I love videos that have data. Good job AJ. Now the question I have are whether the splitter they had in the front has any effect on those numbers. Meaning do I need to run a similar splitter to get the same sort of DF from the louvers.
Again, great video man. Love it.

I’m sure the numbers would change but you would for sure gain Df and gain cooling capacity if you ran louvers and no splitter.

Geez man! 5 hours in the wind tunnel = $10k 😮

Are these vents used on cars that can't vent directly from the radiator? Also maybe in the review video, could you talk about the strings, how you want them to act?

This is complicated: Hood vents are for lowering the pressure under the hood, to get a larger volume of cooling air through the radiator, so it either cools better, or can be of smaller area to reduce drag. As the air curls over the top of the grille, there is a natural low pressure zone, where the vent is placed. The tufts (pieces of yarn) are to measure turbulence and determine if the flow is still attached after the vent. However, the car they are testing is pretty boxy, just the transition from hood to windshield with the vipers, also creates plenty of turbulence, so does the windshield to roof transition, so I presume they are most interested in measuring the pressure difference between the front and the back of the radiator, and the tufts on the hood are just a detail.

Does the downforce created by louvers overcome the turbulence created behind them?

Boy korolyuk yes. In the video description there’s a link to head over to the race louvers page where they share the data.
