    I like the kinetic splitter, because it takes advantage of the whole cycle to gain energy for the next split. Which makes is quick and efficient. Not so often we happen to see under the cover the mechanics! Thanks Roger!

    I'll be there to watch the splitter wars 2020. Nice splitter, Roger. Thanks for explaining how to maintain the machine and for showing us the internal parts. I like seeing that to see what technology used in this type equipment. The machine seems fairly simple to maintain. Couple side notes: 1. I likes da T-shirt 😀 2. what truck are you and dad hiding on the other side of the tractor? Yep, I saw the roof top and it got my attention real fast (smile). Enjoyed a full-watch and have a fine week. 👍🏽

    How's she goin'? There is no doubt that a kinetic splitter is way faster. That's an interesting point you raise about the fuel consumption. I had not thought about that. Now I know we are supposed to keep our hands and fingers clear when splitting but, for me at least, the kinetic splitters are so quick, they tend to scare me a little. Maybe since it takes such a conscious effort to activate the rack to split that would make it safe and maybe the more I used one the more comfortable I would get, but they are scary to me. But hey, I'm just an old guy in the woods!!! Thanks for the demo of the innards of your splitter Roger and good luck in the splitter wars, even though it's not a competition!!! LOL Take care!!!

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  4 роки тому +1

      This one has a safety. It takes two hands to drop the rack. Not too long ago I did away with the safety, which I don't recommend. The pusher on this splitter is small/ short. That reduces the pinch zone. It looks fast, but after you split a while, it seems slow.

    My splitter is not working the way it should, at times it makes a lot of noise when splitting, because it doesn't fully engage the Rack with the Pinion, is there a adjustment that fully pushes the rack down to the pinion, It worked perfectly until it just started doing the poping, and downs push wood. Any Ideas as to the Rack Adjustment.

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  4 роки тому

      The 2 nuts on top of the handle are for the adjustment of the handle, which engages the rack. If that is not adjusted properly the rack may not engage.

      Tractor Tech I did learn a few things from your video so thanks for that! I’d like to get a kinetic splitter someday to replace my slow 13 second 37 splitter but the equivalent kinetic models cost around $2400 so we will see... if I wasn’t going to be building a large pole shed soon it’d be bought lol. BTW- I was looking at a big capacity kinetic splitter on the Home Depot site and they say it has a 1 second cycle time, do you think that’s possible? I’d think it’s more like 3 seconds which is plenty fast yet.
      Edit: After looking at some other kinetic splitters I think they mean the splitter has a 1 second ram speed with a likely 3 second cycle speed. 🤔

    • @jakebredthauer5100
      @jakebredthauer5100 3 роки тому

      @@hermancm I saw one advertised with a one second cycle. It said 1/2 second out and 1/2 second return. The operator needs more time than that to get another log.
      Someone should put a four-way. knife on a kinetic splitter. A two-way knife is too slow for commercial use. A business could have a processor and two types of splitters for the various categories of material.

    The problem with kinetic splitters I feel like if you get one tough piece of wood in there it will grind the teeth of the shaft down that the sprocket connects too. Cool design and would totally buy one if they were 300 bucks cheaper than the hydraulic ones but they are around the same price so I’d rather just buy a hydraulic one

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  3 роки тому

      It kicks out of gear if it hits something hard. I have over 100 hours, and 100 cords through this one. It takes an expensive hydraulic splitter to keep up with this splitter. I would buy a cheaper kinetic splitter.

    hi

  • @jakebredthauer5100
    @jakebredthauer5100 3 роки тому

    The kinetic uses less fuel because it does not idle as much and it is a smaller engine. It is working almost all of the time to build up the kinetic energy. The hydraulic engine is mostly idle until it gets that big load on it for one half of a second. When it is running idle, it is still burning fuel but not getting any work done. Understanding this difference is the number one thing to understanding why kinetics works so well to split.
    An axe is a kinetic splitter. Most of the time the axe is building up energy and then it slows down suddenly.

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  3 роки тому

      The engine spins the flywheels. Once the flywheels are up to speed the engine is doing next to nothing. Very rarely when I am splitting do I hear it hit the governor. Most of the time it will go straight through a piece of wood like nothing. This is what makes it so fuel efficient.

    • @jakebredthauer5100
      @jakebredthauer5100 3 роки тому

      @@TractorTech Apparently the engine has a light load on it as it gently increases the flywheel RPM. Splitting the wood takes energy from the flywheel, as much as is needed. The wood slows the flywheel the way wood slows an axe.
      The engine puts energy into the flywheel and the wood takes the energy out of the flywheel. It is technically correct to call the flywheel a battery, because it stores energy. An electrical automotive battery can give you a blast of power and then it will gradually recharge.
      There are laws in physics called thermodynamics relating to energy transfer. All machines have energy lost due to friction, but It is not clear to me which machine has more friction. Much energy on both is for the heat in the exhaust.
      The hydraulic has a big engine for a big short blast of power while the kinetic has a small engine for a gentle continuous power. If the flywheels are going full speed in time for the next split, that is soon enough.
      I would expect an engine on a kinetic to last longer because it has closer to the proper load on it. An engine man may have a better idea on that than myself. If the engine is not getting enough load on it, I would say to slow it down.
