Knipex Cutix! Best Utility Knife there is?

  • The Knipex Cutix is a knife that is continuing to surprise me with its great features such as the blade stiffener and its ability to not only to that but also provide a nicer point of contact for ones finger when really needing to get in there and scrape something firmly. I’m still a big fan of the Tajima knife but this one is really growing on me and it doesn’t hurt that it comes with Tajima blades!

    I got my Knipex knife for Christmas, and I love it! I carry a utility knife in all of my boxes, and the Knipex immediately found a spot in my main everyday carry. Super soild, seemingly perfect design. I plan on replacing the rest when i can afford it. Also, I love those Tajima blades. I’ve been using Olfa for a while, but I was BLOWN AWAY by the Tajima blades - not only are they super sharp, but they seem to last forever! They just keep going!

    I finally got a Knipex CutiX knife. Excellent. However mine came with Lutz blades which makes sense that Knipex would partner with a German knife blade maker. They are still black coated, however. Had to jump back to this video to make sure I didn't miss any features on this next-level utility knife. Thanks again.

      @@MillisConstruction So far it is leaps and bounds above other similar type knives. At first I was worried about how slippery the sides were, then it occurred to me that perhaps I should not be holding along those edges and use a proper grip. The spine feature is what knocks my socks off. I find it hard to imagine that humans were smart enough to invent that! Overall it is worth the price if a utility knife is to be used across many jobs. For occasional use with nothing specific, it's probably a luxury item.

    I don't really like the snap-off style blades so tend to stick to a standard utility knife for my work. Snap-off blades are okay for light duty work, but I usually break them when working with cabling.

    • @MillisConstruction

      Personally I prefer the folding style like the Fiskars or Lenox Gold ones that I use a lot. Just a lot smaller in the pocket too and the blades don’t snap off.
      These type I keep in my bags since they’re so much bigger

      I saw that yesterday but since there wasn’t much on that model, I bought the 16” Cobras, which are great. How does Tajima compare to OLFA? As the inventor of the snap-off knife. I have been very impressed with the performance and choice available with OLFA blades and knives.
    Ultimate utility knife? Knipex has a nice idea with the blade support frame. The frame you say is magnesium. What about the fasteners? Stainless, brass, steel with white zinc plating? The other question. Will Knipex release a ratchet wheel version? Click style is okay for fast tasks. For heavy duty cutting and precision. I really prefer the ratchet wheel. Being able to lock it down so I don't inadvertently disengage or extend the blade during some tasks is important for overall safety to me.
    Not that I am ever without my pliers. Needing pliers to remove a worn blade is rediculous. Toolless blade change is paramount for maximum accessibility. That is one of the biggest wastes of time for some of my favorite utility knife frames. Blade changing. If you need a screw driver for each blade change. It gets tedious on jobs that eat blades up.

    • @MillisConstruction
      @MillisConstruction  2 роки тому

      I have several Olfa knives but I’ve not found one I really like. I’m pretty attached to the Tajima knife personally even a bit over the Knipex. I agree I won’t buy a knife with a screw to change the blade at all.
      I’ve changed the Knipex several times with my fingers only but I’m not doing that on UA-cam lol. Safety police would be on me forever. Plus I live with the small pliers wrench on me every day so it’s just easy to do it that way.
      Is there an olfa you recommend in particular? (I do not like ratchet wheel designs for any of the work I do)

    • @mackjones7688
      @mackjones7688 2 роки тому

      @@MillisConstruction Well I usually recommend people buy whatever brand they prefer with the features they like. I decided to give OLFA a try with an impulse purchase after my Dewalt snap-off knife broke. The plastic click mechanism was broken off just by shuffling around in my tool bag. Now I have about 4 Olfa knives of different sizes and types. I am especially pleased with my glass scraper purchase.
      Having a razor scraper with stainless steel blades, which also carrys the blades on board. This has been a game changer for me. The tool can get dirty and I can clean it with soap and water. I no longer have to worry about the tool getting rusty or filled with debris from scraping nasty filth off equipment at work. The prices are reasonable and the blades are readily available at Lowes.
      I am always looking to upgrade my arsenal so I would consider Tajima if I saw something I like from their product line.
      That said I recommend these OLFA knives. I own them and I am pleased with their build quality, features, and performance.

    Great video, but IMHO a *HORRIBLE* knife. The extendible blade spine is an amazing feature, but changing blades is nearly impossible to do safely without using pliers (as you did) or disassembling the knife. It's sort of shocking that a design team that could come up with a really innovative improvement like the extendible spine couldn't design a blade release that actually works and doesn't require either tools or disassembly to avoid big safety risks handling the old and new blades.
