Portable Hand Sewing Station - English Paper Piecing - Jane Austen Themed

  • Today I show you how to change a tray table into a hand sewing station. I use English paper piecing techniques to hand stitch a panel of 2 inch hexagons, 1 inch half hexagons and 1 inch hexagons and I add a zip to make it into a zip pouch/pocket. I attach it into my tray table with velcro so I can take it around the house and garden to sew. Everything can be put away inside quickly keeping it safe from my little boy and cat. The pockets can be interchanged for different projects too. I hope you enjoy this and that you get creative and make your own, all you need is an inexpensive tray, fabric, foam or wadding, a zip and some velcro.

I hope you are doing good and enjoying all of your hand sewing. Thanks again……………………….

So pleased to have seen you making the pocket for the tray, that I've ordered one from Dunelm to arrive before Thursday. I can't wait to make a pocket for the tray as it will make things so much easier for me to carry up and down the stairs. The pocket is a fantastic idea to stop young grandchildren from touching sharp objects that I'm using. Thank you again for the tutorial Emma 💞

...... if it ever stops raining.... ha ha! Same here, m'dear! I would add a magnet to hold my snippers @ catch my needles when I am changing thread. And a small dowel to hold my spool of thread. :-)
Right now I'm obsessed with locating a few squares of Pemberly fabric.

This video is absolutely fantastic! From the music to your creativity, the fabrics, (including the projects in your gorgeous pocket), to your lovely explanations. Thank you! (BTW, just last week I had decided to give away my bed tray which hadn't been used in 30years. I'm so glad I found this first. As another commenter mentioned she didn't know she needed a sewing station and neither did I! 🤩)

Seeing you making your bits was so different materials for you, but the finished items were as lovely as you always make. Thank you for sharing your time telling about Jane Austin and showing us around her house.
I hope you enjoy taking your tray around the house and garden with you, so you can join your family while sewing.. it will make things very nice for you.lovely to see you today, hope you are still getting better, and will soon be back to your old self.

    • @bayoutown1990
      @bayoutown1990 Рік тому

@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox Emma, scrappy projects are what the Lord has led me to do. When I was very ill from stress, He lead me back to being creative. Like you, my creativity was tossed out the window the more successful I became. I felt he actually told me to craft every day to restore the health of my brain and spirit and I truly think it has been a huge help. I had no money to buy anything when I started back and the more I looked into the history of quilting, the more I realized that it began with women using scraps to make something warm for family members. They used their creativity to also make it pretty. Down here in south Mississippi in the U.S., some women used cotton balls from the cotton fields to stuff their quilts. I saw this done with a friend's mother's quilt and I was enthralled with the simplicity of each scrap being hand sewn over the span of a year by lamp light. I wanted to live that heritage and so I have been using scraps. On occasion, I purchase fabric but not too often. I have been given so many fabrics and supplies by friends who found out that I was making clothing from sheets and scrapping quilted items together. I had more than enough to make many things - almost too much. I sew on a treadle sewing machine that was given to me. I came across a video of yours a few days ago and I have been binge watching the videos on your channel. You have so inspired me that I have since started creating new templates from shapes you've used and trying to create some of my own. I am right now putting together a design based off your technique to sew smaller hexies onto the bigger ones and quilt as I go with a Valentine theme. Thank you for starting this channel. You're doing a really good job of it. By the way, my family owns a small multi-media production company and I think the way you are producing your own videos is excellent. You are a very talented lady - and I so appreciate that you approach all of this AS a lady. Lovely!

Oh Emma how lovely to meet you. I’ve just found you🎉😊. I absolutely loved your video and just know we are going to get along . I’m a crocheter but you have sparked a desire to learn this beautiful craft. I’m going to watch your videos so you can teach me 🥰 Thankyou so much. I craft for therapy as I have chronic health problems. It helps me distract. I’m excited to learn EPP now 😌🥰👏🏼🥰

Emma, I enjoy your videos so much. I just sent this one to my sister, I told her about your talents and how soothing it is to watch you sew and make such beautiful pieces. You relax me as you teach me new techniques!! We are both older (in our 70's) but still like to sew small projects. Keep teaching us!!

Great idea, if I can't find a needle I dropped it's certain my hubby will find it by stepping on it. I've dangled a magnet from a string to help find them. My sewing room is in the basement and I really need to sit by a window for the natural light to see better.
I first heard about Liberty fabric from Kate at The Last Homely House and she has a lovely shop and will be adding some liberty scraps to it in the future. She is also in the U K.

That is such a fabulous idea. I shall be recreating this for myself, I plan to use mine not only at home but, I think it would be perfect to take on holidays with me (uk seaside holidays) as the light in the caravan is not the best. I already have that lamp but have never thought of clipping it to a tray. Thank you for your wonderful inspiration Emma!

Hello! Quite a few people have asked about where I bought the little lamp, so I will put a link to it here 😊 www.hobbycraft.co.uk/the-daylight-company-smart-clip_on-lamp/637878-1000
The tray was from Dunelm www.dunelm.com/product/white-wooden-breakfast-tray-1000163291?defaultSkuId=30688548

I can relate to 'if it ever stops raining'. We would usually be having dry grass, humid air no breeze and it is instead raining often like happens in spring. I like the project. Thanks.

I legitimately got chills when the camera panned up and you were hand quilting at Pemberly!!! Hand quilting is my favorite part of any sewing and boy it would be a dream come true for me to be able to do it at Pemberly. You have made this sewing and Austen obsessed girl incredibly happy!

This is such a lovely project, you have such a talent. When you mentioned Jane Austin and Pemberley, I thought to myself wouldn't it be lovely to stay somewhere like that and do my sewing there with other like minded people. For me that would be the perfect weekend away. Of course Mr Darcy would be most welcome 😀x

Hi Emma, what a truly wonderful idea. I also like to move around the house with my projects, I'm learning how to do stump work at the moment and this work station would be ideal. You are the most lovely, delightful person to listen to and unwind with. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful idea with us all. I look forward to your next video. Take care, xxx

ohh I really like the tray idea. another way you could use it is to section it off for scissors, thread, hexagons ect. by using plastic strips then you could create a fabric top to go over it much like a bowl cover only square. great idea as I love stitching hexagons in the living room while watching t.v. but am always looking for easier ways to do it. I also love your light idea. I have one I bought on sale especially for the excellent lighting situation but it is in the center of a round cube and is suppose to be for storing things but I find that things are constantly falling out of it. so this might be a much better solution. Linda
