When a 20 years old calls you for help crying at a restaurant , he's probably shouldn't be driving. You should have drove his as s home....
He was 21.... Not that it really matters
Rob was not driving when they left the bar. His girlfriend was, nobody knows when he got behind the wheel. But it was after they left the bar. That's why nobody tried to prevent him from driving at the bar he wasn't driving.
He Was 22
why in the hell did barry dodson let him drive home that night if he was that upset and crying in his beer. it wouldn't have take a rocket scientist to know he had probably drank too much that night....
SUBARUWRC555Jiffy perhaps Barry had motives........
When he left the bar his girlfriend was driving, nobody knows when he got behind the wheel.
Can't blame Barry for that. Period
drinking and driving was not the taboo back then that it is today. Even my law abiding dad would sometimes drive with a beer.
@@johnboy4025 🤔🤔🤔
This is going to trigger people, but the truth hurts.
I’m not triggered but I do think about the fact that it was a different time, before DUIs where the taboo offense of today. Even if they were, he was just a kid, he was famous and used to success and was clearly struggling to deal with failure. No it doesn’t make it okay but there’s no need to shit on him for what he threw away. He didn’t intend on wrecking and if he hadn’t killed that poor woman ppl would be remembering him as a what could’ve been and not what pos moron. Like us regular ppl always made responsible decisions at 21 without the pressure of fame. We just got lucky and didn’t die
It’s always easy to judge someone in hindsight and if the op of this video didn’t take such a hardline stance on this kids stupidity then I guarantee you that this comment section wouldn’t be full of ppl saying how stupid the kid was. It’s easy to say harsh things when everyone else is, the tone was set and ppl went with along. If this video shown him in a tragic light then that’s how most ppl would have reacted and commented because like it or not most ppl are sheep. They get in where it’s easy to fit in. If everyone says one thing then they say it too cuz they wanna be accepted. Everyone should just take 10 seconds and remember some of the stupid shit they did at 21 and got away with, now think about if u hadn’t been so lucky, would that make u a piece of shit?
Fr
Agreed. He was from my hometown, but what he did was incredibly reckless, inconsiderate of others lives, and moronic. Thank you for making this
I give you major props for being blunt about how his life ended man. Too many people on Facebook wanna shove that under the rug.
Im Impartial about this guy, not even a NASCAR fan, but I would argue that massive failure and depression could drive anyone to making that poor of a choice. He was in the wrong, but it's still sad and I dont think fair to call the man an idiot. Depression is a hell of a drug.
Yeah, Rob was talented but was super unfocused and immature. It's unfortunate
Dalejr88rox yeah road rage affects all of us. It wasn’t the alcohol that caused him to do that, it was his road rage. RIP Rob Moroso.
IT WASN’T THE ALCOHOL? DID YOU EVEN WATCH? HE WAS TWICE THE LEGAL LIMIT. TWICE. YOU THINK THIS WAS ABOUT ROAD RAGE? JESUS! HE WAS BEING A DRUNKEN FOOL AND CRASHED AND KILLED A HARDWORKING MOM.

I have little empathy for someone that drives drunk. A drunk driver nearly had me my dad and sister die cause of road rage, so I have no tolerance for it whatsoever. Quite possibly the most devastating and depressing NASCAR Bust story so far.
He didn't race in cup long enough to be a bust.
He could have been a future star if he didn’t drink and it was unfortunate he had everything but drinking (along with other bad choices) was very bad and idiotic and he even kill a guy and injured a women because he was driving under the influence like if he didn’t drink and made better choices he wouldn’t be on the bust list and heck could be in the hall of fame if he made better choices which unfortunately he didn’t and obviously pay the price for it and I don’t like him because of the many idiotic things he did and if he made better decisions I’m pretty sure i liked him.
you're a bust
“Rob Moroso has crashed in Turn 1.”
When hasn’t he?
Dale Sr would be crashing a ton in that shit car
When Derrike Cope was lol
How does this trigger people? You shouldn't drive with alcohol in your system, PERIOD. Yeah, it sucks about what happened to him, but he brought it upon himself by driving while drunk.
I'm not upset calling him out for drunk driving. I'm upset for calling him a bust. When he moved to cup he didn't have good backing. The equipment they ran with was hand me down junk. It's not like they had a budget to compete. You sent be called a bust of most of your career wasn't in top equipment. You really think JJ Harvick or Busch would be competitive in Front Row or Roush or RCR or any mod to lower team today? Hell No.
People that are drunk dont make good decisions so its idiotic to get upset at them for those decisions. No doubt you brainless retards would be even more upset with him if the woman he killed was pregnant. In Australia it is illegal for an establishment to serve someone alcohol if they are drunk. Its the responsibility of the establishment because a drunk person doesnt know when to stop. Because they are $&$&ing drunk. If you want to blame someone then blame the establishment that continued to serve him alcohol until he was twice the legal limit, then blame the guy he called for help - then blame his girlfriend that apparently let him drive after they left establishment.
What dumb stuff have you done while drunk? The fact that you havent killed a pregnant lady while drunk is just blind luck. You dont know what you are doing while you are drunk.
RIP Tammy Williams
I'm glad you talked about his accident so bluntly. When I read about him, I felt sorry that such a young talent was lost so soon. However, it seemed like after YEARS of knowing who he was I finally found out about him killing that woman and himself because he got behind the wheel drunk. I don't understand why so many NASCAR fans make him out as the victim and mourn him so heavily when the ultimate truth is that he killed himself by being an idiot. The worst part of it being that he killed an innocent woman too.
His girlfriend was driving the car when the left the bar.
SHE should have NEVER switched spots with him.

