  • The Carretera Austral runs for 1,240 kilometers (770 mi) passing through rural Patagonia. This episode covers the Northern half of the route (the first half was in the last episode). The scenery gets even greener and I encounter Volcanoes, Mudslides, and even a Pudu (The worlds smallest deer). Because of the incredible scenery the Carretera Austral is widely regarded as one of the the world's best roadtrips. It is also on the short list of places to ride for nearly every avid cyclist. At the end of my time on the route I would opt to cycle to the village of Cochamo rather then take a ferry and ride a short paved section to Puerto Mont. The next episode in the series will find us on our way to Cochamo for some hiking in what has been called the Yosemite Valley of South America.

    This is Episode 11 of "The Journey North Series." The previous episode was my start along this route and can be found here: • Bikepacking the WORLD'...

    Ahhhhhh....what a beautiful world we live in, despite its sham, drudgery and broken dreams. Thank you for taking us on a ride. Travel creates room for serendipity so finding the "mom's and pop's" street delicacies is one of its rewards. Much respect. Pura Vida!

    The plane is an old C-47, I would get so fat on those Empenadas lol.

      Nice, I think the plane also may have been previously used as a house but maybe those days are over as well. Also the nice thing about bike travel is one doesn't have to worry about over eating! 😅

    Thank you so much for sharing your trip! You might want to try using a custom LUT to color grade your video. There are plenty of UA-cam videos explaining how to do it. It will bring your videos to the next level.

    Nice work, I really enjoyed this. I rode the Carretera back in 2017, and I will hopefully ride it again next year. It was fun seeing so many places I recognized! Next time I think I'm going to take my tenkara rod and try and catch some fish like you did.

    • @KarlKroll
      @KarlKroll  3 роки тому

      Go for it! the fishing is pretty spectacular! Hopefully travel restrictions start easing up to make the trip possible. Best of luck!

    You still keep the original fork? (the 2015 el mariachi came with a RockShox Recon Gold TK - Solo Air 100 mm, (9mm QR, (1-1/8, 29 - Inch). Protecting the stanchions that way was a great idea! I can't wait for the next video! Watching Kazakhstan for the fourth time in the meanwhile. Saludos!

    • @KarlKroll
      @KarlKroll  3 роки тому

      Yes, still running the original fork although it has been rebuilt a few times, and early forks had protection so I dont know why they have stopped making coverings on the majority that I see. Saludos! Enjoy!

    Buying local food gives money to the local economy so that's good. It varies your food resources. Chile like most of South America seems like the wild west to me. A long time ago in another life I did training in the jungles of Guyana and Guatamala, bad places to get things wrong. Adios.

    • @KarlKroll
      @KarlKroll  3 роки тому

      I 100% agree! my comment was that I was carrying too much food already 🤣 - The jungle is a place where I don't quite feel comfortable yet! Something to work on

    The Captain General Augusto Pinochet is only a controversial figure for communists and socialists. Without Pinochet, Chile would been ruled by the Commie Party (indirectly by the Soviet Union/ Warsaw Pact). His government was necessary and when he lost the Referendum, he gave the power (no dictator makes that). Great video BTW!
