. As such, comparisons are unavoidable. Based on this clip, Beanie’s voice does not have the characteristics of strength, nuance, subtlety, grounded conviction and power that I think this role demands. Worse than that, for me, anyway, I find her voice very grating and unpleasant, which would get in the way of me being able to enjoy her in the role. Hard to enjoy a musical when every time the main character walks out on stage you’re thinking, oh, please don’t sing!
This is also a really low song for her. She is obviously a soprano and she’s singing a tenor song in the original key. I don’t think she’s great by any means but this isn’t a great representation of the range shes uses as Fanny.

After all Now that we've met one another It's clear we deserve each other You're perfect You're perfect, so we're perfect together Born to be forever Dancing through life Oh, Elphaba, isn't it wonderful? Finally, for this one night I'm about to have a fun night With this Munchkin boy Galinda found for me And I only wish there were Something I could do for her to repay her Elphaba, see? We deserve each other And Galinda helped it come true We deserve each other, me and Boq Please Elphaba, try to understand I do Galinda, listen Nessa and I were talking about you just now And I was just talking about you! Uh, Nessa I've got something to confess, a Reason why, well Why I asked you here tonight Now I know it isn't fair Oh, Boq, I know why You do? It's because I'm in this chair And you felt sorry for me Well, isn't that right? No! No! It's because, because Because you are so beautiful! Oh, Boq, I think you're wonderful! And we deserve each other Don't you see, this is our chance? We deserve each other Don't we, Boq? You know what? Let's dance What? Let's dance! This is who’s playing Fanny Brice…………? Don’t mind the mix but Fanny needs a strong voice and I’m not sure I’ve been convinced by anything I’ve seen of her voice
Seeing this video now after the Funny Girl fiasco has happened, I will never understand, how she herself or anyone else who was responsible for her casting, could ever have seen a Fanny Brice in her. I read rumours, that her father financed the show, that would be an explanation! This poor girl obviously completely lacks self criticism. If you want to play the role of Fanny Brice in a musical on broadway, it is essential that you have the figure and the voice for that. Beanie has nothing of that, she only has a little voice and her dancing is clumpsy! Poor Ramin Karimloo! So in the show it really is embarrassing hearing her say: "Hello Georgeous!"! Fanny Brice will turn in her grave!
Her stage persona is warm and accessible. Her singing voice is sweet and true. Her movements are graceful, and relaxed-well controlled and beautiful. I really like Beanie Feldstein. Errol Flynn played "Robin Hood" and it became an iconic media fact. If Ms.Feldstein had been directed to accentuate her strengths instead of mimicking another performer's style, the production would have been better. Perhaps with media, one cannot modify a performance until long after the original has been retired to the back shelf. I think Beanie can do anything with a great deal of charm and style that is all her own. Too bad she was held to a wrong standard insead of appreciated for her artistic skills.
Gross. Who was the genius who thought it would be a good idea to film her performing in a skin-tight wife-beater? Her voice is extremely nasal and grew more and more irritating as this song proceeded. Plus, the lip-syncing or sound-merging is off, which is kind of hilarious. That this person is Fanny Brice now is a travesty. I'm eager to see how quickly the show is re-cast or shuts down. And if it does, it will BF and the producers' fault completely. She should never have been considered for this role.
She’s physically miscast. Both Fanny Brice and Barbra Streisand are slender and they loved fashion. Beanie can look lovely but she’ll never be a fashion icon or maybe she will and this day and age? But that voice has no power, no emotional resonance And in her life she has been very privileged. Barbra was not privileged neither was Fanny. They had to make funny girl about Barbra Streisand’s talent which is still unbelievable. So terribly miscast. I do hope she does well but I’m afraid the critics are going to savage her performance.
I would not judge her ability to sing Funny Girl songs based on this. She does a terrific job with this: ua-cam.com/video/ehgBmhipN2k/v-deo.html and she is NOT auditioning for the Barbra Streisand story. Fanny Brice herself had less vocal strength and range than this girl has. In the end, we do not go to the Theatre to hear vocal gymnastics. We go to be moved by a story. Yes, Streisand had the vocal gymnastics AND the storytelling "gene" but folks that comes along rarely, and that should not kill a show from being produced beyond her turn at the role.
That doesn't do anything to prove she can pull off Funny Girl. In fact, it's just more proof that she isn't well-suited to it vocally. Her voice is far too light and absurdly nasal. Funny Girl requires a powerhouse. Beanie may be delightful, but a powerhouse, she is not.
@@DougMotel I didn't say they Fanny Brice was a powerhouse, I said that Funny Girl requires one. The music was written for a big belter, which Beanie clearly isn't. One simply can't sing People, Greatest Star, or Don't Rain on my Parade softly. It's even in the casting notes: "CHARACTER Fanny Brice SHOW Funny Girl GENDER Female AGE RANGE Young Adult, Adult ROLE SIZE Lead DANCING Mover VOICE Mezzo-Soprano HIGH NOTE F5 LOW NOTE F3 VOCAL TECHNIQUE Belting" Beyond that, her tone is awful. Horrendously nasal. She doesn't have it.
