Thanks for this one, never heard it before! If you wanna dive into some Iron Maiden again check out Fear of the Dark. I'm sure Alex has heard it based on the last Iron Maiden vid you guys made. Enjoy the weekend
You guys need to react to the song “Hot Line” from the Sabbath album Born Again. This has Ian Gillan from Deep Purple on vocals. This is probably Sabbaths heaviest and dirtiest sounding album. It’s a good album.
I love it at the beginning of dye young where he says Unng! (Spelling?) right before he starts the lyrics. Not sure how you would even spell that, but if you listen you know what I mean. The other is Lady Evil, and I don't even have to mention Children of the Sea.
I was in high school when this came out. It came out in the spring of 1980, and I was so PISSED that Ozzy wasn’t in the band anymore... I wanted to hate this album!! I remember their “new” singer Dio from Rainbow and couldn’t imagine him in Sabbath... I’m a die hard Sabbath fan and this is one of their best albums!!! It STILL sends shivers in me when I listen to it.. Later, I remember right after school started in September of 1980, Ozzy released his “solo” album with, as I remember, the two guys from Uriah Heep, Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake... and the rest is history. I thank God I grew up when I did... (Back then we stood in line at the record store to buy newly released albums) lol
MrAitraining The best version is from Heaven and Hell rather than Black Sabbath. Sucks they couldn't use the BS name and that's Sharron's fault (Greedy PiG). She's also at fault for not allowing RJD to be part of Sabbath's R&R Hall of Shame induction. How much money and fame do people need?
@@AssMonkeyGaming , hey man. That's fair. A lot of it comes down to personal preference. But by any measurable vocal standards, Dio was a superior vocalist. Ozzy himself even admits that. It's a shame that you don't like him. As a person, Dio is famous for being very kind and appreciative of the fans. Every single fan interaction that I have seen about Dio has been a good one. Admittedly, I never personally had a chance to meet him before his passing. I know that from a popularity standpoint, more people like Ozzy than Dio. That's ok with me. I like Ozzy too. But Dio was just far more talented.
In 1980 i was in High School when Ronny took over for Ozzy in Black Sabbath and Brian took over for Bon in AC/DC and Bonzo died leading Led Zepplin to disband then Ozzy found Randy. The time Heaven and Hell album came out Rock and Roll was spinning like a Tornado.
I was 15 when this album came out, loved it! another great track from this album: Children of the Sea, or alternatively if you want more hard rock then: Neon Knights
I think Dio gave Sabbath a broader musical range, I saw them live a number of times during his short stint and they were incredible, one night we hung out after a gig at Newcastle on a freezing cold winter night, after about an hour and a half there was about 12 idiots freezing their balls off outside the stage door, next the doors open Dio pops his head out and says "Come on in guys," we got to spend about an hour with him and Iommi, they were both very generous and I got Dio's signature on the inner lining of my motorbike jacket.
When you ask which era of Black Sabbath i like the most, Dio or Ozzy, is like asking parents which of their child they like or prefer the most! In this case, to me.
Love your channel it’s fun to see people hearing music I have listened to all my life. I am a Maiden girl but I absolutely love Dio his voice is heaven. Just listen to Dio and Ozzy everyday and you will stay sane. I also have to agree with some of the other comments you need to explore some more Rainbow.
Just stumbled over. This is a great channel. What a kickass song, too...Dio was my first concert in 1985 when I was in 8th grade. His tenure with Black Sabbath is beyond fantastic. Bless you. You just sneezed. When you get the chance watch the live footage from this tour and the album Live Evil. RJD is a legend.
Love love love Sabbath with both dio and ozzy! But my favorite song of all time and has been since i was a kid is off the first rainbow album, Temple of the King. Loved Dio with both bands. Ozzy rates right up there in the beginning of solo career with songs like diary of a madman and mr. Crowly. Songs he did with sabbath like meglamania and hand of doom show not only his skill as a vocalist but as a lyrisist. Very profound in his writing contradicting his over the top persona. Happy to see you recognising the genious of this era of music.
Bought this the day it came out, i knew it was gonna be great because i was already a fan of Ronnie's from his stint with Rainbow... A new era dawned for Sabbath when this was released.
