Scott Wimmer deserved so much better than what he got in the beginning
Honestly if Wimmer was in a better team instead of C class team Bill Davis Racing, he could've had better runs imo.
I agree. It is a shame that Wimmer never recovered from his stint in the #22 Cup car, which was never a good team (Ward Burton overachieved). By Scott's rookie year of 2004, the #22 wasn't even getting factory support.
Ward made that team 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Can you you imagine if he was at Hendrick, Penske, Roush or JGR? 🏆
dnasty312 I know this is late but apparently Ward was going to sign with Joe Gibbs but wanted to stay loyal to Bill Davis. Pretty Crazy he could have won a lot of races.
@@DavidJ867 God, could you imagine if WARD had a better ride?
I know I'm way late to the party but... getting a DUI and hiding under a bed doesn't help a career either. Really hard to find sponsorship after a dumb ass move like that
Scott is a pretty decent spotter I hear nowadays, so his career didn’t completely go away
Just by observation of this sparked some memories for me.. Remember when not only every car in Cup had basically the same sponsor week in and out but most Busch cars also had big time names on their cars? Man alot of Cup teams today would kill for what used to be bottom barrel Busch sponsors.. And beyond that look how packed the stands used to be for a Busch Grand National event. Almost if not more filled seats than a main Cup race nowadays.. Sad man those days seemed like the golden age of NASCAR.
They were friend, at least we got to see it
Thank you Brian Francesca for the empty seats, shitty cars and convuleted championship format. We thoroughly enjoyed the COT era.
Its very telling that statistically 2005 was the peak of nascar in terms of viewing figures - both gate and tv. Then came the slide. I cant watch these dayum stage races. If they think the races are too long then shorten the races dont split them up!!
Anyway hope ur all good.
I really miss dodge in NASCAR,
Max Blankenship still make the charger and challenger.
Same
@Max Blankenship they only do super late models and pinty cars
Shrek! Tonight at 7/6c!!!
Hahaha was wondering wtf you were talking about. Shrek!
Scott Riggs was another one.
In case everyone was wondering where Scott finished in the 2000 NAPA 500, he finished 22nd, 3 laps down. Quite the accomplishment, considering all the circumstances.
Totally forgot to mention that thank you
No worries. I Googled it.
CoolNala was it his arca with a new engine or just an extra cup car bill davis had lying around?
It is even explained in the video. It was meant to be in ARCA race, but Qualifying was either rained out and/or it didn't make the race. Thus, Bill Davis basically said, "Screw it.", and moved that car over to the Winston Cup race. Scott qualified and raced in it.
CoolNala must have been a damn fast ARCA car to keep pace with cup cars and even lead for a short time
I guess every Scott driving in nascar has bad luck
Lol, I said the same thing in a comment I made on this video long before I saw this one
All I want to know is why did Jimmy Spencer miss the drivers meeting?
Probably either Cup practice or qualifying.
I’d say he forgot, but he never forgets
Dana Chappell good one
Because he’s jimmy spencer
Trying to kill Kurt again lol
I was a huge Scott fan growing up, first saw him finish 3rd at Daytona in 2004 and stuck with him. Man those 04 and 05 seasons were bad. But was nice to see him have success in the Busch series
4:00 imagine someone attempting that today, show up for the ARCA race but can't get in that show then deciding screw it, we'll enter the cup race, get in and lead laps... The only way someone could attempt something like that if they went from the ARCA garage to the K&N pro series garage
Sadly that would be impossible arca is still races the old Gen 4/pre COT car from back in the day
NASCAR Busts: David Gilliland
No
Idk he was a good driver with a terrible Motorsports
He was a lot of fun to watch in the Busch series for RCR.
Little known fact but i remember one of the shows like nascar 360 did an episode with him, he had a an inner ear problem that played with his equilibrium that wimmer blamed some of his issues on. Bill davis was hit or miss, i remember a number of dave blaney runs that could have been wins but rotten luck or mechanical issues bit him.
I remember him being a rookie in NASCAR Thunder 2003. I had a lot of fun racing him career mode. Always thought he would be a great driver. Sadly never got real chance
i didnt know about that 2000 cup race! damn!
Just think if he would’ve made the Arca race. He probably would’ve won that race as long as he could’ve beat Frank Kimmel
It actually hurts me to see such a decline, one has to wonder if Wimmer was hooked up with a better team and equipment. Good video. Hope to see more.
when you be leading a Cup race in an ARCA car. GG Scott Wimmer GG.
Ward Burton Should've Never Been Kicked To The Curb
Blame Bill Davis and Mike Brown for that move by going to Caterpillar and convincing them that Ward was the problem. Karma got BDR in the end...
