Best half round bass string comparison on UA-cam . Love the half rounds

I can tell anyone interested that the half rounds do have a bit of a break in period. I have been able to shorten the break in period by doing the following. When I first take them out and before putting them on the bass, I run a piece of fine steel wool up and down the string a few times and then wipe it down with an oily rag. This smooths the strings down a bit and the oil will loosen them up. They will still need a week to ten days of breaking in before they settle in. After that they sound great and will last much longer than rounds. Not sure if they will have the long life of flats but they are still sounding good after a couple of years. Hope this helps.

I use GHS Pressurewounds - albeit more expensive, I think they're a perfect string.
I actually do similar to you - I pull them out of the pkg, run a 3m Scotchbrite pad up and down them a few times, then wipe with a clean rag of Varsol (it has natural oils in it)..let it dry out a bit - then hit it with a clean rag and install. It minimizes the sticky feel of the new string and, to me, makes them feel close to broken in.

You are seriously an international treasure for the bass world. Personally I don't like the sound of half rounds, but I'm sure they have their place.

i'm just curious if the Squier has done them honor enough :)
i can perceive the difference between the two sets and the fuller sound of the rounds when lower strings are thicker, but no full sound on the upper ones.

Great compartment! I only wish D'Adario made the half-rounds in 45-65-85 105 gauge.

Love the half rounds, I use them on my main bass and they do provide a warmer tone while sounding ok with classic rock

I agree, they do feel weird. I can't really get into them. Although, these are all my buddy strings his early 90's Stingray with and that bass makes a perfect Stingray tone.

I think my favorite sound was the Quarter Pounder and Half Round played with a pick. The finger style was a close second though. Great video.

how the hell do those 1 year old strings sound that bright? If I kept strings that long they would be as dead as they could.

I haven't used them very much to be honest, so they do retain some of their brightness

    Hi! I just subscribed today.
How should Half Round sound in a Warwick Fretless Corvette Standard?
I would like to hear the sustain when the portamento is played.

ProSteels exactly are 1 year old? Or 1 day? 😳

Yep, one year and one month old. I used them in the video "One bass five bridges" the first time

Unbelievable!😳 Are you play with this set constantly for one year, or put them on bass and pull off occasionaly? In my hands, pro steels lasts 5-6 weeks maximum, after this time they start sounding dull and muddy...

Is the bass knob on your amplifier broken?! The pick, the excessive mids, and the highs made that bass sound like an Acoustic guitar! In a band setting a pair of matacas would drown out that sound

There's no EQ, it's just the sound of new strings