There is a song on the album after this (Mob Rules) that may be the best album closer I have ever heard. It's called "Over and Over" and it is an EPIC...
What a song and what an album ! First album with Dio and one of the greatest albums ever ! Interesting like AC/DC with Back in Black another greatest albums but first with a new singer and nobody thought they could move on and BOOM the both did !
I still remember the day my dad brought home "The best of Black Sabbath" CD, I quickly ran upstairs and popped it into my CD-player. It was instant eargasm. I couldn't listen to anything else for months lol. It was like every song was made for me. Thanks for reminding me of this great memory :) Keep doing what you do!

Guys, check out the Tony Martin era of Sabbath. Headless Cross. He brings another twist to Sabbath. We saw the headless Cross tour in London years ago. 5 rows from front, center stage. I caught Tony Martin's sweaty towel after the show!! No I didn't keep it!!!! Couldn't hear properly for 3 days after the show. Awesome. I've still got the tour shirt.
Black Sabbath's sound started to change even before Dio replaced Ozzy. I would suggest listening to the songs All Moving Parts Stand Still and You Won't Change Me from the album Technical Ecstasy and Johnny Blade and Juniors Eyes from the album Never Say Die.
I am 58 yrs old Love to see you young guys getting into this.I was 18 when sabbath booted Ozzy. We as guys were all disappointed. Then this Came out Holy shit ! Then the Ozzy Blizzard and on on and on . Do" Light in the black" Off Rainbow Rising. With Ronnie Dio It's awesome. Both Era's are very good but in different ways. In my humble opinion.
Great work guys how you analyzed the track. Definitely, this is grandmaster Dio! God bless his soul! Everything he ever did was just perfect! I feel blessed to have seen him perform live! Heaven & Hell is just that perhaps the greatest he ever recorded!
I came to this channel because I saw young people who were really interested in music from my youth and I was curious about your 'verdict' on that music. Whatever ban Dio was in, he influenced them quite strongly. Text because more interesting and the song became better because of that and much more because of his wonderfull strong voice. Have a listen to Rainbow albums with and without him.
you are very musically savvy. Geezer Butler did not write the bass line for this song. It was Dio who did. Kudos to you for catching on in the difference in the playing.
I too love both eras! My buddies older sister had Master Of Reality when we were 10 in '77 and we played the crap out of that 8-track! It was my first introduction to metal. Dio became my favorite of the first two, pretty quick, as I was really getting into metal when H&H first came out. I think H&H really ushered in the more '80's style of Heavy Metal for Black Sabbath!
This Whole Album KICKs Assssss ! Every song is Good ! 3 songs can be considered All time Great songs - Neon Knights , Die Young , & this one Heaven & Hell . Ozzy is Black Sabbath, , but Dio was a Great replacement - Singer , & Songwriter !!! R.I.P. Ronnie 🙏
Saw them on this tour. 1980, Black & Blue Tour, alternating headliners with Blue Oyster Cult. Sabbath headlined the night I saw them at Memorial Stadium in Seattle, in the shadow of the Space Needle. It was so loud, they forbade concerts in that stadium for years until they finally let Billy Joel play there in the early 90s. ha ha haaa That was my 2nd concert. Riot opened the show, followed by Molly Hatchet, then BOC, then the Sabbs. What an awesome day. I was 16, me and my parents were on vacay visiting family, and I was PO'd I was gonna miss BOC when they came through my town that summer. HA HA HAAAAA Had the awesome one-up on my hometown buds when I got back!! I still have the t-shirt I got at that show. It's threadbare as hell. Black with white 3/4 sleeves (like a good concert shirt should be), the front featured Satan and Godzilla battling it out with the words "HEAVY METAL ROCK" across the top. HELLS YEAH. The back pronounced the show "Summer Jam '80" and listed the bands and the two stops with dates this particular incarnation made: Salem, OR and Seattle, WA. Over time, somehow magically, the name Salem and the date faded, but the Seattle date remained. Both times I saw them was in the Dio era. Never saw them with Ozzy, though did see Ozzy solo in '84. Motley Crue opened for the Ozzman.
