Filmed in December 2018, Hysteria At The O2 captures Def Leppard celebrating the groundbreaking Hysteria, one of their two diamond-certified 10x platinum albums (the other being Pyromania). Performed in its entirety before a ravenous sold-out crowd, this momentous homecoming event is made all the more powerful as it was their long-awaited debut at the iconic O2 Arena in London.
Six months later, just after their induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Def Leppard undertook a residency in Las Vegas at Zappos Theatre in Planet Hollywood. Hits Vegas, Live At Planet Hollywood is a 28-song deep dive into not only their greatest hits, but rarities and acoustic renditions.
Current members
Joe Elliott: lead vocals, occasional rhythm guitar, keyboards, piano (1977-present)
Rick Savage: bass guitar, keyboards, backing vocals (1977-present)
Rick Allen: drums, percussion, backing vocals (1978-present)
Phil Collen: guitars, backing vocals (1982-present)
Vivian Campbell: guitars, backing vocals (1992-present)
I really wish they played this live more often. It wasn’t a hit, but god damn it was one of their best songs.
It's my favorite Def Leppard track of all time, and sadly having seen them 5 times live, they've never played this when I was in the audience.
Maybe they will run through the Hysteria album for The Stadium Tour since it will likely be a shorter set than they usually do...
@@johnstorm9314 I truly think this performance had a playback of Steve's playing. Listen to it, notice how all of Steve's parts are identical to what he played live. Notice how Phil's parts are different than what he played on tour for Hysteria.
And the proof is
@@shanedenmark5536 they always do. R.I.P. Steve.
@@ilovesteveclark6084 Steve Clark never ever played quite the same twice. How you can say it was identical to the whole tour is beyond me.
I see a tremendous difference in this performance vs. post Steve. It’s sad. Loved Steve ❤ But Vivian does an incredible job. Give him credit deserved. You are still Def Leppard! We love you!
That opening bass line never fails to give me goosebumps.
Heck yeah...bad to the bone
I used to day dream about playing bass thanks to this one!
I miss Steve Clark so much🙄🙄😪
It was one of the first bass lines I learned to play. Still one of my favorites!!
H,(*
Best version of this song I've heard yet. Vivian Campbell's solo is not extremely flashy but masterful playing. Harmonics, vibrato, wow....
The solo was perfect !!!
I loved Phil channeling his inner Dimebag doing the harmonics on the ending
a subjective comment, interesting also given Viv, as a beast of a guitarist he is has admitted several times verbatim "I still can;'t play GoW". Viv and you aint even on the same planet, factually speaking.
You're dreaming mate - Steve owned the stage, perhaps go look up the gig the entry intro footage was used from, Denver Colorado 'In The Round' and claim what you have.
Truly amazing - firstly Viv does NOT have a Kahler/trem, hence relying on Collen's trem and sustain, Steve's hands were always perfect and loose, Vivian DOES a good job but NO way on earth he can EVER replicate the genius that remains "The Riffmaster".@@DoktorDamage
Guess you weren't around in 1987/88 for In The Round In Your Face version of this song.... oh well not everybody can be blessed I suppose🤷🏻♂️
no I was not, and I truly envy anyone who was there. I never got to see EVH either, but Ace I have, and Steve 'fingers' Stevens.
Add Tracii Guns and they're my best ever seen players - but again to me Steve had it all - the complete package.
Watching Viv playing TL4L at the 'Leadmill' is for me a perfect example of 'why' as brilliant as he is Viv just cannot replicate Steve's playing. @@reckoninginc.
Can't believe I've been listening to Def Lepp for 41 years .Saw them in concert in 88 .Best live concert ever !
I wasn't born then, but I would have loved to be there then.
I saw them back in 88' as well with Steve Clark. It was awesome. Queensryche opened up the show and they were great as well.
They were my first concert!! In 88 also couldn't believe it's been so long ago..
I saw them in 95. Still, by far the best concert I’ve seen.
This intro give me goose bumps!!!