@@carr0760 An actor is an interpretive artist. Ultimately what is needed is a performance that takes us on a journey that has been mapped out by the show's creators. She MAY have other qualities that are more important than belting. We will have to see. I guess I just feel (in general) that criticizing a casting choice before seeing the performance in the context of a particular production is impossible. I also think that no one will ever be able to check off ALL of the boxes like Streisand did so it is time to stop waiting for that.
@@DougMotel yes, an ACTOR is an interpretive artist. A musical requires both acting and singing, which means both artistic interpretation AND a base level of vocal ability. Roles are written with specific casting requirements for a reason. I'm not just an uninformed fan. I am a voice teacher, a musical theatre specialist, a musical theatre coach, and a music director with 20 years of experience. It is literally my job to teach people how to choose material that suits their voice, and to cast the right people in the right roles. I do not care how perfect and actor might be for a character if they don't have the voice to pull off the songs. It won't work. The music is a massive component of a musical. Fail to pull off the songs and you've failed to pull off the part/show. I also never said anything about Streisand at any point. I never compared them. I don't ever expect anyone to be able to do what Barbra did because there's only one Barbra. That doesn't change the basic casting requirements of the role. The role isn't described as being a belter because of Barbra...that predated her. Barbra was given the role because she fit the casting requirements, among which is being a belter. You said it..."what is needed is a performance that takes us on the journey mapped out by the creators." Part of that journey is songs written for a belter.
Rather perfect for this most coveted, cherished and long guarded role of Fanny Brice. Tremendous talent, confidence….and vulnerability. She will bring this character back to life…finally.
I’m a huge fan of Beanie. I saw her in Funny Girl on June 3rd (which was my birthday) and i kept my expectations very low as that’s what i to do whenever i see or do something new. And I thought she was great! Her acting is divine, her comedic timing is perfect, and I personally thought her singing was great as well. She has such a cute and bubbly energy to her and it was so fun to see her sing and dance live. The whole cast is just dripping in talent. I had a great time, my mama and I had some good laughs. I even met her at the stage door after the show. I managed to hold it together for about 30 seconds and then i lost it and just started crying. She was the absolute sweetest and got so excited when my mom told her it was my birthday. Will never forget that day, and I am so grateful.
Not fair to compare anyone to Barbra! We have one, why would we want another. Have you ever listened to Fanny Brice? Please learn to accept something different. Everyone deserves a chance to be unique and amazing.

That was terrible and giving her a leading role on Broadway is a total insult to Broadway.
Decent voice. Exceptionally nasal. The whole time it sounded like she was singing through her nose. I couldn't listen to this for too long. 👃
Christina is so iconic.
You mean Kristin??
Do you mean Kristin?
How is this voice supposed to sing Don’t rain on my Parade?
How can a person be rude?
Ever heard of versatility?
Exactly! Can you imagine "who are you now.."....or People""""""""""*,], *
O
@@gregstuart9762 Nobody is ever going to be Barbra. Might as well do something totally different.
I think this is filmed in the Pacific Palisades. I recognize those streets!
I had to see Queen Kristen twice in this video, because I squealed like a school girl to see & hear her do a duet with you. The second time I saw Queen Kristen, I bowed to her on my phone. 👸🏻 ❤️ As for you, you’re so adorable, & you did a great job doing a female version of this song. Lol to your dog 🐶 as Boq! Even though it’s been more than 3 decades since I did tap dancing, you made me, your tap dancing sister, proud! 🤩👍👍
Is that Danny DeVito’s kid?
THIS is the new Fanny Brice?
Umm not necessarily bad, but more acceptable at local theater levels
Did Jonah help her work on this?
She seems like a nice person but is miscast as Fanny. The Funny Girl score needs someone who can belt it out, hit every note. “Don’t Rain on My Parade” deserves a much better singer.
I saw you this past week 4/27 in funny girl on Broadway. You were awful and owe me $350 for the tickets. I want to take that money and rebuy tickets to see your understudy Julie Benko in the role because she got rave reviews! Your performance was high School level at best.
Funny Girl? Seriously? Um...
That nasal sound/technique is assaulting to my ears. Ick.
She'd be great..singing in a Disney movie....
I dont see it.
The trouble with schools is
They always try to teach the wrong lesson
Believe me, I've been kicked out of enough of them to know
They want you to become less callow, less shallow
But I say, why invite stress in?
Stop studying strife
And learn to live "the unexamined life"
Dancing through life
Skimming the surface
Gliding where turf is smooth
Life's more painless
For the brainless
Why think too hard?
When it's so soothing
Dancing through life
No need to tough it
When you can slough it off as I do
Nothing matters
But knowing nothing matters
It's just life
So keep dancing through
Dancing through life
Swaying and sweeping
And always keeping cool
Life is fraught-less
When you're thoughtless
Those who don't try
Never look foolish
Dancing through life
Mindless and careless
Make sure you're where less trouble is rife
Woes are fleeting
Blows are glancing
When you're dancing
Through life
So, what's the most swankified place in town?