Dick actually made the 20 one of the safest cars on the track. I don't know how comparable it is to today but there was a foam infused in the drivers side door as well as some other added safety features. Just a shame his poor decisions cost others so much.
He died in his first season of Cup. He cant be called a bust.

Rob should had continued to race in the Busch series for a couple more years
Wow, I went through lots of emotions throughout this video.
Rob did not "literally" have the world in his hands.

Brain France
I was a Rob Moroso fan, especially when he was in BGN. Personally, I think that dad moved him up a season or two to early. As a retired LEO, I have little tolerance for drunk drivers. However, the kid was in his early 20"s, we all did stuff in our youth that, by the grace of God, we lived through. He didn't and it was tragic. Let he among that hasn't sinned cast the first stone.
If he had lived, he probably would have been thrown out of the sport at some point.
Karl Singleton Shane Hmiel style.
In Favor of Ward Burton
I was at the September 1990 Dover race which was Moroso's third to last start before his fatal car accident. Moroso definitely had a lot of hype coming into the series following his 1989 Busch Title. Given NASCAR's rising popularity at the time the media began searching for "the next big thing" every year. Gordon would basically come along at the same time and proved to be the star that Moroso never lived to be.
I used to feel sorry for him... Not anymore! He brought it on himself! And if he was upset about not doing well... He was a 20-year-old Rookie! Jeff Gordon didn't find success until 1994, and people claimed he wrecked too much! The difference is Jeff Gordon wasn't an entitled brat! He knew he had to work harder and it paid off big time! RIP TAMMY.
Jeff Gordon was put in Top tier car. If you put Gordon on a small team or put Gordon in Moroso cup car he wouldn't be successful and back running open wheel cars
James, Jeff Gordon was in GOOD stuff but he and Ray made Hendrick a powerhouse. I still feel Jeff would have found success with another team.
Drives just as good off the track as he does on the track
So, the judge in those speeding cases didn't revoke his licence because it would have affected his work
Seems like it
Black Flags Matter the state of North Carolina made a mistake
Wonder when nascar made that change.
Never. The author of this video is full of shit. You don't have to now, and never did need a road license to drive in NASCAR.
Yeah, 80s and early 90s weren't exactly the same as now, people with 5 DUIs would be driving again within a few years.

Could he have been good if he had gotten the hang of it? Probably but we will never know. Would Adam Petty have been good, maybe with a different team because the best days of Petty Enterprises had long since passed when his career started.

The other day I watched the 1990 Mello Yello 500, the first race after Moroso’s death, and I saw that Barry Dodson was a crew chief analyst during the race. It makes me think why didn’t he do more to prevent Moroso from driving under the influence? I’m sure Dodson thought about him during the race, but if he really feels emotional about Moroso’s death, he would express his regret not doing something right then and there. Moroso was really fucking stupid, but Dodson was an idiot as well.
Because Moroso wasn't actually driving at first, his girlfriend was
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it but Barry Dodson lost his son & daughter in a car accident. I don't know if alcohol was involved. They were both teenagers, so I think they were passengers and not driving the car. Another lesson besides "don't drive drunk" should be, this time for parents, for a rich kid like Rob Moroso, don't just give him everything and make life so easy. The kid obviously never learned responsibility because he had the money to escape the consequences of his actions on previous occasions. Also, he was pushed into cup too soon and was in over his head. Another year or two in the Busch series may have made him more ready to face the Cup grind. Even Jeff Gordon raced two full seasons in Busch before moving up to a cup ride, and he was more of a talent than Moroso, and came into the series with the established Rick Hendrick team. Moroso was pushed ahead too quickly by an ambitious father and the results were disaster. For that, not for the way he lost his life, I think he deserves some sympathy.
Most of his crashes were in part caused by other drivers. He had some talent. This was a era in NASCAR when rookies did not get good rides
But these stupid fans today don't know that. How hard it was to get a good ride. Back then.
He was a victim of other people's wrecks when he raced in cup

To call rob moroso’s rookie year and his career a bust is a shame! Every rookie has their ups and downs and I believe if he didn’t pass away he would have been a very good driver in later years. A lot of growing up and understanding the career of a nascar driver he could been very good. He was rookie of the year which is a great accomplishment and most drivers who become great drivers never even get that opportunity. I was a fan and will always be.

