I've used the same kit, but with the soft-open and soft-close feature for the top rollers. It makes a big difference. But the installation was the exact same. Nice job!
Thanks, a soft close option would be really nice these things to tend to slam shut
Would have been nice to use a soft close and soft open kit for the pocket door. It makes an amazing big difference.
That’s would be nice
@@hausplans I've installed soft close and soft open pocket door. It slides so smooth.
in a2x6 wall, throw the uprights away, and just use studs on flat
They come a long way since the 80s. I guess different manufacturers
In the video when you're attaching the furring strips, I noticed you were driving the screws in at an angle. Why?
If I went straight and they were too long and would hit the metal
This is a pain in the ass with the door in after drywall. Im experiencing it now.
Agreed. Scratching my head looking at how simply they should slide in and lock but no, not happening.
What issues are you having? I've installed many pocket doors. I've also repaired many. I do a lot of restoration work on 100+ year old houses and buildings with pocket doors.
@@jmackinjersey1 my builder put in a door that is one inch wider than the opening. Is there any way to change the door without ripping out the drywall?
Love pocket doors
👍
Hate pocket doors
Why?
@@jmackinjersey1 they are not traditional doors and depending on the application, they look so different and stealthy.
I have a question. How would you adjust after the house starts settling?
This kit has a little wrench you can use to adjust the door up and down on the right or left side. Not sure though for your situation depending on how the kit was made
As he stated, there are adjustment bolts or nuts, depending on manufacturer, that you simply turn one direction or the other to move each side of the slab up or down.
You typically need to remove the top piece of trim. Depending on when and how the frame and trim were installed will determine how many pieces need to be removed. However, I have seen some that had enough room to make the adjustment without removing anything, but there was some minor damage to the wood that was repaired after. Meaning that the slab was hanging down enough (actually too much) and it allowed me to get a screwdriver in the gap at the top to turn the adjustment.
I just did some repairs/maintenance to one in a house that is over 100 years old. I had to remove the trim. Unfortunately the hangers on the top of the slab were installed improperly, but I still made it work put in the end. I couldn't make any videos because it took long enough without the extra bs involved in recording. But I may be able to make a simple follow-up video amd post it to my YT account.
Ha ha. You forgot to mention NOT to use regular sized drywall screws on those installed furring strips. It’s the most common error made installing pocket doors. You have to use 1” screws not 1 1/4”. Or you destroy the door the first time it closes. 🫤
Same with the baseboard trim nails.
Yes! My pocket door paint has a big long scratch and I may have to try to get inside there some day with a file,
I want a pocket door, but anywhere I could put one has electric or gas through it.
How do you know what size door to hang? Should it be just the size of the opening? Or can it be 1-2” wider?
Pick the size door you want first then build the frame to match. There’s marking on this kit to show you were to cut it for every size door. Also, this kit comes with a great set of directions with easy to follow pictures.👍
What brand is this pocket door kit?
Johnson
Question, how to install 2 pocket doors side by side, that mirror open?
We’ve done that before. It’s a similar process the directions show you how. It’s basically just two of these kits.
In the unlikely scenario that the track need to be replaced…what you do you do?
You have to tear the drywall off one of the sides to get to it
Are pocket doors available for 2x6 walls? Can pocket doors be used on a fire rated wall? Can pocket doors be used as an exterior door?
Yes, they make pocket door kits for 2 x 6 walls but they weren’t available so I modified this one to work. I don’t think I pocket door kit could work for a firewall, unless it was specifically designed for that.
Yes, kits are available for 2x6 walls. Not fire rated that I know of. This type are not really suitable for exterior doors because they don't seal all that great and the cavity would be open for air exchange.
I'm sure you can find some that are for exterior walls, but thry will be expensive.
Question.... I have a pocket door that's already installed, but after taking it all apart, less the drywall, I found a screw missing in the back rail and when it closes, the track bends and the door hits the floor towards the back. What's the best way to replace the screw without cutting into the drywall to access it, if any? Thanks
You might have to cut a hole in the drywall big enough to put a screw in and then patch it. I’m not sure any other way.
@@hausplans I was thinking before I break into the drywall, I may get 4- 12 inch extensions 1/4 inch magnetic drives to place a screw way back up there, ( a little mickey moused version ). If I don't have any luck, I'll just return them and do surgery on the drywall...🤷♂️
What s the name of the the kit? Link?
It’s a Johnson pocket door kit, I don’t have a link
Tracks need to be spray painted black before installing.
Why? They are behind the trim when it is completely finished and you never see them.
Jamb?? Is it a kit? Do you make your own??
It’s a kit
Are you hiring?
Is this kit for 2x4 stud wall sir ??
It was and I modified it to work with a 2 x 4 wall
Where you buy this kind kit
Mostly lumberyard stock them
Why didn't they make a pocket door like a closet door???
A simple roller on a simple track ???
My pocket door sucks
What’s the height of your door
6’-8”
There is a better way
