This was written a very long time after Gohan complained about cells being boring, so I doubt that was intentional since, as @Exdeth pointed out, it's a callback to near the end of Goku vs Freeza. That's a good catch, though, and it definitely works out nicely! I doubt that they even noticed this themselves, so kudos to you

I love how Cell is a completely parodied villain that is mostly funny and completely lovable, but when he returned with that 'P is for Priceless." I actually felt scared lol
It was genuinely TERRIFYING.
Easily the best villain in the show and this parody only hammers that home.

Ok so,
This expression tells you that the consequences of an action don't make up for the action itself.
So, saving 100 people because you killed 10 doesn't justify the death of those 10 people.
"Mean" is a word for a rude person if used as a noun, but it's used to tell you what a word is supposed to tell you, or in other words, what a specific word "means".
Since he used the word "mean", Goku, beeing an idiot, thought Piccolo meant he was rude, so he called him rude back.
That's the joke, Goku is stupid.

@@alexmyladoor4858you gotta take into consideration that Piccolo got stronger. He was one of the few fighters keeping up with a cell jr, which means he improved a LOT since his loss to imperfect Cell, seeing as each Junior is equal to their dad in strength.

14:43 I just cant get over MasakoX's performance here. Say what you want about his voice for Gohan, but right here, instead of a plea for his father to come back, they chose instead to simply have Gohan cry out. No words, no fluff...just raw emotion. Really hits every time.

13:30 this just proves to me that Goku isn't a bad father, just an irresponsible one. Sure, he doesn't know about studying or piano recitals or Gohan getting into college. He just wanted to connect with Gohan by doing the things that he really enjoys: eating, training, fighting. And when he finally did have 1 on 1 time with him in the chamber, he says it was the best year of his life. He really does love Gohan.

Chi-Chi should be called an irresponsible mother for never using the Dragon Balls to help Goku’s brain(wouldn’t be funny, so that’s an easy point to take back), but she forces her son as soon as he can walk and talk into super advanced learning, doesn’t allow her son and husband to bond because what her husband likes is something she hates, so she is a major reason Gohan is a pacifist, and a reason Cell was able to kill Goku by exploding. Next point, she never goes with him EVEN THOUGH SHE’S LITERALLY ALMOST AS STRONG AS KRILLIN, and berates him when he does go to whatever it is he needs to do. Chi-Chi is a major reason Gohan is a pacifist and was useless until the Cell saga, and is a reason Goku and Gohan don’t have a good relationship, even if she isn’t the main cause.
Also, Goku was alive and a constant presence in Gohan’s life UNTIL HE DIED FOR HIM, then trained to become stronger when Vegeta and Nappa were coming to Earth. Call me crazy, but it seems Chi-Chi is actually to blame for a lot of bullshit

Wow, that's probably the best apology Goku could've given (Too bad Toriyama or Toei didn't write it). It sounds like something he'd really say.
It doesn't sound out of character. Goku may not be the best father, but there can be no doubt he loves his family and would gladly die for them.
If he saw no other way to protect his loved ones, he'd sacrifice himself in a heartbeat. If that doesn't count for something, I don't know what does.

