A heartfelt film.... We all need a wake up call to unearth those painful things we buried so deep, yet they still affect us way into the future.... Let go, GOD has got this.... Lean on HIM, for He Cares about you
Amazing resemblance of Father John actor to Robert Redford...related? Beautifully directed film. Appreciated the appropriate sound track and sang all the parts to Dona Nobis Pacem ( felt as if I were 16 again, singing around our Methodist-Episcopal church campfire...yes, we sang Latin all the time. More cultured congregation then.) A great Christmas story.
I absolutely love this movie. It is so refreshing and unlike any other Christmas movie I've ever seen. This movie was excellently written, regardless of the comments regarding "authenticity" and is full to the brim with exceptional actors and actresses! Regarding some comments left on almost every Christmas movie I have seen on YT, I get so tired of religious people who think it's okay to defend their religions authenticity but condemn others and give their opinion on how those religions are or aren't, like they are experts in all religions. It's people like that who drive people further from the church instead of drawing them closer. Hypocrites judge. Jesus loves.
I thought this was a very nice movie. Some soul searching went on. And I found it intriguing that : 1) one character looks enough like Robert Redford to be his son and 2) it is filmed on Cape Cod, a place near and dear to my heart although I could not figure out where for all that I know Cape Cod well. Well worth watching and thanks for down loading it.😊
This is a great movie. I didn't think I'd enjoy it, but it came on after another one, and I just continued to watch it. I'm glad I did. It's very different, not the usual festive film, quite edgy and dark in places, a bit like real life. Yep, really good, even though I kept thinking how much like a young Robert Redford the main character is!
Each one of us has a God-given destiny, He planned for YOU!...when we accept our life's work, our life changes totally, and we can live out God's plan to bless others, not our own... God bless each one of you, and Merry Christmas/Joyeux Noel, 2024 (from France)
Thank you! God Bless you too! I didn't hear anyone called Noelle in the movie. Perhaps it would have been the Father's unborn child's name or the child he became a father to? Merry Christmas/Yule/Joyeux Noel, Christmas day from America.
If you noticed how much the 'ghost' child looks like 'John Keene' (David Wall), it's because she is his real life daughter, Brennan Wall. 'Marjory' is actually his real life wife Kerry Wall, and the actor who plays 'Simeon' is Sean Patrick Brennan, who Brennan Wall was named after..definitely keeping it all in the family!
I love this film; a dual meditation on the topic of what it means to love, as well as what it means to be a priest. You should make a playlist of the soundtrack for the film-- I can't find a single thing from it on youtube; not any of the jazz piano pieces, nor the charming folk song at the end!
There might be some similarities - but Robert Redford is simply unique and not to compare with anybody else. Never mind and wishing you all a Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎆🎇🧨🧨✨ ✨
Very good movie. Good acting, good believable story line. Most people have faith struggles a some point in their lives, even those in the religious life. I found the towns people very funny trying to do the Xmas play.
We need to pray for priests n religious. Vow of celibacy is not for everyone but a grace given to His chosen, a treasure in an earthen vessel preserved through praying constantly, living in His presence 24 x 7

In a few lines, Father Keene came to close down a parish. From the events that happended he fiinally didn't,. and his vision of the little girl (the baby he didn't want to have years ago) disappeared as soon as he accepted the other baby. He also left the priesthood - and had a new family with Marjorie, the baby's mom.
Gosh... he looks so much like a young Robert Redford! People save people, love and care for them... God is in YOU.
I am so sad that your experience of Catholicism and the priesthood has been so disappointing. I love being Catholic, and I know so many good and devout priests who love the Lord, believe what they profess, and love their vocation.

I’ve watched this movie over and over since seeing right before Christmas. There is a haunting truth in each of the main characters about just how flawed we each are. There are layers of lessons, hard lesson, buried in this film. The tiny baby struggling for breath just to survive really hit me. It was a perfect metaphor for her trying to survive her narrow escape from having no childhood at all. Her mother in the film played her role so well. She really was a Mary type in a deeper sense.