Not trying to excuse this, i completely agree with you about not feeling bad for Rob, I will say though that I think the biggest problem was he wasn't ready. Like you said he was still young, and I don't think he was ready for that amount of pressure drivers face. Like I said I'm not excusing it, I just believe if he was either more mature at the time he could have been the driver everyone was expecting him to be.

Jeff Gordon Would Still Knock Rob's Teeth Out in Cup
Sorry, but I have to disagree with shitting on Rob.
Was it dumb and irresponsible what he did? Yes.
Now how many other celebrities do you criticize for their drunk driving? And how many times did you do something dumb like that when you were younger?
If you can't answer either question honestly that makes you a hypocrite.
Its crazy how one drunk night effected so many people. His family track in my hometown was sold to a company that ran it into the ground with poor management. Its now been sold and demolished leaving hundreds of racers in palm beach, Broward and dade without a track. He could've saved racing in southeast Florida but made a dumb decision. Don't drink and drive its not worth it.
Tons of talent, but young, spoiled, and ignorant..... I think he could've had a great career, he was a Jeff Gordon with poor judgement....
I remember pulling for him when I was a youngin. LONGGG time ago :)
Funny how Davey got into Rob Moroso at Bristol in 1990 and STILL won the race.
He was actually Rookie of the Year. It's a shame he decided to be a knucklehead and drive drunk and killed a woman.
I don’t ever remember hearing about this guy
If he had done well and been a little more careful with his life we could be sitting here talking about him like he's Jeff Gordon. Too bad he went and caused a drink driving accident.
Help Me alcohol did not cause that. It was road rage. I’ve driven drunk plenty of times and if you do the speed limit or speed but use common driving sense (obey traffic control devices, look and make sure it is 100% safe to change lanes) you should be fine. Driving is deadly without drinking too so let’s just not care about people that drive drunk. See how messed up that sounds?

One strange thing you didn't mention is that he still somehow won the Rookie Of The Year title that year. Yeah, the rookie class was THAT lame.
it is kind of a shame, because he was billed as the next big nascar star, i think he should have stayed in the busch series and win another championship, maybe field an entry into a few cup races here and there and see how much his busch team progressed before making the jump, but yeah i do agree, stupid choices lead to consequences
I get it, Rob Moroso made a stupid decision, but at the time he was depressed and that one dude that tried to talk to him should have done more to lift him up. This is the ugly face of depression. And also I wouldn't consider him a bust because his life was cut short, otherwise I would say that Tim Richmond was also a bust because he didn't win a championship. I know you will disagree, but I don't consider those who were plagued by injuries or their lives were cut short to be busts because they never really had that chance to show what they could do.
The data doesn't back up your claim. In his rookie Cup season Rob had average finishes of 25th. That compares favorably with racers like Dale Earnhardt Jr (20.8) and Kyle Busch (21). The 1989 championship Busch campaign saw him winning 4 times, with 12 Top 5s and 16 Top 10s. That he killed someone else in the accident is so sad. Perhaps what Rob needed most was someone to hold him accountable for his poor decisions.
Let this be a lesson, it doesn't matter how talented you are or how much potential you may have, if you do something stupid like driving under the influence, you could pay the ultimate price. I have no empathy for Rob, I have empathy for Dick Moroso and Tammy Williams
You cannot have empathy for Tammy, unless you are dead moron... Empathy means you have lived through what they have...
While I'll agree that he was dumb with his decision that caused his death but I'm gonna ask the question if he didn't do this on purpose. Mainly listening to the guy who had described what Moroso was going through off the track. While yes he had the world at his fingertips but as someone who dominates in Busch competition to constantly wrecking and finishing mid pack the whole season in cup, that had to be demoralizing. It's a shitty situation and he did it to himself but he took someone out with him which is what this all ends up with.
A bad decision by someone who probably wasn't thinking straight to begin with.
I was not aware that Phil Parsons had driven that #4 Kodak car. I remember Rick Wilson, Ernie Irvan, Sterling Marlin, Bobby Hamilton, and in the later years after Kodak left, Mike Skinner.
Parsons ran the first few races of the 90 season but Morgan McClure wanted a more aggressive driver. So they hired Swervin Irvan.

Drinking and driving is obviously a dumb decision, but essentially say "he got what he deserved" is a little harsh. I'm not trying to make him out as a victim, but that's a little shitty on your part to say that. I know you disagree, but that's just how I feel.
Ik yall will yell at me for this but I wouldn't call him a bust because 1. It's his first year in cup. 2. It's a new team coming from the Busch Series. 3. He could've been better in his second year cuz some rookies struggle in their first year in cup like Chase Elliott and Kurt Busch. And 4. He was competing against some old and talented guys in their 30's 40's and 50's in the Cup Series like Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Darrell Waltrip, and Davey Allison and Moroso was gonna struggle.
NASCAR shouldn't have awarded Rob ROTY. I get that he won it legitimately, but what he did was selfish and stupid and unfortunately got other people killed too.
It means a lot that you acknowledged the hardest thing for anyone to do is bury their child. And yes, it is. Especially when it’s because of bad choices your child made.