That bit. That line. The delivery, The musical timing as Gohans arm goes through the cell JR. The everything. Holy shit ima say it.
Literally the best moment in any fiction ever. Its soo chilling and soo perfect.
I love how when SSJ2 Gohan comes out... it isn't Gohan, nor an enraged saiyan hybrid, but this aggressive, merciless *thing* that's been released.
I love how effortlessly Gohan shuts down Goku when he tries to tell him to end the fight. Pointing out every occasion Goku did the exact opposite.
To be fair, the first one he calls on Goku, the fight *was already* over, he just asked Krilin to let Geets go, and the second time, he was royally pissed and dominating Freezer in every way he could, and then some, both in DBZA and in the original series, and both of them were alone in that planet, so the only one who was risking his life was him. And prior to the wish, he specifically asked Gohan to get the fuck out of the planet so they have the dragon balls back.
Gohan was risking Earth by prolonging a fight that he should have ended,
The thing Gohan COULD have called on Goku was letting Geets get his way of not destroying the androids before they were activated, when Goku was, by far, the strongest being on Earth. That one *is* Goku's B.
It's especially satisfying given that no one addresses Goku's hypocrisy in the original.
Here Gohan just slaps him in the face with his own blunders.
@@thibautisserant As I said, that's the thing, with the exception of him allowing Vegeta *AND* wanting to fight the androids instead of destroying them before they were ready as Bulma said, everything Gohan calls Goku on in this scene isn't exactly true.
Vegeta was already defeated, Goku wasn't prolonging the fight, with Frieza, he and Goku were alone in Namek and Goku was dominating him completely, and in the original Gohan thought Goku and Cell weren't fighting for real (Goku was) because he, prior to becoming a SSJ2 was already beyond that level of combat (and he was sure his father was still stronger than him). Goku's mistake was thinking Gohan enjoyed fighting and would want for Cell to be at his best, but Gohan KNEW what Goku was doing, he already says so prior to Piccolo's rant at Goku.
And Goku's reaction once he is told that no, Gohan doesn't enjoy that, is to ask for a Senzu and go to fight Cell.
I love DBZA, but they are one of the biggest responsible groups for the whole "Goku is the *worst* father", when he is actually ok. Let's remember that Gohan himself told Goku, in the HBTC, that he was being too soft on him, and that the grain that broke the camel's back when Goku became a SSJ was Frieza threatening to kill Gohan *after* killing Krillin. Even in Buu's saga he was thinking about Earth and his family when instead of killing Buu, he gave Goten and Trunks the tools to become even stronger than him.
@@lenlimbo to add on, pretty sure Goku acknowledges his mistake in dragging out his fight with Freeza, but his heart was too clouded by anger to think rationally. Which is part of why he trained Full Power SSJ with Gohan, to eliminate that. SSJ2 just brought it out stronger than Goku expected.
@@thomasschmelzer7676 That too, but even then, he was only risking his life in that prolongation. His "mistake" there, at least in my opinion, was giving Frieza so many chances and then not making sure he killed Frieza for real, and at that point it was Goku's distaste for killing.
Turning the "Bye, son" running joke into something absolutely gut punching gets me pretty good
Following it up with the "Hey King Kai, what should I do with Cell?" Is just *chefs kiss* as well.

@@pauldallas4826I know that this is a very late response, but the song playing during Gohan's speech is from Resurrection F, called Freeza's Terrible Power. They've used it a couple of times before, but this is the only time they use most of the track.
And it's fucking heartbreaking. His resignation to the unavoidable endpoint of growing up in such an environment his whole life. You hear the sum of all that pain in that Kamehameha Wave.

Not really Team Three Star but the group as a whole. He is no longer the old Vegeta. And lately Vegeta has gone along with a lot of silly things. He is slowly becoming domesticated to the Z Gang if you were to call it that. Well that's my take on it anyhow. TFS may end up coining the term Super Duper Saiyan but it's only really possible because Vegeta no longer really cares about these things. During a more calm moment Vegeta may disagree to call it that! But during this moment his family and friends lives are at risk. It's a very trivial thing and not on Vegeta mind.
But this could just all be the way I look at it. lol But I feel like if Vegeta only recently joined the Z fighters he would have argued about that name right away.

I wish canon Goku had said this. It's not just an apology to Gohan for making him do this but also for the times he couldn't be there for him or when he would jeopardize things just to have a good fight. This was the most satisfying character moment I've ever seen Goku have, canon or not.
At this point, DBZ Abridged is canon. The actual series makes references to it.
I don't think that Gohan hates fighting in the show. He just wants a peaceful life. He still did the tournament during the Buu saga of his own volition.

I'm not gonna lie, the scene were Goku sacrifices himself to stop Cell is way more powerful then the original scene. It's one of the only times in Abridged were Goku gets serious and says some powerful stuff, Krillin's shout almost sounds like the original VA and Goku's speech to Gohan is honestly really emotional, Great scene.

I just realised the popping sound for Goku's instant transmission that tfs uses actually makes more sense than the original. Teleporting someone or something instantly like that would leave behind a large volume of empty space in its place so the surrounding air would quickly implode to fill in the space causing a loud popping sound. Another thing I love about this is the tone and music at the beginning of this episode. Its somber, intense, and tragic. There is nothing heroic happening here in that moment. This is a child soldier forced to be pushed to his breaking point because the fate of the world was thrust on his shoulders. Its a pure tragedy and they absolutely nailed it
Goku’s talk to Gohan before teleporting away with cell actually got me to shed a couple tears, this series is so good. It’s been worth the rewatch.
I love how quickly Cell goes from, "yes please" to "I have made a mistake," in regards to Gohan.
