I recently got a super split and I found (and Joe has mentioned this too) that you don't really need to run it at full RPMs to be effective. This helps the ram come out slower and not as violent. The flywheels do the work, the speed isn't as important as it is with a hydraulic splitter. They do great with straight grain stuff like you'd use for bundles. Fast and accurate
Maybe a cup should be added to your PPE. On second thought, a new Eastonmade is a better and safer option. Look forward to seeing what's new in the woodyard!
Thanks Jimbo! The Axis is going to be a great addition though maybe less entertaining than the Power King 😂. Did you see the way Tachel laughed in the background when I got hit??
Lol. The laugh was the best part. I think a couple of things to note about the powerking vs supersplit. Supersplit runs a considerably smaller pusher which will help a lot of splitter tougher wood. Judging by the speed the flywheels are smaller on the powerking, this will make it faster but really sacrifice power
Lol, nah I’m tough. I guess she still likes me or she would have let me keep getting beat up by the power king. But she did laugh pretty hard in the background when I got hit.
That splitter wood work good for kindling. All my splitters are single wedge so I don’t re-split a lot .. but I do keep split-fires 1165 (electric ) with bundlers . If you get a ultra or axis you won’t be disappointed. I enjoyed the ones I have.
Was just watching your video with the kinetic splitter. You need to either sell that splitter or trade for a harbor freight two way splitter it's safer and cheap, from retired woodchuck chuck
I have the 42 ton version of that same manufacturers kinetic log splitter. When it was new it would not hardly split anything, the clutch system on the motor side they used was junk and slipped all the time and it would not split hardly anything. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent out a pulley to replace the clutch system, you then adjust the belt tension accordingly. Since then I have not had a problem with it splitting hardly anything unless it has a lot big knots. It was a difference between night and day after the change. Get rid of that junky clutch system they have if yours has it and replace it with a standard pulley. Adjust the belt where its somewhat tight but will slip if it gets it a real bind. I used mine to now split oak, and hickory some up 18 to 20"
by the sounds it is making when you were dragging the ram out , it sounds like you have a stuffed bearing , i could be wrong though , looks like a good unit though , i have got a 34 ton forestwest
Back in the day, people would pull a straight six out of a car and put in a V-8. So, my first suggestion, a twin cylinder Honda., and for your daughter, electric start. The flywheel stores and transmits energy, so go to a brake shop and get a big heavy brake rotor they have in the junk pile. take that to a machine shop and have them connect it to the rotor and then speed balance and static balance it. While all this is going on, beef up the belt drive, seriously, probably with a serpentine belt from a diesel truck, and put on an alternator to run floodlights, and a sound system. Commenters also suggested sharpening the wedge. Also you need arms that come from both sides to hold the wood while it splits. And put a muffler on the stupid thing. How are you supposed to hear the radio?
Time to send that thing a long. Never liked those types of splitters. Eastonmade Ultra is the answer. You would think there would be more than one belt to run those flywheels. Have a great weekend.
Noel, the power king will be moving on. I could tinker with it to try to get it performing better but I’ll let a buddy do that. The splitter will debut tomorrow morning.
Didn't realize that was belt /wheel driven. If you please.. How does it return the ram? If it's too complicated, that's ok. Don't give up. Still a pretty cool splitter! :) Safety tip: tie tongue to something heavy or chuck wheels?
It is returned by some springs on the back end of it. They stretch as it extends then pull it back. I had the wheels chocked with some pieces of wood to keep it from rolling.
Hope your protective gear went below the belt buckle heath. I would use my fiskars splitting axe before I used that pile of scrap metal. Bet it's a nice new splitters dream machine 🎉
That splitter needs to go!!! That thing is dangerous. Looks like whoever Rachel called is takin thing’s pretty seriously by seeing that truck rolling in. 😂😂. Y’all be careful and keep up the great work. Bruce in Wv!!!
I got this same model about 8 months ago to help out with my hydraulic splitter. It should not exist. Have all the same issues you do. No way to resell it because it just won’t perform. I got a used DR kinetic with 75lb flywheels and it is night and day difference. I think the power king flywheels are just too small for a kinetic and they tried to make up the difference with speed.
Be aware! Mine tends to move when working with it. The movement of the ram when going back pushes the whole machine. When having it on the ramps - this might end in a Desaster. Mine does not make any problems even with much bigger logs. It is written in my manual that the bolts connecting the flywheel and the axle between the flywheels does have to have 12 nm torque. I am not sure but it maybe is an overloadprotection.
@@hardworkingmanoutdoors Normally I would give your comment a thump up to let you know that I have realized it. But in this case a thump up would be inadequate.
IF you wanted to persist with that machine I'd be dropping the revs and potentially bolting another flywheel onto the existing pair. The lack of power is a function of the amount of mass and how fast it's spinning. You don't really want it coming out any faster but some more oomph wouldn't go astray.
I've split hundreds of cords with my Super Split. Also do a lot of resplits on processor wood I buy in. Zero issues in 10yrs. I don't like this machine you have here. Personally, I would recommend selling this for safty and performance reasons.

Michael, that Power King is not for the weak that’s for sure lol. Makes for some good entertainment though. If you could take the true danger out of it I could see it being a fun party game lol. Everyone runs one piece through, if you get hit by flying splits you’re out. Last man standing wins.
well, that plan didn't come together. Da Boys got hit again. I've never been a fan of kinetic splitters. i looked at a DR long ago but went for a craftsman 27 ton years ago. slow and steady but she gets the job done. I'm just splitting for myself anyway. i only go through about 4 cord a year, heating the whole house. truckload of splitters...how cool is that.
No worries at all Mark, it’s been fun but I think I’ve had my fun with it. Going to pass it along to a tinkerer who may be able to modify it to be more useful.
dont tighten the belts what ever you do , the belts are supposed to work like a clutch , they are supposed to slip when the ram reaches full depth , so as to not smash the pinion or bend other bits as i found out the hard way , i have a 34 toner , i smashed teeth off of the pinion and bent other bits , just buy a much bigger splitter

Try adding some grip tape to the ram face. Should help to prevent the logs from slipping out
I thought about modifying it but decided I’d just move on in this case due to lack of power as well as the other issues.
