Cacophony of colour. Way to describe it. As for your pack arrangements, necessity is the mother of invention. Chief - Mosquitos, because, why not. That one cracked me up. I love that with all this cold and rain you are still determined to get this done. Dipper!!! No Walking With Purpose? Seen then at all in Washington? As for the views, I thought they were just lush, green and beautiful. I have so enjoyed this episode so much even though I'm 5 days late to the party. Really love your Glaciation one liners too. Keep them coming ladies. Love the videos.
It was so nice that you could transform the difficulty into the delight of hiking with your daughter. A heartfelt salute to your departed cousins who give you strength.
A cacophony of color; incongruous & chaotic. A description of your current plight. Your long hauls are beyond incredible as you endure and ride the wings of Julie, Doug and your virtual trail family. Blessings along your journey.
"..I'm going to hike with my kid in the rain.." I love you guys!!! What a great attitude you have. ... And then the sun reappeared!!! When all looks bleak, better times almost always lie ahead.
Hi...it was great bumping into you folks today on the PCT...my kiddo got a huge thrill meeting yall. Hope you enjoyed the Kendall Katwalk views. Good Luck the rest of the way!
So sad that the rain and clouds obscured your view of Mt. Rainier, but we Washingtonians celebrated the rain because of all the fires. Please do come back the Mt. is beyond beautiful! And the hike from Chinook to White (or White to Chinook) lets you see all three mountains (Adams, Helens and Rainier) in one view. SO BEAUTIFUL! But hope the rain puts the fires out!
So glad you got some 🌞. I was worried that you were done. Dry a little and keep on trekking. You two are entertaining. You make me want to get out and hike.
Washington, Washington. When I do the trail (hopefully next. year) and get to Washington I'll probs cry like a baby because its my home...but be darn mad if it shows its true nature of the weather you had (although I have been in Goat Rocks in all its gorgeousness), sorry for that weather. And your dedication reminder, I'll take hiking with my daughter in the rain....beautiful beautiful. Forward!!
Halo, you just may want to register that pack hack with the US Patent Office. That was next-level in the field problem solving. Wouldn’t be surprised if R&D somewhere doesn’t already have this “enhancement” up on CAD.
Ladies, my hat is off to you both. Washington can be wet, sometimes for days. I admire and respect how you remain positive and carry on in good style. That is the most important attribute of hikers. You are the real thing.
Wow you ladies are incredible. I can only imagine the conversations off camera. That weather looked miserable. Bummer about Goat Rocks but even what you could see still looked gorgeous. I hope the rest of the trip gets better. You ladies are tough and deserve more then an awesome ending to what should have been one of the best stretches of the PCT. Best of luck through the end and Washington will likely be the most memorable section of your hike and just think you will soon be laughing and telling stories of how you overcame such crazy situations. Hike on!!!
Now that the rain is gone we ready for another NW heat wave. Yep rain, overcast or heat. Welcome to Washington. But I love my home state and the glorious hiking it has. Be sure to come back for the Goat Rocks in good weather. I’m sorry it was a bummer for you. And apply for a Wonderland Trail permit to hike around Mt. Rainier on the same trip. Be careful and enjoy the rest of your hike. By the way, the Canadian border is now open. FYI don’t camp at Hopkins Lake in the north cascades. The skeeters are as big as hummingbirds.
So happy to see your video but sad that I won't run into you. I am going SOBO section J starting on the 19th but you will be long gone by then. So sad that you had smoke in Goat Rocks
Thanks for sharing your real feelings and emotions. So many people romanticize thru hiking. It’s seldom romantic, but it’s always a challenge. And also great job bringing it back with gratitude. Y’all are my heroes right now. I truly wish I was there. Now go get that new pack!!! 🏕
Beautiful trek! You ladies are such troopers, driven, and are an amazing team! Sorry our state is giving you bugs, cloudy skies, and smoke right now! You must come back and at least enjoy Rainier! It's a wonderful place to hike in general and the views really are gorgeous! Love how you did your pack hack Halo! You have inspired me to explore more section hikes on the PCT! Keep telling your stories! P.S. I met Abby and Alex on the trail too!
8:20 I am WA state born and raised. I almost always literally laugh out when I hear someone say "waterproof". I sincerely think companies should be barred from using this phrase in their marketing. It's dangerous. Strong legs ladies!
Ladies, I feel ya on the rain. Hiked up at Killeen Creek Saturday and left. Too much rain. My friend dudley is sobo. You should be seeing him soon. Older gentleman hiking with two people from Mexico and Ireland I think. Glad the sun will be out. Hey Dipper!
Looks like you’re catching up to the Wander Women (they hit Stevens Pass 8/12) - would be cool to see if you meet them! I’m a big fan of both your vlogs!
So- as I have heard the end can be toughest for a variety of reasons… as a dead head - I always appreciated the idea of ‘I need a miracle everyday’ to get u thru challenging times… it’s the same sort of sentiment as ‘the trail will provide’ - appreciated the ‘digging’ into the well of your cousins to get u thru… be well… 3 more vids to go! Question- if you could hike a section again (3-5 days) what would it be/what was your favorite?
There is no cold like in WA, I know. I’ve lived it. Temperature wise it doesn’t look cold but it’s bone chilling cold. That damp cold 🥶 is really bad. Hope you have some hot cocoa or something hot to warm your hands and torsos. I hope you get nothing but wonderfulness from here on out. You have earned it. I’m so sorry you missed all the southern to central WA beauty. But you don’t live that far away. You can return. WA is just so bipolar. I’ve been hiking up there in days where it was warm and sunny then rainy then hail then dumping snow. All in one glorious day. So keep up the good work. You are almost done.
Wow! You gals are still going strong! I remember meeting you at Hikertown. Had to have a surgery with long recovery which ended my hike this year. Hope to catch up on all your episodes when I recover.
So glad you figured something out with your pack. I'd love to hear how that marvelous idea came to you. Have you guys used ponchos as your go to for your rain gear? Cute, warm, cabin. You both are doing amazing. Keep trekking. 😀
We used the ponchos the whole way! 8$ on Amazon. Replaces rain gear, pack cover and ground sheet! I got the idea because I know gossamer gear packs use a camp pad as part of the pack structure so it made me wonder if I could use an inflatable to do the same. It works great!!!
As you say, it could be worse. Most people get caught in the snow in upper Washington. Talk about wet and cold....anyway, you guys have a good attitude. Thanks for the video.
Attitude is everything! Hoping for sunshine and rainbows as you make your way to a spectacular finish! Way to go ladies!! P.S. have you ran into the wander women yet? Seems like you're in the same neighborhood but hard to tell with video delay.
Ok so can I say you are a hiking engineer genius cuz I was crying inside for you to have to hike all that way with a pack that is so incredibly uncomfortable. Osprey are such a great company. Also CNOC out of Portland. They sent me free of charge a simple fix for my old but awesome CNOC poles. You don’t need to take photos at the Cracker Barrel store that is not a restaurant. Don’t you just love how WA is so bipolar? Three days of rain mean you might get some good views once you hit the northern cascades. Which are gorgeous if you can get views of the alpine lakes and flowers and WA alps. I’m glad you are staying dry cuz that totally stinks if you can’t dry out. I’m bummed you didn’t get a view of Mt Rainier cuz it’s so spectacular when you can get a sunny day. But I’m glad you didn’t get wind tunnel blasting winds in goat rocks like so many before you. You guys are my inspiration. Rah rah.
Awwwww......very sorry “my state” has been miserable for you guys. I see the rain went further north of where I live- we only got light showers for half a day. Goat Rocks snd Mt Rainier is so beautiful- sorry the smoke and rain caused you to miss out on enjoying those areas
OK half way thru the video you were showing your bowls of food then the camera panned to the left and I saw a bigfoot or perhaps it was a little foot or maybe it was just a mistletoe! :)
@@hrconthepct2724 That was me poking fun at your Christmas toe! Big foot little foot mistletoe! You gals are getting close! :) Stay safe keep bringing the fun!
Advice about ponchos needed. As you were in the WA rain I was doing an overnight loop hike at Snoqualmie pass to test out my rain gear (on purpose!!!). I used a Fogg toggs jacket and 6 moons designs umbrella but found I was just as wet on inside from sweat! What type of Poncho do you have and would you recommend over a jacket??? Thanks
I DO recommend the poncho as it covers you AND pack and has ventilation out the sides. 8$ on Amazon. Anyoo poncho we also use mine as our ground sheet!

