the reason the scenes shifted from grey to colour is because it shifted with whos perspective it is from, colour is oppenheimer and grey is rdj's character's perspective
I heard color is Oppenheimer's subjective POV while black and white is objective.

0:20 wait, Intersteller? Really? The character work in that story was great. The MC watching his children grow after losing years in space was such a touching character moment.
It's a testament to Christopher Nolan's immense directing talent that he made a three hour movie mostly composed of dialogue, and managed to make it interesting throughout the extensive running time.
I mostly only cared about the Bomb and its creation but Oppenheimers story was very compelling and watchable. The part after the Bomb goes off is too long
I think most critics would agree its not a good proportion for the movie
The colored scenes display Oppenheimer’s subjective perspective, while the black and white scenes show an objective perspective on the matter.
I think my favorite scene in the movie is when Oppenheimer meets President Truman. Gary Oldman is literally in the movie for just one scene and he still managed to command the room. I’ve never been so unsettled by a scene featuring Gary Oldman since Air Force One (which ironically also featured a President)! 😂
Very true. I think Casey Affleck does the same but in a much more subtle way. Very un-nerving though
As always a great review Eric, love your content. The only thing I'd say is that the reason the scenes switched between colour and black and white is because of perspective. The black and white scenes are supposed to represent what is known by history to have happened. On the other hand the colour scenes are supposed to represent Nolan's interpretation of events.
So that's why you would see the courtroom scenes in black and white and scenes on oppenheimer's internal struggle to be in colour.

I have to admit I was a little bit worried about this movie, the first 20 minutes or so felt very rushed to me and the music as well never shut up, but as soon as the mention the invasion of Poland the movie started to take its time and in the end was an amazing movie!
Now the question is, with Barbie also getting a positive review score on Rotten Tomatoes, will you give it a watch? 🧐

I agree that some scenes could be confusing, but this is my favorite movie since TDKR. The 3 hours just fly by (mostly), and it was extremely well-acted. Cillian Murphy and RDJ will at least be nominated for Oscars for their amazing performances. RDJ has still got it, and the rest of this stacked cast (including Pugh) are great. My biggest issue is the R-rating. Saw it with my dad, and we both agreed that people are calling this a “mature” movie because of the gratuitous nudity. Those people are wrong: this could have been a PG-13 without the nudity, and you can still have an F-bomb. That would be a preferable version for me. This is not Nolan’s most rewatchable movie, or even his best. It’s been a bit overhyped, BUT for me it’s a return to form! 9/10 for me, too, mostly because of the gratuitous content and unnecessary R-rating. Heck, the sound design was the best it’s been since TDKR: I could actually understand the dialogue!
After seeing Oppenheimer, I wish Rdj can come back to the mcu. But I already know Eric will be mad if they bring him back to life

The black and white scenes are meant to be “objective views,” where we see it how the rest of the world sees J.R. Oppenheimer, while the colored scenes are “subjective views,” where we see it how J.R. Oppenheimer HIMSELF sees the rest of the world, apparently

We'll see. The problem is that no one seems to be interested in that movie. So I don't know if it'll be worth making a versus video of.

Great review as always Eric! I also really loved this movie and thought it was Nolan’s best movie in years! And my theater was chill for once which was a relief!
Don’t listen to Eric Carter. He uses manipulative language to make you believe it’s a big deal when really it isn’t.
He always act like he knows everything about Christopher Nolan’s movies, but has he seen Intersteller? He criticised that movie solely because of the character development. I haven’t seen that movie myself, but it sounds like he’s lying. Just a word of advice.

WOAH WOAH WOAH, Jonathan Nolan wrote Interstellar with my boy Chris. You forgot? Or is that an outlier of some sort?
Jonathan Nolan wrote the movie back in the day by himself when he was younger, but Nolan gave it a re-write without his Brother's input.

I really want to see Oppenheimer. Eric, I would recommend one of my favorites shows of all time. It is Chernobyl by Craig Mazin. It is a great show that shows the worst nuclear disaster. I gave a 10/10 after it was over.

To me I think the film made some scenes black and white not to show after the atom bomb after all the interrogation scenes were also coloured and we know they took place after the bomb, so to me the scenes in black and white are meant to show what really happened and the objective truth to reality and the coloured scenes are more of how Oppenheimer himself tells the story, essentially how he saw everything play out witch explains some of the freaky imagery and crazy sounds while the black and white scenes are objectively the truth

Thanks. Oh I don't doubt for a second that Chris Nolan can write a good script. It's just his characters that are not very fleshed out.
Just compare the development of his Batman characters to the characters in Inception and Dunkirk. There is a massive difference.
As for Barbie. No. It seems to be great for its target audience, but it's not for me.