This performance may be even better than the studio album version. Truly astonishing.
Agree. I keep going back and forth and this is better. Absolutely astonishing performance.
RIP Steve, I know your spirit continues to shine across time in which you weren't given enough of. We miss you and may you continue to live in peace wherever you may be.
There has never been a guitarist so good, that a band plays a tribute to him with video of him from 30 years ago... This is a first... And a last. Will never happen again, ever.
They just seem like class acts. I was blown away by the gratitude expressed in their Hall of Fame induction speech. Keeping Steve's memory alive just seems completely in character for them.
Sadly a lot of singers souls are tortured. Some can't handle the fame ! We miss you " Steamin Steve Clark " .
Name me ONE 80's band that still sounds this amazing in concert, and is still kicking ass and taking names while doing it!
Def Leppard.
AC/DC (yeah yeah, they started in the 70's, But Brian joined in the 80's)
None comes to mind
The Cult
Journey...thanks to Arnel Pineda though
Clarke was epic. Saw them twice in the early 80's. He was mesmerising.
Sorry mate it’s Clark not Clarke.
@@adamwood7597 I think folks may get confused about the spelling because of the bassist Stanley Clarke. Well, I know I have.
Def leppard for ever!
Same here. I saw them twice in the 1980s. The first time was at the 1986 Monsters of Rock in Mannheim Germany. There was a backup drummer scheduled (just in case) but he was stuck at the airport or in traffic. No fear, the "Thunder God" was there and handled the job beautifully on his own.
Man... How old are you now?
I saw the Hysteria Tour in 1988 at Irvine Medows, Irvine,Ca. Cinderella opened for them. I was able to see Steve Clark and the entire band play this bad ass song live! This band will live in infamy forever! Their music still rocks!
That must’ve been legendary 🤘🤘🤘🤘
One of the greatest guitarists of all time and also a great song! Love me some Def Lep!
God I miss Steve!!!😞 Thank God he left behind great music to remember him by!!🎸🎸🎸
I agree!😥
A rightful and beautiful picture of a extremely shy, tortured man in "Steamin" with his beaming smile, 18 string razor....and then we get the intro on his Kahler modded TBird..."The Riffmaster" penned, and created the melodies, harmonies, hooks, bends and riffs to SO MANY Leppard songs where do you start?
GoW is arguably, along with TLFL his best. Live, the 88 'In The Round In Your Face Tour Colorado' is arguably the best live performance filmed in excellent footage, "Steamin" just oozed cool strapped low. Elliot calls 'GoW' Steve's "Kashmir"...........yes, but again his legacy, especially on the earlier heavier records with 'Billy' for example, or the opening and ride out solo of 'Photograph' in Denver are staggering, and then there's the early gigs filmed again in excellent footage in 83/84 in Lyon and Germany. Sadly there is no video I have seen of the massive gig they did in Europe-Donnington, well it exists but the camera is so far back, but it is something. As Vivian humbly, but factually noted "90% of what we play Steve left us".....and whoever the wanker is that disliked this video is - you're a fucking clown. Fuck off and watch backstreet Boys.
Steve is missed. Vivian is so so underappreciated.
Beautifully said!
I'm glad to say I got to see steve steaming clark twice on the original hysteria tour UK.. Brilliant.. 👍👍..
Their music is such an amazing, cohesive fusion. They all compliment each other. Awesomeness! 🥰
One of best bands ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steve must never be forgotten
He's not 🙂🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Killer version! Love this tune. Damn near perfect song
You want to hear and see his GoW is played live? I mean the PERFECT way? Denver Colorado 88, In The Round In Your Face...and watch how it's done by the real lyrical and musical genius of this band....Steven Maynard "The Riffmaster" Clark....watch it and then tell me you've seen better?
william broadstreet You have a point. It’s Steve’s riffs after all
This is about the best live version of any tune I gave heard in a long time.
