Whether in English or in german with Curd Jürgens as speaker instead of Richard Burton in english. I had the LPs got the CD's and copied it to my SSD. It', just a click away ;-) Jeff Waynes version is the best besides the writer!
@@DJDanceClassic That's your opinion just like mine is my opinion... that's the thing with music, it all comes down to personal taste... so don't tell me no mate... I'm glad you like 'The Wall'... but that's 'your' opinion....
Despite this album being well before my time, it's one of my favourites. Beautifully composed, beautifully sung by the singers, beautifully acted by the voice actors. There are so many things that were done well with this album, and I still continue to listen to it.
I remember my friend and I went 1/2 and 1/2 to buy this album.. and then went back his apartment and smoked some of the best weed available at the time... this was what... 1976? and we got blassted.. What a great memory. Thanks
Back in the days, as a boy, I listened to this in bed, in complete darkness. It added so much to the experience. And I thought the musical covered very well the events in the book. Brilliant album.
Born in the late 70s, I grew up listening to this in South Australia. My parents would blast it out of our little house front window while I sat on the front lawn. I still listen to it now. Love Justin Hayward too
It had been my favorite book as a boy so I was thrilled when the Musical version of War of the Worlds came out in 1978. To this day, it is completely unique in the history of music.
I was in hospital in 1978 and my uncle tapped it onto a tape called a 90+6 made by BASF (I think). He brought into hospital for me. I played many, many time over the next 6 months I was there. I still love that album and it brings back so many memories of being in hospital.
ik vind deze variant 10000x beter dan de nieuwe versie uit eindelijk vond ik de dvd bij blokker en ik rende als een sneltrein naar de balie om hem te kopen :)
That is the best and only true widely known ROCK opera and not just an opera with distorted guitars! And one of the first records that would come to mind as visual music and musical storytelling.
Gustaf Cederborg ah, you mean in general:) yep, but I was referring to WoWs as true opera only because: 1. I’ve counted out all opera-like music. Without librettos, different heroes, story and so on. 2. Be a rock music in the first place, but with all opera traits. Example: Jesus Christ Superstar is more like an opera with drums and guitars, rather than true rock opera. That’s it. Supertramp are great of course! Just what I’ve heard was not an opera per se, that’s it:)
I had dreadful nightmares as a child when I first heard this and refused to leave the house for a week, I was so traumatised by this album I could not listen to it for over 20 years lol
it is absolutely worth it! I've bought it years ago and can't remember how many times I've watched it. Make sure you get the right version, which is the entire concert lasting almost two hours. There's also a short adaptation only lasting 30 minutes.
if you liked this then try Rick Wakemans` Journey to the Centre of the Earth. recorded a few years earlier with David Hemmings acting as narrator. It was recorded live at the Albert Hall.It was planned to have two nights of recording but one turned out to be unusable. making it even more remarkable.
I bought this album when I was in my teens, when it came out, read the book, but only realised recently this story is about colonialism. Duh! Hindsight is 20/20, but I really don’t get why I didn’t get this. Album is great though, Richard Burton is the Cherry on the cake
The song is from one of the best soundtracks of all time..... brilliant...
The John Farnham Experience

Best record I've ever heard. Listened to it since I was twelve years old. Definitely in the top ten best albums ever made.
This is the best musical story I've ever heard - I've lost count of how many times I listened to Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds"
Back in the days, as a boy, I listened to this in bed, in complete darkness. It added so much to the experience. And I thought the musical covered very well the events in the book. Brilliant album.
It's the seamless integration of electronic, rock and orchestral sounds that I love.

They are still on tour with it. And it is worth to see and hear it live! ULAH!

Gustaf Cederborg my bad - do not know them as well. What is exact name? Will give it a try

"Adaptions were all centered in the modern America! I decided to place it in its own time, backed by the setting accurate disco beat."
As a 13 year old i was terrified and fascinated in one by this album…
Richard Burton was the voice.
Yes he was and only his voice made it!
Wrong! He is just one of the two voices being so terrific. The other one in german was Curd Jürgens. Really, just as good.
@@MrNickelbrille youre right, I like both. And they where both great actors.

But I found Julie Covington with her "Nathaniel" so carming.I keep singing that when life fucks around with me again

Captivated by this when I heard it in autumn 1978,having seen the film several years previously but not yet read the book.