True story!
Hi...it was great bumping into you folks today on the PCT...my kiddo got a huge thrill meeting yall. Hope you enjoyed the Kendall Katwalk views. Good Luck the rest of the way!
Nice meeting you too!
I'm going to hike in the rain with my kid and be grateful. ❤ this!
You two are the bomb!
Nice improvisation (improvise, adapt, overcome!) with the pack! - Hang in there, you guys are almost there! Incredible journey.
You Ladies are bad ass! Keep charging!
So sad that the rain and clouds obscured your view of Mt. Rainier, but we Washingtonians celebrated the rain because of all the fires. Please do come back the Mt. is beyond beautiful! The rain HAD to help the fire situation...

Halo and Chief - Both of you are tough as nails. Extremely impressive. Halo - great pack hack!!!
Thanks! I was wicked proud...😍
Halo, you just may want to register that pack hack with the US Patent Office. That was next-level in the field problem solving. Wouldn’t be surprised if R&D somewhere doesn’t already have this “enhancement” up on CAD.
I’m trademarking now!!
Carry on intrepid trekkers! After Labor Day cooler, but much less insects and probably, rain.
Keep turning those negatives into positives!! Love watching you guys

Northern WA is amazing!!!
One German gal used full body mosquito mesh netting..legs, arms, head.. she just kept going...Anyone remember "Little Bee"...
So cool!!
Ok, my eyes are leaking, Im so glad this ended on a higher note. Hang in there and may the sun shine all the way to Canada 🌞
Oh wow this is such beautiful scenery!! Great job!
This is by far my favorite pct hike of 2021, well done girls😀
Thanks so much!

Hey, it's Dipper! If you see him again, tell him Pony says hi. We hung out at Kennedy Meadows South.
He says hi back!
Well done guys 🖖

@ 22:45 ...Chief reminds me of a Vermeer painting... just missing a pearl earring ;-D
...and thumbs up for the turning lemons into lemonade :-)
You’re the second person to say that!!
Oh man, can’t imagine how tough that was! Glad you guys are safe and drying out!

Nice to see you two embracing the suck. ✌️👊

I need a miracle EVERY DAY! I have sung that on trail! If I could do a 3-5 day I would do Trinity Alps, 3 Sisters or Stevens to Stehekin I think....
My tub pumpkin magic worked. Huzzah!