Ok, here is my story of the day I bought this album, one of my favorite of all time. I brought this album and Van Halen's Women and Children First home and put the Van Halen album on first, its the one with Everybody Wants Some. It was an OK album, the first Van Halen I had ever bought and it was just OK. I knew I was saving the best for last. I had cranked up the volume on my system for the first album, and maybe I turned it up Just a little for Black Sabbath. I had no idea what was about to happen. The first song on the album, Neon Knights came on and I jumped up because my walls were literally shaking and my speakers were about to explode as I quickly turned the volume back down. I'll never forget that, and if you've never heard Neon Knights before, do that, and try to remember the fool who had his volume all the up when that song almost blew his speakers.
Hey Guys, great choice. Dio isnt just an awesome singer, he is also a Performer. You should watch him Live. My personal Fave is VooDoo, then but the whole album is great. Im a fan of amazing music, so the choice between Ozzy and Dio..... is I love Black Sabbath.
HEY GUYS! How did I instinctively know the first word out of both of your mouths was gonna be, "DUDE?!" Pretty fuckin impressive little tune, huh? I can tell you both like the unexpected little Iommi surprises that happen during their songs. That is why you must hear SYMPTOM OF THE UNIVERSE off of side A of SABOTAGE.
Dio Rocks! And personally I prefer Sabbath with him. At 50, I still listen to this album at least 3 times a week. “The Mob Rules” is another favorite. Both albums are worth deep reflection, and a lifetime of enjoyment.
“Geezer was dealing with a lot of serious issues at the time,” reveals the master guitarist. “And we didn’t know whether he’d be in the right frame to record the album. In fact, Ronnie played bass when Geezer flew back to England to finalise his divorce." . It makes me wonder whether Geezer played bass on this track. The bass was quite a bit different when I saw them on tour and on the Live Evil album. It sounded a lot more Geezerish.
the Live Evil album with Heaven and Hell really blew my mind and hoocked me forever to heavy metal, back in 1982! And it's still one of my favorite songs.
"The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams - it's heaven and hell" Used this as favorite quote in my high school yearbook. I graduated the year this album came out.
“Sabotage” was a down to basics album. Sabbath at their best !! “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” is Ozzy’s best vocal sound, but very much a studio album. Tons of overdubs and keyboards and stuff... I prefer “Sabotage”
Thanks guys.....great review and the sound completely changed with Ronnie, and I hope you would review the first song on Heaven and Hell (1980) because its introducing a whole new sound of the band and it really rocks!...I mean it is up tempo and is just saying look out, here we are, and you cannot deny us.....Please review 'Neon Knights'. The way Ronnie sang it, the way Tony, Geezer and Bill played it..... just the whole vibe is stellar. I think it might be the quintessential Ronnie vocal but I may be biased because I love the beat and the melody so much....It's just the perfect starter to the short lived early 80's Ronnie era until they formed Heaven and Hell.
From 5:32 onward I always do head banging while moving around within my room as if I am delivering a stage performance ! I never could stop head banging each time I listen to this one ! First time was in sometime 1988 during my college days.
Lemme just tell you: when it comes to this album and the next, mob rules: Dio had a huge influence. He's a brilliant song-writer and musician. His voice is just divine , if you ask me.
That bass is the highlight and unifying element of this song...it's so simplistic and killer at the same time! The echo effect it gives Dio's voice when he comes in is just crushing.
Dio's sound can be found in every band he has ever been in. When RJD joined Sabbath the band needed a new sound and identity. And Ronnie wasn't going to be content singing all the old Ozzy songs. I have seen Dio several times with Sabbath/Heaven and Hell and Dio. Never a bad show always at the top of his game.
This record, as far as the strength of ALL of the tracks, and the depth of the lyrics, this album is like that first Boston record, where there is no filler...and they're all killer!! Lol This is an album that you can put on and listen to it front to back....and you should! Clearly my favorite Sabbath album. Spend the time to react to every track. You won't be sorry.
