1. Bilingual Dialogue.
Prompt: "I would like to practice my conversational Spanish. You speak in Spanish, and I'll respond in English. Let's maintain a conversation with this language exchange."
2. Slang Translation
Prompt: "I'm currently in Portugal and people keep saying "pa" before every sentence. It's some sort of slang or filler word, I don't understand what it means. Please explain."

@@ArifulIslam-ic7zt probably because you used Chat GPT a lot and don't have the Team or Enterprise plan with higher message caps.
Another tip is: at the begging of your prompt ask them to speak and pronounce the words of the language you are trying to learn as a native would. If you don’t say that and they are speaking English to you mixed with, let’s say, Spanish, the AI will almost always pronounce words wrong. Kind of how an English speaker would pronounce a word they didn’t know in another language.
I’d also recommend making your own GPT and “program” the AI to be a professor or teacher that is fluent and a professional speaker in whatever language you’re learning. Ask it to use the internet to understand the culture and local way of speaking to further enhance it. This way from the start it has the foundation needed to speak and teach correctly. Cheers!
Good ideas. Here we heard "cane", Italian for "dog", pronounced like it was a stick in English. No wonder he was baffled.

Man, you saved my life with the "hold your finger on the screen while you're speaking" tip hahaha, I was really uncomfortable with the fact of speaking in a hurry in order to avoid ChatGPT interrupting me
Exactly. İ did always use the errrrrrrrrr voice with my mount so he cant interfare my speaking. Nevertheless he did.

I never thought about using ChatGPT to learn languages, definitely will give it a try! I'm currently learning a few languages (korean, italian and french), I'm not a native english speaker (I'm from Brazil) and I normally don't have anyone to practice idioms with, so chatgpt will suit me perfectly!

How is it going? Being a native German speaker, I had a conversation with ChatGPT in German, English, French and Russian today. It made one mistake in German and one in Russian, but overall I was really impressed at how well it works.

I want someone to practice french
I speak Italian, and I can tell you that the way ChatGPT pronounced "cane" (i.e. "cain") is COMPLETELY WRONG!!! It's supposed to be "Ka (as in CAliber) Ne (as is NEpotism)! Also, ChatGPT pronounced "casa" with a hard "s", like you would say it in Spanish, but in Italian the correct way of saying this word is "caZa". So I wouldn't trust this app as far as pronunciation goes.
I heard sowtomarino, I.e., it speaks the words as they would be pronounced in English, not impressive.
The same with „libro“
Yeah, its Italian pronunciation wasn't good publicity. In my experience, Chat GPT can manage a language at a time; in other words, you can ask it to speak a whole answer in English, but if you want to get Italian pronunciation, you need to ask a new question, like "talk me about the weather in Italian". When the chat tries to switch language in the middle of a response, it kind of gets stuck in the main language of the answer.
I think that was a coding error. GPT was in English mode, so it pronounced the words in English the whole time. If it speaks in Italian (completely), it pronounces the words correctly.
In portuguese, GPT is amazing.
Como te Lamas? How are your lamas? I was excited about using ChatGPT to learn Spanish until I heard that. hahaha. All kidding aside, this is a mind blowing tech. I can't believe how far it's come in such a short time. The voice sounds amazing.

I really do not mind a few errors, still it is fantastic help to improve understanding and pronunciation. I’m learning mandarin, and to find somebody to practice is difficult in a sea of cantonese speakers…

I started using this last week. I'm at B1 in Spanish, and I live in Spain, but my reading, writing, and comprehension is ahead of my speaking. All the information is in my brain, but I often just get a brain freeze in the middle of conversation. This for me is where cgpt comes in, to just practice speaking without the pressure of real world scenarios. Also, when set to Castillian voice and dialect the AI does a pretty decent job. I would definitely recommend it for speaking practice. Plus you obviously get the reading and comprehension practice while you're doing it.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but kane isn't an Italian word. The letter K doesn't exist in an Italian dictionary. Cane is the correct spelling. It also got wrong the pronunciation. Italians phonetic is easy, we read as we write.😅
Even though I don't speak Italian, I knew that was the wrong pronunciation. 😂. It was literally reading Italian as an English person.

