The American bison, also known as the buffalo, is a large mammal native to North America. They are one of the tallest animals in the world, standing up to 6 feet tall at the shoulder and weighing up to 2,000 pounds. Bison have a shaggy, dark brown coat and a hump on their back. They are herbivores, feeding on grasses and other plants. Bison were once hunted to near extinction in the late 1800s, but conservation efforts have helped to increase their population.

“Escape from predators” or trample you, and even impale you. They are dangerous also
As 2 tourists found out in Yellow National Park recently. Duh. "Let's get a picture up close, George. They are docile and don't move very fast, George. George? George? Is that you screaming, George?
Dude, it's like a car hitting you w/horns
Not to mention I don’t think many predators in North America could take a bison down, except maybe a pack of wolves
Only real predator that has a chance up there is bears. Which is unlikely if one is with the heard. Moose put up good fights sometimes
Safety tip: do not pet the fluffy cows!
Can you imagine just casually driving and seeing a bunch of bison, being terrified, but they just kinda go around you
If you're ever driving through the Rockies in Colorado you can see heards grazing in the fields alongside the highways. There's people that own lots of land and some choose to have bison rather than cows or horses. There's even an area you can go that is labeled as a bison viewing point, where you can be at a safe distance and watch them roam.
(Vegans keep scrolling) In South Africa around the south you'll see a lot of cows goats and sheep and they sell chicken alive
wichita mountains wildlife refuge, if you're driving through there you'll more than likely have to wait for a herd of either bison or longhorn to pass by
Down in Wichita refuge, there’s plenty of bison so it’s not even a case of imagining, it probably will happen
I work near Yellowstone. They get up next to the cars all the time, but as long as you keep quiet and you keep your hands to yourself you'll be fine
“The American bison…”
>starts video with footage of a European bison
That's crazy..I did not know Europe had bisons,I just searched it up 🤯 it's sad that there barely being introduced again but quite smaller than the American ones
Hes talkin about the metric system dude
@@ricardorascon88 no european bison is taller but weight less
@@igorsimac391 American bison are wider and stronger
These things are yaks just admit it
The sad truth about the American bison is that at one point they were being hunted so much that they almost went extinct. I have seen some pictures with MOUNTAINS of skulls. Honestly it is supper terrifying what humans can do
That was done deliberately in an attempt to starve the native tribes to extention. Our very own human rights violation.
Yes indeed, a complete travesty. It is true that North American Indians used to hunt Bison too, but they hunted, killed and ate only what they needed to survive - what they didn't do, is hunt them to near extinction levels - that was the white man.
@Allegator07 yeah, the early settlers tried to kill them off to starve the native indian tribes. even today, people suck. i(being 68 yrs old)would rather live in the forests or desert with animals than people!!
@davidbreen4353 we prefer indigenous, thank you :) please have a good day
This is sad. I once saw a video where a photographer born in 1960~ talked about bison herds in that time, and there were herds with more than a milion bison - you couldn't see where the herd is ending
hearing
“Easily escape from predators”
Is something I rarely hear about these beasts,
Bison will gore the crap out of any predator if given the chance.
It’s crazy, their agility and hard heads are the reason they thrive in the wild. Only the big guys have a chance of taking one down.
Not to say that they aren’t prey, but it’s pretty interesting how predator-like they can be at times.
The only animal capable of taking one of these down is maybe the North American Liger
I think the term you mean is gore or gored. Bison don't have sharp teeth or claws to maul, Though they probably look mauled after a buffalo gets through with them. 😆
Except man
I mean they do have predators but what almost all of them do is attack the young ones since they don’t really have any defense. The problem is finding them alone and getting out of the herd after you killed one of the kids
That's what I was wondering are there any big cats there or wolves that attack bison.
When I was in Yellowstone a bison got mad at a car and just stood in front of it for like 20 minutes, blocking traffic
what did they do to piss off the bison 😂
That's shorter than average around here
@@aelitastones1 You don’t need to do anything, it’s enough if you smell or sound funny to them
Cool story
I had that happen too. What year were you there
They touched my spirit when I was 5 years young . I am 70 years old and I still feel their gentle touch on my spirit.
I remember when they touched me, the doctors said my limbs would never function again. 😊
Jesus is Lord and Savior
This history of North America would not be complete without the Bison.
Finally a video that's not calling the American bison a Buffalo.
😅😅😅 um what’s the difference?

Imagine this simple fact:
It is estimated there used to be anywhere from 30 million to 50 million of these majestic animals roaming the plains of North America.
Key word: Estimated....
That's enough to feed America for more than a day! Wow!
"Easily escape from predators"
No.. Those predators are escaping from them..
Exactly😂😂

Bears
@@i7583When you weigh as much as a small sedan, have horns and razor sharp hooves backed by a 5000lb+ kick force, you don't really *need* to run. There are plenty of videos of Zebra / Antelope / Deer killing larger predators with 1 kick because of their hooves. And you see how skinny they are? Imagine that same kick from a leg 50x the weight. You might genuinely have a better chance of surviving a shotgun blast.
A bear is laughing at your comment somewhere

Wow! Someone finally called the American Bison by its proper name.
That dominant male is having more action then we will probably have for our entire lives😂🤣🤣
Yes.

Speak for yourself, I’ve done well in that area.
You would get laid as much as possible if you had an uncertain life like them.
Speak for yourself, I don't have to make myself sound like a desperate fool crying for attention. Then again I am a very rare female
When I went to Yellowstone there were a bunch of bisons crossing that we maybe had to wait 7 minutes for all of them to cross
Oh sheesh yeah I was there too
Yea when I was there there were a herd of bison just walking along the road and the traffic was insane
Before they almost wiped out it probably take hours
I think waiting for seven minutes in our cars is the least us humans can, considering what we’ve done to the American bison 🤣
‘Bison’ is singular and plural. There is NO ‘bisons.’
Seeing bison in the distance: oh cool! Pretty!
*Seeing hundreds of bison running down the road at you: 💀💀*
Ich Liebe Bisons 🥰🤍👏❤️👍💙😊
It's a damn shame that they can no longer roam their instinctual migration patterns (almost clear across the country), and be in the same numbers that they used to have!!😞
That's because there was a war fought against bison by a union of native and non native Americans, sir, not because you're part of a bison-human alliance-supporting political party with a platform about a..... Did I conclude that we need some natural born males to begin a literate intertribal court, unifying tribes of bison and those stranded units of mankind huddled together for survival on the americontinents?
It's a durn shame that we have been so occupied with the drugs & sex which infest themselves with females outside of Musical Literacy that the bison don't even have an amendable record of their history with me.