Will forever prefer the Ozzy years, especially the first six albums, but the Dio years were indeed epic in their own right. Great groove, voice - still had it all!! HIGHLY recommend a couple 'later' Ozzy Sabbath tunes - first is 'Hole In The Sky' from Sabotage, second is 'Sabra Cadabra' from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Two incredibly rocking tracks! LOVED this reaction - the whole Heaven & Hell album is fantastic.
check out black sabbath with Ian gillian on vocals...another great vocalist...for the younger generation who don't know he sang for deep purple. ..hits include " smoke on the water & highway star" check it out, .. Black Sabbath- Born Again
Hahahah, Ian Gillan hated that album so much he threw up when he heard it the first time, then threw his 25 advance copies out of a hotel window. The emotion you hear in some of the songs is "how the hell do I get outta here" no joke but funny nevertheless.
Don't you guys love how Toni Iommi can layer his solos over the bass/drum beat ? I got to see Ozzy on the Never Say Die tour (Van Halen opened) then Ronnie in the Black n Blue (Oyster Cult) tour. One of my favorite all time bands !!!
Friend, I appreciate you review of this song. At 61 yrs old, I consider myself a self-proclaimed black sabbath authority. You should listen to 'Voodoo' from the Mob Rules album. There are, of course, many other great Dio era Sabbath songs.
The cornerstone of the Dio era. Hands up, who thought Ozzy would be one of the last ones standing? I absolutely did not. Rock in peace Ronnie. Dang great song from a wonderful band.
If you’re going to replace a vocal super man like Ozzy, then replace him with another vocal super man like Dio! This is still my favourite Black Sabbath album!
Dio rocked, the band rocked and this came out when i was in high school. Yes iam old but we rocked ! There is more out there !!! Young men keep searching, rock on !!!
I like the Tony Martin era, haha 🙃😄 You would find some good gems on the album 'Headless Cross'. Tracks like "Devil & Daughter", "When Death Calls" and "Nightwing" I'm sure will catch your ear, along with those snazzy Cozy Powell drums 😊👍
Dude, I agree that Headless Cross has some real gems; DO NOT FORGET the track "Kill in the Spirit World". Iommi's solo in the middle of that song... WOW. One last thing since you like Tony Martin (as do I): Perhaps you may want to revisit the album Cross Purposes. There are some amazing tracks on that one if you give it another listen. "Hand That Rocks the Cradle", and "Immaculate Deception" probably the best two, but there are other good ones too.
It’s been a while since we checked out another Sabbath track! It was time!!! Hope you guys enjoyed the video, have a great weekend friends!! 😁😁🔥🤟🏻

”Disturbing the Priest” might be a surprising choice for them. ”Born Again” and ”Zero the Hero” are great tracks too.
A National Acrobat I agree with that. Any song off that album will be good for them to listen too.
The whole Heaven and Hell album is diamond. One most under rated song on it is Die Young, which I recommend heavily to check out!
Absolutely true man!
@Jake Fry me too
Headless Cross and Cross Purposes were the most underrated albums for many years, thankfully that's changing.
One of their BEST songs !!! Agree 100%

Do Dio era Sign of the Southern Cross! Favorite Sabbath song for me
Your on the way lads
Your gonna look back at this In years to come and laugh.
Dio Rocks! And personally I prefer Sabbath with him. At 50, I still listen to this album at least 3 times a week. “The Mob Rules” is another favorite. Both albums are worth deep reflection, and a lifetime of enjoyment.
The people love Sabbath! can't disagree
OzzY!!! But yea,... Mob rules for Dio Sabbath. Good as it gets. E5150 into Mob Rules. As classic awesomeness as it gets.
Malamute you nailed it with E5150/Mob Rules....good good stuff!
I was at both the Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules tour concert in the 80's. Still two of the best concerts ever!!!
Dio and Ozzy two different things both awesome. Heaven and Hell 10/10 all the way.
I got a first run copy of the album. Bought it the first week it was released. Wish i had a dollar for everytime ive heard the album
I can't help it, but to me Ronnie James Dio was the best rock singer ever...
You are not alone my friend
No one can touch Dio. He had such a unique and powerful timbre. His music is phenomenal.
Thats a given
Hard to argue with that. We used to say the top 3 were Halford,Bruce Dickerson, and Dio.