Great chords, great voices, great live performance and above all, lyrics that has order and sense. One of the very best creations of Def and specially of missed Steve Maynard Clark. This song never gets you bored. it makes one to reflect.
My favourite musician of all time since 1987, at the age of 13. When Animal was released as a single, that was it, I was hooked.
Me too I was 16. I was blown away. Couldn't get enough...then went backwards in time...Pyro, HnD, OTtN .... I remember exactly where I was when I heard he died. I was crushed he wasn't my first hero but he was my first hero to die.
Always will be my favourite track off Hysteria!
Excellent! To me When Steve died Def Leppard were never the same again.
Underrated song off the Hysteria album, one of my favorites from Def Leppard
god i just started crying when i saw that pic, i miss him so much, i wasn´t alive when he was here and when he died but it still hurts as hell, if only he had realized how special he was :((
I was three months old when he died. Love Steve and miss him a lot.
I was 29 and I miss him to this day
"Well someone's chopping them damn onions lol, what a legend he was 🙏
My parents didn’t let me go to this concert in Denver in 88 at the age of Twelve!! But they let me go to my first Ozzy concert( who I’ve seen 12 times since) at the age of Thirteen the next year in 89!! Yes I still hold a grudge on that!!!
RIP Steve, you were one of the best. So glad I got to see you play live a few times ❤
Still absolute top quality!
Always loved that album , REST IN PEACE STEVE !!
Goes unsaid too often what a stalwart Rick Savage has been through all this. Great band.
wished I would have gotten to see him with them!!
I did 3 times 😘
I feel the same way... Only got to see the boys live in concert in 1996. In Durban, South Africa... 😏😔
I must add, Viv is absolutely awesome as well. He had such huge shoes to fill and he has done an amazing job.. Such a humble and likeable person as well, 😊
Steve Clark is a legend miss him so much 🎶🎸r I P m8 🙏🙏thanx 4this awesome song 👋💯🇬🇧🎶🎸♥️🥴
Stephen Maynard Clark 🤘🤘😎😎what a fucking tune, play it loud people
Glorious band !!!
Vivian has this certain vibrato.... damn... so sweet... words cannot describe it... but it is b-e-a-utiful...
Love that song is killerrrrrr as Clark too, peace!!!
See kids, THIS is what is known as a GREAT fkn band that has made GREAT fkn music.
How can you tell that the above statement is factual and not mere opinion? The answer is quite simple and it's called. . .
LONGEVITY.
🧐Class dismissed. 🍎
Freakin' right man. I´m 66 and hear Def like the first time. Awesome !.
one of the greatest moments of the show, ive seen this in las vegas, brilliant tribute to steaming steve clark 🪦
Joe Elliot absolutely nailing the song.
Def leppard for ever!
Wondersful song.. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Goosebumps all over! 😢
Man, what a performance! The boys are sounding great, and it's great to finally hear Vivian Campbell's guitar loud in the mix. In so many of the concert videos I have seen Phil Collen's guitar drowns Viv's guitar out.
It's Viv's 'limited edition signature' LP Custom. He is well over due for this, I mean Gibson were SO truly embarrassing to give that kabuki clown poseur Thayer a limited edition signature years ago, WTF? Vivian is a beast of a player, he kills Phil, his vibrato since reverting back to his original LP is like SpaceAce...sublime....it's of course VERY expensive guitar, the colour Viv picked from a set of distinctive historical rocks in Ireland.
Rip my friend Steve Clark I'll never forget about you 💗 from Virginia
Same emotions when Brian May was crying while he performed Love of my life and saw Freddie on screen
The Defs have a unique style of great music that I've loved since I 1st heard Hysteria in high school
Takes me back to '87 / '88. This album had so many great singles released. I tell people my 3 favorite bands from that era are Def Leppard, Tesla and Dokken.
Great call on Dokken - Outstanding band
I’ve always wondered if Steve wanted that intro to simulate the sound of bagpipes. Just beautiful
Missing Steven Clark so much !!!!