Yea. All he did was win 8 races including a Daytona 500 in sup par equipment. U sir are wrong😄
I really hoped that Wimmer would have gotten a full time Cup ride with RCR in the late 2000s
It would have probably saved his career
crappy cars got crappier once Bill Davis starting dating Toyota. Dodge pulled all support and left them a team with an unbranded Dodge for a couple years until Toyota came in and they somehow got worse before folding completely
InvisibleTeeth I suppose it was somehow Toyota’s fault. The 22 at BDR would be the only Toyota to make the top 35 in points in 2007. Granted MWR and RBR were start-up teams but they had 5 cars total so...and there was the 36 at BDR.
Funny you mention that because Toyotas are probably more American made that Ford and Chevy.
Not all Toyota teams did great. We all remember Red Bull.
Wasn't BDR running Dodge in Cup and Toyota in Trucks to cause that? (His trucking company also had trouble at the time the racing team closed, but Bill Davis Trucking recovered.)
@@AEMoreira81 yeah. They were the first to go with Toyota in trucks. I don't think Toyota's was ready or were approved to run a cup car yet. But BDR still wanted run in cup but they had already pissed off Dodge.
Scott is a little older than me, but I share my hometown with him. He owns a local short track. He is kind of a local hero like Dick Trickle is big to Wisconsin race fans. Hes a down to earth guy, just kind of shy and quiet. I think he is a driver coach for Harrison Burton, Jeff Burton's kid. He is in his early 40's, but put him in good equipment and he could still compete. Wimmer drover for a lot of under funded teams and did good. He just doesn't have the sponsors like the untalented new age douchebags of today's nascar.
I love these videos, man; you remind me a lot of Mike Korzemba for some reason :o
Anyway, for your next Nascar Busts video, how about a driver that not a lot of people remember nowadays... David Stremme.
Gadzooks I think that it is his voice and I think that the background music when he is talking is the same
Is then name Scott cursed in Nascar? I mean Scott Riggs, Scott Pruett, Scott Wimmer, Scott Speed, and Brian Scott are all in this Nascar Bust series.
I think wimmer could have been better in the right circumstances
Ward Burton Getting Dropped from Bill Davis Was Bullshit
Dude! Watching all your videos now & excellent! Give us more!
Honestly I think he was only a Cup series bust. He was good in Xfinity when he had good equipment
I get a KTO type vibe from you. I like your vids, keep em up!
Hey man great job on these videos they're really well done.
Whenever I hear the words "Scott Wimmer" the only thing that I think about is his 3rd place finish in the 2004 Daytona 500.
Holy crap Black Flags Matter breaking out the Mike Korzemba music. I like it.
Scott Wimmer was pretty serviceable for RCR
To say he's a bust is completely ridiculous, he was driving for Bill Davis when he had no factory support because BD shot his own team in the foot by being "in bed" with Toyota while he was still with Dodge.
As a Minnesota guy I followed the Wimmers espescially in ASA. I thought they'd be a lot bigger names. And yes I grew up on Larry Detjens. I was devastated when the Checkered Flag paper showed up and told of his passing
I think after that he made decent starts with RCR in nationwide series, it would be interesting to see what he could have done in a full time ride with the 29 or the 33 in NNs.
Theirs a bust for ya mentioned in one of the race broadcast, Buckshot Jones
Also he had an inner ear problem that messed with his balace and he said did affect his feel of the car. There is a video of a doctor visit he had where they talked about it.
Didn't hold back with your final statement!
Cars Simplified. I thought it was pretty hilarious 1 built the shitty cars the other crashed those shitty cars 😂
I swear half these drivers are only remembered for a flip or incredibly violent crash
Nascar Team Busts BK Racing Or Swan Racing
That will be in another series of it's own soon
Black Flags Matter Nascar Busts: Danica Patrick
Swan?
isn't ryan Holman already doing that series?
The team Stremme co owned
Idea for one of your next busts: David Stremme
Ward always got the most out of 2nd rate cars and he got dumped. Bill Davis never won again. I guess they should have stuck with Burton.
If Scott Wimmer left Bill Davis, he might have had some success somewhere else.
Kind of supersized because I really thought Scott Wimmer would be consistent. Especially with his success late in 2002 in the Busch series
You failed to mention his DUI in 2004, not long before Daytona. Many said he should never race again. That performance in the 500 likely shut em up, but I reckon that might have thrown him for a loop as well.
The message this series portrays is if you have the name Scott anywhere in your full name don’t go anywhere near nascar
When I first started watching Nascar, Scott Wimmer became my favourite driver for the sole reason I had his diecast
Still have it somewhere
I would have like to have seen David ruittimun (sp) in better cars. Ran decent for mwr before they got support from gibbs
11:11 god that Vickers car is bright
That would be the Gariner Fruticus sponsorship. (Hair care)
Ricky Craven would be a cool idea he was in my opinion a great driver but was never in great equipment.
Subscriber 132!!