@@EricCarter12 ahh, I see what your saying. The Dark Knight for me is Nolan’s best so that's fair. I did see Barbie. I liked it very much. I don't think it's in the great territory because of some of the issues I had with the script and the stuff with Will Ferrall. But touching movie with some great filmmaking choices.

the reason why it was shifting from black and white, to color is because its suppose to differentiating the historical parts about it and the personal parts of the movie

Nah. I remember liking the first film ok. But I have a real issue with Shark movies not being rated R.
The first film was intended to be rated R but then they edited it down to a PG-13.
@@EricCarter12 yeah I understand. I hate that lots of movies get edited from R ratings to PG-13 cuts. It’s tiresome. If I made a R rated horror movie, I would not let it be interfered. I’ll refuse to release it if I was being forced to turn it PG-13. I would shop it elsewhere. I wish there were more R rated films these days, especially for comic book movies that suite for mature content.

@@ParkerCS-dh7rf I don't know if it works like that because you'd need a distributor who can send it off to as many cinemas as possible.
But if the movie is advertised well, gets great word of mouth, then there's potential that it could be a success.

The only reason you love Dark Knight rises is because he went back to his old ways to give a satisfying conclusion to a trilogy he already started. He fell off long before. Remember Inception, aka Tenet 1.0?
If Jonathan Nolan wasn't making Westwood, he'd still be writing Christopher's movies with him.

kekurangan oppenheimer menurut gw: Penggunaan R rating yang kurang (maksudnya film ini pg 13 juga bisa, kalau ada kesempatan untuk r rating harusnya lebih digunakan dengan sebaik mungkin). Hanya 2nd half dan 3rd half dari film nya yang menurut gw sangat bagus dan rasanya pengen nonton terus, tapi 1st half nya agak slow dan bisa bikin audience langsung punya perspektif dan pendapat masing². Gw gk tau kenapa cuman gw gk suka banget sama karakternya si mantan oppenheimer, karakternya kayak out of nowhere, deep sih deep cuman kurang ada... momentum istilahnya

Can you give The Sound of Freedom? It's a good film. I know that child trafficking existed but this film shows a glimpse of how their world looks and works. Honestly an uncomfortable watch especially when it's based off a true story.

I have not watched this movie yet but I do agree with you about the reason why the R rating felt so poor it's because of the fact that the nudity and the sex scene it's just completely pointless I never want to sit through that scene I'm against the idea of those types of scenes in movies besides they are a waste of time and they are a complete distraction of the overall story that is the biggest problem with the Movie and I think you would agree with this how about leave out that seen all together get rid of it and maybe shorten the run time a little bit.
7/10 for me but good👍

@@EricCarter12 I did. I thought it was fantastic. There are some jokes that don’t work and given that the movie was meant to be exclusively on HBO Max some of the effects are a little hit and miss, but it has so much heart and a fantastic climax. The actors are all fantastic and there is definitely an edge to it. It’s not all fluff with no stakes. Honestly the best DC movie of the year in my opinion, granted the bar isn’t high but nonetheless it’s a great movie. I honestly recommend checking it out. I don’t think it’s as good as Guardians 3 or Across the Spiderverse but I still think it’s a win for DC (though obviously not financially sadly).
I'm glad you enjoyed it buddy. That seems to be the general consensus. No one liked the trailers but really enjoyed the film.
Because the movie was designed as a streaming film, I don't mind watching it at home.
How was the Scarab? It seemed very generic to me in the trailers.
@@EricCarter12 I think the scarab is more important for what it becomes rather than what it looks like. Once it is the suit I think it works really well, especially at the end. There is one part in the movie at the beginning of the climax that is absolutely incredible. The marketing did do a really poor job with the movie as it’s much better than what the trailers show. I went in with no expectations and had to push myself to see it. It’s honestly much better than you might expect.

Yes I did. I thought it was ok. The cliffhangers are incredibly lacklustre as we know that these movies are not going to kill their characters off as they keep bringing them back. Even at the end of this movie.

@@adamgrunther1367 He was the BEST part of the film. I don't mind him as the criminal mastermind. And the fact that it took him so many years to realise that the thing most precious to Dom is "family" was just ridiculous.
But he was the best (and weirdest) part of the film. Without him the movie wouldn't have been as much fun as it was.
@@EricCarter12 I enjoyed Fast X too! However, I’m getting tired of every movie ending on cliffhangers in Hollywood. Fast X could’ve had a similar ending to Mission Impossible 7 where it’s an open ended without a cliffhanger.