Both Ozzy and DIO eras great in their own right. I also love a few tracks from Ian Gillan eras BORN AGAIN (Deep Purple vocalist)
the Live Evil album with Heaven and Hell really blew my mind and hoocked me forever to heavy metal, back in 1982! And it's still one of my favorite songs.
Geezers bass is so technical & pure bliss. the whole band is functioning at highest of skills on this track. Perfection
I have listened to the Heaven and Hell album thousands of times and neve got bored of it. Both eras were so different but both so good.
"The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams - it's heaven and hell" Used this as favorite quote in my high school yearbook. I graduated the year this album came out.
Yes do the whole album. you will not be disappointed !
I absolutely love that little outro on this song 😌
So pissed off that you never checked out the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath album. But hey there’s still time for that.
Yes. Then Sabotage! On "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" you'll hear the start of these changes. Maturity.
Sabatage
Thank You for that. Just got home from work. Perfect Song. 🚬🍻😁
From 5:32 onward I always do head banging while moving around within my room as if I am delivering a stage performance ! I never could stop head banging each time I listen to this one ! First time was in sometime 1988 during my college days.
Want more powerful Dio-era Sabbath, try E5150/Mob Rules and Sign of the Southern Cross.
I second Mob rules
Yes! Mob Rules!
De Humanizer is another under rated B.Sabbath with dio singing....Love the song I,I,I
I love all Tony's phrasing on this album. Not just the solos, but all the fills between the vocal lines. Bass lines are great on this album too.
Sabbath had the perfect balance of in your face and subtle atmospheric nuances.
Lemme just tell you: when it comes to this album and the next, mob rules: Dio had a huge influence. He's a brilliant song-writer and musician. His voice is just divine , if you ask me.
So glad to see you guys appreciate great music! I'm older than you guys, and great to see you guys enjoy some of the masters!
Tony Iommi was once asked how do you and Ronnie James Dio write songs? He said we meet halfway
LOVED this reaction - the whole Heaven & Hell album is fantastic.
check out black sabbath with Ian gillian on vocals...another great vocalist...for the younger generation who don't know he sang for deep purple. ..hits include " smoke on the water & highway star"
check it out, ..
Black Sabbath- Born Again
Yeah. Check out Highway Star!
Hahahah, Ian Gillan hated that album so much he threw up when he heard it the first time, then threw his 25 advance copies out of a hotel window. The emotion you hear in some of the songs is "how the hell do I get outta here" no joke but funny nevertheless.
Awesome tune - I remember seeing this song live on their Born Again tour in '83!
At 61 yrs old, I consider myself a self-proclaimed black sabbath
authority. You should listen to 'Voodoo' from the Mob Rules album. There are, of course, many other great
Dio era Sabbath songs.
Every song on this record is a diamond
The cornerstone of the Dio era. Hands up, who thought Ozzy would be one of the last ones standing? I absolutely did not. Rock in peace Ronnie. Dang great song from a wonderful band.
Ozzy is like Keith Richards. They're both already embalmed.
Absolute fire!
I love both eras, there is magic in both, i would never be able to choose one over the other.
I love to see the music through young eyes and how you react. And yes, there was a new depth to Sabbath when Dio joined.
If you’re going to replace a vocal super man like Ozzy, then replace him with another vocal super man like Dio! This is still my favourite Black Sabbath album!
A b s o l u t e l y ! And ( Found him ) ! : ) Hard to believe that !
Dio rocked, the band rocked and this came out when i was in high school. Yes iam old but we rocked ! There is more out there !!! Young men keep searching, rock on !!!
Mob rules guy brilliant is the only word I can say for that whole album
I like the Tony Martin era, haha 🙃😄 You would find some good gems on the album 'Headless Cross'. Tracks like "Devil & Daughter", "When Death Calls" and "Nightwing" I'm sure will catch your ear, along with those snazzy Cozy Powell drums 😊👍
”Headless Cross” is a solid Sabbath album. Love ”When Death Calls”, ”Kill in the Spirit World” and ”Nightwing”. RIP Cozy and Geoff.
It was about time Black Sabbath ! Check out Die Young from the same album Heaven and hell !
Die Young is a banger, for sure.