@@Laggie74but just think of it as this is chat GPT level 1 like when we get to 5.0 7.0 bro it's going to be different it'll be able to just sit here and rattle off you know back and forth cutting each other off mid Sensei without it having to suggest do you have any more questions for me
He needs to start with saying something in Italian (like he did for practicing english) or doing what he did with Spanish so he gets the Italian voice. Instead it detected him speaking English so it stuck him in the English language setting screwing up its Italian teaching.

This is Amazing! This is exactly what I need to practice language. I love that ChatGPT can correct me. It actually complimented saying that my command of the language is pretty good (not my opinion of myself all!).
It goes without saying that you can't rely on the pronunciation or idiom 100%. The most valuable use of this app for language learning is simply to give oneself the opportunity to produce spontaneous sentences. Moving from passive to active interaction is a very difficult and crucial step.

Thank you for this. Even if it may not be perfect it's free and better than nothing, especially when trying to speak a new language. Most people are scared of using their new language with someone, this may allow people to overcome that hurdle.

I always have a brief moment of amazement when i hear ChatGPT respond verbally, christ does it ever sound good and smooth.
Regarding some comments here, that ChatGPT speaks with an American accent, etc. My original language is Polish. I speak with ChatGPT using Polish or English. When ChatGPT explains something in English and adds some Polish words or phrases, the accent is American. But when I talk with ChatGPT only in Polish, its accent is better Polish than most of the Polish people that I know. Start a conversation with something like this: "Can we speak in Polish, German, Italian, etc.?" and speak only in this language. Maybe this will help.

Thanks for the video. It should be added that native speakers very often do not understand each other. And not only the Americans are British. The English from the central part do not understand the English from the northern part. It's the same with the Americans. So, you have to be realistic and not expect that you have to understand everyone at all times.

This is amazing and will fast track my Italian skills. What was interesting was in the vocabulary quiz section it asked you to translate "cane" which is dog but chatgpt pronounces it incorrectly. It isn't "cay-n" but "kah-neh". The pronunciation part needs work I think.
Yeah, and the voice has a slight American accent in all three languages I tried it with. I asked it if this was the case, and it responded "Yes, I do perhaps have an American accent when I speak foreign languages", or something along those lines. But still, very impressive stuff.

I think this was due to the fact that it was speaking in English with an "English voice" at the time. It also mispronounced the Spanish word llamas in one of his examples, but it was speaking in English and included the Spanish word. This was also the case when it was quizing on Italian Vocab (if I recall correctly) so that was probably the problem. When I use it I mostly do crosstalk (I speak in English and have it to always respond in Spanish) and I haven't had any problem like that.

Learning from a native speaker is critical. When I was testing an application I'm working on that uses Open AI, (maker of ChatGPT), I noticed that it's translator didn't work with my class of English-first-languagen Spanish speakers. For days, I thought that the translator was no good. However, I tested it with a native speaker video, and it breezed along translating to English. I found this video with an American pronunciation and decide to try THIS video and it proved that's literally been the issue all along. Even Open AI responds to accents, and it will not translate a non native speaker efficiently. It will transcribe the language you're speaking no matter how bad the accent. But it will not translate it at all, or it will flounder badly. Sometimes it will even throw in a random translation. Like if a person who is native French speaker speaks Spanish (for an English translation), it will likely simply transcribe to Spanish, with maybe some French translation thrown in. But when you're in learning mode accents matter profoundly, for people AND for AI.
This is great to learn German. Who needs gpts and plus when you have great prompts
I just ask ChatGPT for some Irish exercises at A1.2. It made a complete beginner mistake. Its reply when I pointed it out: “I appreciate your attention to detail. Apologies for the oversight. You are correct; it should be "go dtí an chóisir" since "cóisir" is a feminine noun. Here's the corrected sentence:
"An bhfuil tú ag teacht go dtí an chóisir?"
Thank you for catching that mistake. If you have any more questions or if there's anything else I can assist you with, feel free to let me know!” 😂 The student teaching the teacher… Not exactly what I need. I hope that more common languages don’t have such errors.
So just like Google Translate: In order to make best use of it, you need to be fluent or at a very high level to be able to properly evaluate its quality.

In the part "vocabulary quiz" CANE (dog) in Italian is NOT pronounced as cane in English (the way ChatGPT pronounces it). How are you supposed to learn a language if the pronounciation used is wrong? Cane in Italian is pronounced with an open [a] [kane] not with the diphtong [kein] and no final [e]
