This has been a great series. I'm not licensed yet, but seeing how much fun you're having--and just how much you can do--with a Technician license definitely has it pushed to the top of my todo list. :)
Since I live in an apartment and can't put a charcoal or gas barbecue on my balcony, let alone an antenna, I really appreciated the look at next generation radio tech. I know there are a lot of hams that think you aren't doing it for real if you didn't, I don't know, solder your antenna together with a hand-crank-powered iron in the middle of the night with only the light of a dozen fireflies to show you the way, but as much as I love the gear aspect, I'm much more interested in having a functional, manageable rig that I could actually use to get on the air. ;)

Liked you part one and part two of the videos, very educational. And this all started with the purchase of an SDR. I just got my tech license 30 ago after following your journey getting your own license. 73.

This series has been great! Even though I'm not an operator, I do find this fascinating. I do remember, as a kid in the 80s, my dad listening to short wave radio. I remember that it was very cool to listen to one particular station in New Orleans, even though we lived in NC. How cool that you could contact someone all the way in Poland? Very nice!

Very interesting, thanks! I'd like to know more about the digital aspects like PSK and packet radio.

Wow, it was really cool seeing old gear I used 60 years ago. Think I saw the same model Heathkit SSB transmitter.

If you are a tech, and you have a radio and antenna set up at your house, you can use phone on 28.3 to 28.5. Its a great cross country band during the day. 100W will get you around the world with a simple 1/2 wave dipole up about 20' or higher. What is your callsign? Will listen for you. N5GGG

I am KC1RGS - 10 meter opened up nicely on Sunday and I made it all the way down to Brazil on phone!

@@LonSeidman Good contact. Japan comes in in the late afternoon, and check for Australia just before dark too. Europe in the morning. 10 is a great band. With the sunspot cycle, its going to get WAY better for the next 4 years.

I heard you make the "broadcast" faux pas enough times in these videos that hopefully I will be spared doing the same. 😅

Next up… the future of butter churning and hand looms.