Whatever happened to that Jimmie Johnson kid, he didn't amount to much.
So sad,, the 2004 Daytona 500 looked exceptional for a Rookie. He could have become the new Ward Burton
8:27 SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME THE WORLD IS GONNA ROLL ME
Another suggestion: Buckshot Jones... I mean whatever happened to Buckshot Jones?
Unluckiest driver on the planet.
Steve Park: hold my beer
Laughs in Steve Park and Jerry Nadeau!
Tonight: Shrek 7/6c
8:25 Shrek Tonight 7/6c
I was once a fan of Wimmer, thought he would have made a decent driver.
Jon Wood next?
Apparently I’m the only other one that remembers Jon Wood
I legit only know of this guy bc of the first wreck you showed in the video
Was at that daytona 500, was cheering for him or harvick to win
Wimmer never got a good cup ride. The Cat #22 was an absolutely abysmal team through the mid to late 2000s.
Nascar Busts: Dario Franchitti
Let'sGoRacing88 very true
There was ulterior motives for him, getting out of a contract so he could run for Gannasi in Indy cars
I love that 22 Cat car.
Do NASCAR busts :Buckshot Jones
Or Bad Seasons:Matt Kenseth
2017
I watched this one, and I see you also have episodes for Scott Speed and Scott Pruett. Maybe NASCAR isn't the sport for guys named Scott...
That Atlanta race was last race Earnhardt actually completed :(
u should do david regan
can you do a bust of Buckshot Jones in the near future
Do NASCAR Busts: Patrick Carpentier
If he had been given the Cup cars that Ward Burton and Dave Blaney had in the early 2000s, we might have seen better performances out of him. His DUI didn't help him, either...
OLD MAGIC SHOES . as Darrell would say it
I only remember him for that flip that he had
He was not a bust, I've met him and have his autograph, he's a real humble guy he came up from Wisconsin tracks like a lot of successful nascar drivers.
TheMW2informer Believe it or not, being a cool guy doesn’t have any effect on how you do in NASCAR.
I think a lot of the reason Bill Davis is out of NASCAR today: Rick Hendrick pulling Jeff Gordon away in the early 90s
It has to be pointed out that Davis's cars were so bad at this point because of them switching their truck series teams to Toyota, which caused Dodge to pull factory support from all of Bill Davis' other teams as well. Since Toyota didn't have a cup series team all Davis could do was supply the same old Dodges that weren't upto the standards of the other cars at the cup level. By the time Toyota did join the Cup series, even though they were supplying BDR with factory support once again, it was too little too late for Bill Davis Racing.
Scott wasn't bad the problem was he was rushed, drove for Bill Davis which wasn't good by 2003 and his Crew Chief left him if they stayed together and found a better ride he would have had a better career.
I thought Scott showed great promise in the xifinty series for RCR but lack of sponsors
Wimmer wasnt that bad. He was just on a dying team by the time he got into Cup. Also he seemed pretty unlucky
8:25 is the best part
Here's an idea who has more torn up equipment wimmer, Danica Patrick or Juan pablo montoya
He should have had the 18 instead of Yeley
That wasn’t 50/50. It was more 85 Davis fault / 15 Wimmer
At least he won a race in 08'
Mike Korzemba of NASCAR lol
Let's not forget after he was let go from Bill Davis Racing after the 2005 season he DNQ and missed the 2006 Daytona 500 driving for Morgan McClure Motorsports.
He wasn’t bad. The car owner on the other hand was a crook from what I hear
If the equipment had matched the talent at BDR, they'd still be around today.
When you come from the land of Kulwicki Trickle Kenseth Sauter etc you know what you're doing
Brandan Gaughan
Quite ironic that bobby labonte was in a considerable amount of these wrecks
Have an idea for busts: Sam Hornish Jr
Along with Scott Riggs
TheCarguy20 Sam isn’t really a bust in my eyes, but he did have a rough outing in the cup series. Great xfinity driver though
TheCarguy20 don’t forget Scott Speed, Trevor Bayne, and Danica Patrick
TheGallopingGhost Gaming I think someone did a video on Scott speed already
I would define a NASCAR bust as someone who cut their teeth in the NASCAR ladder series, showed a ton of promise, but was never ready for primetime. I think of guys like Reed Sorenson.
Is that the older brother of Brandon wimmer who races sprint cars
NASCAR busts: David Stremme
I don't know, was it the driver or the fact that most of the equipment consisted of other teams' throwaways?
Honestly bill Davis didn't have bad equipment. As a company they have a lot of impressive wins. There downfall was when they got busted testing the dodge engine in a GM branded car
It's No Wonder Nascar Drivers With "Scott" In Their Name Always Have Bad Luck
Wimmer was a good driver, I just think Bill Davis was pinching pennies at this point and he didn’t get good enough equipment to be competitive