That would be the Ozdust Ballroom
Sounds perfect!
Let's go down to the Ozdust Ballroom
We'll meet there later tonight
We can dance 'til it's light
Find the prettiest girl
Give her a whirl
Right on down to the Ozdust Ballroom
Come on, follow me
You'll be happy to be there
Dancing through life down at the Ozdust
If only because dust is what we come to
Nothing matters but knowing nothing matters
It's just life
So keep dancing through
Miss Galinda, I hope you'll save at least one dance for me
I'll be right there, waiting all night
Oh, that's so kind
But you know what would be even kinder?
See that tragically beautiful girl
The one in the chair
It seems so unfair
We should go on a spree
And not she, gee
I know someone would be my hero
If that someone were to go invite her
Well, maybe I could invite her?
Oh, Bick, really?
You would do that for me?
I would do anything for you, Miss Galinda
So
So I'll be picking you up around eight?
After all
Now that we've met one another
It's clear we deserve each other
You're perfect
You're perfect, so we're perfect together
Born to be forever
Dancing through life
Oh, Elphaba, isn't it wonderful?
Finally, for this one night
I'm about to have a fun night
With this Munchkin boy Galinda found for me
And I only wish there were
Something I could do for her to repay her
Elphaba, see?
We deserve each other
And Galinda helped it come true
We deserve each other, me and Boq
Please Elphaba, try to understand
I do
Galinda, listen Nessa and I were talking about you just now
And I was just talking about you!
I thought you might want to wear this hat to the party tonight!
It's really, uh, sharp, don't you think?
You know, black is this year's pink
You deserve each other, this hat and you
You're both so smart
You deserve each other so here
Out of the goodness of my heart
Listen, Nessa?
Yes?
Uh, Nessa
I've got something to confess, a
Reason why, well
Why I asked you here tonight
Now I know it isn't fair
Oh, Boq, I know why
You do?
It's because I'm in this chair
And you felt sorry for me
Well, isn't that right?
No! No! It's because, because
Because you are so beautiful!
Oh, Boq, I think you're wonderful!
And we deserve each other
Don't you see, this is our chance?
We deserve each other
Don't we, Boq?
You know what?
Let's dance
What?
Let's dance! (dancing through lifed down at the Ozdust)
(If only because dust is what we come to!)
(And the strange thing, your life could end up changing)
(While you're dancing)
(Through!)
I AM IN LOVE WITH BEANIE. I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING TO BE HERE.
This is who’s playing Fanny Brice…………? Don’t mind the mix but Fanny needs a strong voice and I’m not sure I’ve been convinced by anything I’ve seen of her voice
She’s literally the coolest
She sounds like a Disney Princess.
Her teeth freak me out. And I’m sorry but her voice is so so grating.
I think she had them fixed by the time she opened “Funny Girl.”
She should never have been considered for this role.
i dont know that dugong can dance and sing NASALLY
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
as I was watching this, I realized that she sounds like Colleen Ballinger
SO NASALLY
This is my religion
❤
Amazing !! Go girl ! Such a fan !
I do hope she does well but I’m afraid the critics are going to savage her performance.
this is so cute omg
What the fuck was that? Lol
Joy and delight, thanks!

💖💖
She's really not that good. And what is she wearing 😜
Very nasally
She has a lovely voice.
@@carr0760 I don't think you have listened to Fanny Brice if you think playing her requires a voice that is a powerhouse.
@@DougMotel I didn't say they Fanny Brice was a powerhouse, I said that Funny Girl requires one. The music was written for a big belter, which Beanie clearly isn't. One simply can't sing People, Greatest Star, or Don't Rain on my Parade softly.
It's even in the casting notes:
"CHARACTER

Beyond that, her tone is awful.
Love her voice and confidence!
Love it!!
NonFormulaic
Rather perfect for this most coveted, cherished and long guarded role of Fanny Brice. Tremendous talent, confidence….and vulnerability. She will bring this character back to life…finally.
I feel like I need to hear another song. This one didn’t give me want I’m expecting in funny girl.
Y’all this is so bad
She is so wonderful
i’m going to see her as fanny i bought my tickets. i’m really hoping she does well. it’s my favorite favorite favorite musical
So talented
Nope. This singing is not good.
@olivia buller 😐🙄
She's so cute
God, I love this. Her voice isn’t that typical broadway belt and I’m so, so here for it; the dancing is precious. Genderqueer Fiyero casting pls.
Cringe.
Fix your broken sidewalk.
Not fair to compare anyone to Barbra! We have one, why would we want another. Have you ever listened to Fanny Brice? Please learn to accept something different. Everyone deserves a chance to be unique and amazing.
Just find out she was going to be in Funny Girl.. had no idea she can sing.. and really well!!
Not really well. She's a mediocre singer, at best.
No power, absurdly nasal. Community theatre, but not Broadway.
She is so refraishing!
Yes, Go Beannie!!! You can do anything ❤️
Yes. I heard she was starring in Funny Girl and came here to hear if she could sing! Very impressed! :)
