Willem, you're a really incredible interviewer. I know you did some podcasts with various other photographers but this as a video worked so well. Would be so keen to see more photographers talk with you about their photo books and other projects they're working on. It's also really nice to see work from different areas of the world whilst stuck in lock down 💞 thank you dude
it's so cool to me that she has a story behind why she chooses to shoot etherial night-time. I feel like a lot of photographers right now are making it cool to have subject matter that is vacant & lonely with some neon but she has a genuine story that adds to imagery to make it so much more special
Great to see a new upload from you. Love when you feature others, you always treat it with as much respect (if not more) as your own work and you always choose interesting subjects. This book sounds fascinating and those images were wonderful.
Thank you Willem for introducing Maria to me/us! I looove the mysterious style and feeling of the photos you showed us! Really enjoyed listening to the conversation :)🙌🏼
Just bought my first 110 camera, I’m so excited, your a really big inspiration! I do have a couple of 35mm cameras, mostly canon, but I’m excited to try something new! But these videos are amazing!
You know it's got to feel pretty flattering when one of your photos get chosen to be the cover of a music album. The photo at 2:09 in the interview is the cover of an album called "The Universal Want" by a rock band called Doves. Both Maria's work and Doves music are highly recommend by me.
Such a great interview man! Super interesting to see this as I'm currently shooting a little project about a tiny town right next to the one Maria shot hers at
Love this project! Very interesting to get to know the featured photographers, which are so different in their art and approach! I really appreciate that you showcase other artists. Sometimes people are in fear to do that or are too selfcentered to consider it. Keep on the great work, Willem!
Loved the interview but I wish you could have ask some questions about the design process of the book, the difficulties she has to overcome from a technical point and some aesthetic choices. Stuff like that ✌️
Looks like home. I'm in Oregon. The wooded parts outside the city get dark and foggy and there isn't much to see when the sun goes down. Just blind curves and the very occasional last chance gas station in the middle of nowhere. The mist rolling down from the mountain tops, rolling over the road like a funeral shroud til you can't see ten yards without fog lights. And even on clear nights you never know if that truck tailgaiting you is just trying to pass or if they're following you. You never know when a large animal might walk right in front of you. And if you take a curve too fast and eat shit, you're gone into the night and it might be years before they find you.
Might be the coolest name of a photo book I've ever heard.
Yup!
It is
@Luke Caldwell or a song

Seconding this. His podcast series was absolutely great and filled a nice space in the medium
🔥🔥🔥
agreed.
I was thinking the same. Willem is so down to earth when talking with people. I liked the different feel to this video.

Wow! Photos are actually felt like taken from David Lynch’s movies. Incredible work!
Love the design of the book. Real beautiful storytelling as well
I was having an argument with someone, I got the oatmeal boi Notificaton and walked away to watch #oatmealgang

Man's got interview skills
She sounds so Irish at times
most likely Irish flatmates. i remember in the span of a couple of years at uni Greek Jason slowly but surely became Greek-Irish Jason lol
Was just thinking "huh so if a Finnish person moves to London...they sound Irish"
Her work is fantastic! I may have just bought her book. 🤭
Never been so early! Love Maria's work!

DUDE, such an insightful interview 😮😮 love it, thanks for sharing
Willem : “I hate to describe work as cinematic.” 😂😂😂
it’s such an overused word that it’s become cringe.
I was really missing the photo talks. Her book is so cool.
I love photo books, and this one I'll be adding to my collection!
Just placed my order for a copy. UFO lore, photography, northern Finland and long nights. What could be better?
Vintage Photographer totally agree. I love night photography, I’m sure northern Finland would be amazing

What an interesting project and the design of the book is so tasty. Especially the hand scrawled notes and the taped-in photos. Really nice.

Love the sciFi feel in those photos !
A Finn living in the Uk speaking with an Irish accent
Finnish + Years of living in the UK
would make sense
I’ve learned that a good photograph seems like it’s out of this world

Really awesome work, thanks for sharing ;)
Loved the interview but I wish you could have ask some questions about the design process of the book, the difficulties she has to overcome from a technical point and some aesthetic choices. Stuff like that ✌️

This video is great! Found it super interesting how the pentagon just released UFO videos pretty much saying they are real!
5 seconds into the video and I’m like “wow this haircut is everything!”
Lovely images. Are photography fans mostly using instagram to follow artists, or is there a better platform?
This was a great video. I wonder if you think about doing more interviews on your podcast? (After covid of course)
Incredibly cinematic! Where I can I buy the LUT? Do I also need Bokeh?
that was amazing!
Hell yes. Fire 👏🏾🔥
duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude, great questions.
Great content!
The image at 2:09 is the cover of the new Doves LP