@}~~~¥~~~~
He was the beast of the whole band. He was hot! RIP Steve. Superb song. What are we fignting? Our demons every day.
Love this song soooo much
Well done playing those drums so we’ll and playing those guitars too dudes good fantastic jobs.👍🏻 peace out✌🏻.
When Joe introduces Steve in this video, for a second I was like, "oh, he's back!"
I miss SC more than I should. So amazing.
Great band
I forgot about this one
Wow a work of art ! Such a fantastic sound love it .
The opening is so cool this band is amazing how good they are live I've seen them alot and believe you will love it
Стив Кларк мы помним тебя и скучаем по тебе и твоей гитаре, волшебный звук которой ни с чем не сравнить. Как жалко, что ты так рано ушел..
Steve era lindo! O guitarrista mais lindo do mundo!!! Morreu tao cedo, tadinho...mas jamais sera esquecido!!! 😿 🎸 💔
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Incrível, como eles conseguem soar como se estivessem no estúdio, ficou ótimo.
Def ainda é gigante, comprovem...
Awesome that's about as good as it gets Ricky Allen doesn't miss a beat
This is music!
The Backbone Of Def Leppard. Steamin Steve Clark.
⚡SublimeS⚡Los más grandesS LegenDS 🎸⭐Rock On!
Sublime, Iconic👍
Just.. WOW!
Keep Rockin Vivian!
I wonder how recording of Adrenalize must have been, specially for Phil. There must have been all these parts that Steve came up with or had demo of and Phil had to record all of them by himself trying to understand what Steve was doing without him being there and trying to come up with complimentary parts to play along with a dead person's creations. I would have been spooked!
IMO Phil always needed a Steve to temper down his aggressive style.
Phil did say during the recording of that album he basically had to become Steve.
This has so much gravity given current times. Timeless
Awesome Song.
THE BEST.
BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5:55 always reminds me of The Beatles 'She's So Heavy' from Abbey Road.
Methinks it's an obvious nod to their fellow Brit rockers.
OH. HELL. YES.
Is wondersful.. 💓💓❤️❤️
Rest in Peace, Steve. 😪
Well said
Steve was great. I think Vivian is one of those players who sounds spot on all the time like Steve Lukather.
That was an awesome tribute to Mr
Steve Clark!Hey Steve I think you're really handsome here. The opening guater seen here really did give me the goosebumps here. I really do have a crush on you.
One of my Favorite DL songs-dhoukd have been released as a single -all songs on Hysteria should have been!
Amazing song!
Oh..The Drastic Symphonies version is more refine. First time I have heard the original.❤
R.I.p
STEVE CLARK GUITAR 🎸🎵Always Def Leppard band
I miss Steve Steamin Clark so very much such a big loss
We are living with the Gods of War in this world.
Vivian had to walk in very huge Shoes when joining def leppard , and man ... steve would be damn proud !!!!!!!!!!
Most epic moment of
Their show, tribute to the fallen hero the legend mr steven maynard clark 🪦 in the lords kingdom
Real Missing Steve !
Those live guitar sounds are killer. The guitars cut right through that mix like a Samurai Blade.
Nice solo Viv, that was brilliant mate. Does ANYBODY KNOW what Viv and Phil are using for their live guitar rigs? They sound excellent.
Сильная песня. Очень сильная👍
Yes in fact maybe better than the studio version. Proves their worth guys. No more to be said
HEAVY
Rick Allen, the best one armed drummer in the Galaxy!
❤❤
I wrote a earler comme t today, and i didn't mean to say the comments on this particular post were disrespecting vi ian. There were a couple of course. I had meant to say that on other people's posts on u tube, they just will not accept that vivian is in the band now that Steve's not with them anymore. I think that on this one, there's so much love about the tribute they have done, but realize that vivian is in the band now. I should have put my comments on the ones that have done this to him. I can't find those now, but there are many. Rest in peace steve
Para mí el mejor guitarrista inglés de los año 1980 Stiven Clark abraso al cielo para ty Master on the guitar
