I was listening to this video, and when you got to Blastoise and I heard the background music I was like “Oh shit is that Tarkus?” and then you go on to talk about Tarkus. Despite being a huge fan of a couple prog bands I never got super into ELP but that song definitely rules
This was a cool video! You and I share only Bulbasaur in the Top 20 (maybe also Umbreon for its shiny form, but Sylveon is my favorite Eeveelution) but I liked hearing your perspective and some of your personal connections to these guys. I know ppl don’t love the Gen 8 designs too much but Sobble easily in my top 10, maybe even top 5. I also really like Mimikyu from Gen 7. Even without nostalgia I think there are just occasional designs that are really really cool in every gen. And I’m super fascinated by how many of your favorites are from gens 3 and 4, which you said you have no nostalgia for. I similarly have found X&Y to be largely forgettable for me in terms of games, definitely no fond memories, but I love the fairy type Pokémon it introduced a lot.
Mimikyu is actually pretty close for me. It just missed my honorable mentions. But yeah, isn’t that weird that the two gens that I have no nostalgia for still ended up having some designs that I love? Yet the list was still pretty Gen 1 heavy, which is largely nostalgia based.

If you are interested in other lists, here are some ideas: Top Pokemon names (regardless if you like the Pokemon or not) Top Cat Pokemon Top Bird Pokemon Top Dog/Horse Pokemon Top Pokemon (by types)
Solid list, very different from mine but all good stuff still. It is amazing to think later this year there will be over 1,000 different Pokémon in the national dex
My favorites would be (prepare for a relatively big list): Generation One: Alakazam, Pidgeot, Raichu, Sandslash, Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Team Rocket's Arbok, Team Rocket's Weezing, Team Rocket's Meowth, Ninetails, Arcanine, Golem, Gengar, Marowak, Starmie, Scyther, Gyarados, Lapras, Eevee, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Zapdos, Dragonair, and Mewtwo (along with armored Mewtwo). Generation Two (with some of them originally planned for generation one): Crobat, Steelix, Kingdra, Scizor, Heracross, Lanturn, Ampharos, Espeon, Umbreon, Skarmory, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, and Tyranitar. Generation Three: Mudkip, Swampert, Blaziken, Gardevior, Aggron, Flygon, Milotic, Absol, Salamence, Metagross, Registeel, Latias, Latios, Kyogre, Rayquaza, and Deoxys. Generation Four: Magnezone, Lucario, Lopunny (they can also be male!), Starraptor, Weavile, Darkrai, Luxray, Floatzel, Garchomp, Togekiss, Glaceon, Gallade, Dialga, Regigigass (if only slow start wasn't so detrimental), and Giratina altered form. Generation Five: Serperior, Ash's Oshawott, Dewott, Samurwott, Excadrill, Volcarona, Scolipede, Lilligant, Ash's Krokorok, Krookodile, Sigilyph, Cofagrigus, Zoroark, Chandelure, Haxorus, Mienshao, Golurk, Bisharp, Hydregion, Cobalion, Virizion, Keldeo, Reshiram, Zekrom, Meloetta, Genesect, and Kyurem Black. Generation Six (favorite generation in terms of designs): Mega Charizard X, Shiny Charizard Y, Mega Blastoise, Mega Pidgeot, Mega Alakazam, Shiny Mega Gengar, Mega Gyarados, Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Ampharos, Mega Steelix, Mega Scizor, Mega Heracross, Mega Tyranitar, Mega Sceptile, Mega Blaziken, Mega Swampert, Shiny Mega Gardevior, Mega Mawile, Mega Aggron, Mega Altaria, Mega Absol, Mega Salamence, Mega Metagross, Mega Latias, Mega Latios, Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, Mega Rayquaza, Mega Lopunny... Mega Garchomp, Mega Lucario, Mega Gallade, Mega Audino, Chestnaught, Braixen, Greninja, Ash Greninja, Florges, Meowstic male, Aegislash, Malmar, Tyrantrum, Aurorus, Sylveon, Dedenne, Goodra, Noivern, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Diancie, and Mega Diancie. Generation Seven: Alolan Ninetails, Alolan Golem, Alolan Muk, Alolan Marowak, Alolan Raichu, Ash's Rowlet, Decidueye, Primarina, Lycanrock midday, Lurantis, Salazzle, Tsareena, Golisopod, Type: Null, Mimikyu, Kommo-o, Tapu Koko, Tapu Fini, Solgaleo, Lunala, Ultra Necrozma, and Magearna. Generation Eight (not a whole lot I like from this generation): Cinderace, Sirfetch'd, Alcremie, Zacian, Zamazenta, and Galarian Moltres.
As for Generation 9; Sprigatito, Meowscarada, Skeledirge, Armarouge, Ceruledge, Farigiraf, Kingambit, Iron Thorns, Baxcalibur, Roaring Moon, Iron Valiant, shiny Koraidon, Miraidon, Iron Leaves, Iron Crown, Iron Boulder, Raging Bolt, Gouging Fire, Ogerpon, Bloodmoon Ursaluna, Terapagos Terastal Form, and some other Pokemon in Terastal form.
Sandslash being a bit of a downgrade compared to Sandshrew visually is true for me as well. I started with Red and then Silver (where it's not exclusive but also not in the wild iirc) so I have no real nostalgia for Sandshrew, but I always loved its sprites. The RB sprite in particular is still one of my all time favorites and Gen3's Ruby&Sapphire Sandshrew sprite is THE cutest I can think of. But the reason I rarely ever use it even today, is Sandslash, which I just don't like as much. It's been growing on me more recently thanks to a few Pokemon hacks I played, but I still don't like evolving it. I actually had a shiny Sandslash in Sapphire though - I liked that one a lot. Seeing Chandelure on a favorites list makes me happy. It's one of my favorite ghost types as well (I love its characterization in Pokken Tournament, where it's just an annoying happy gremlin) and possibly the reason I don't mind objectmons at all. If the design is executed well, the concept being an object or an animal really makes no difference to me.
Have you ever looked into how many pokemon are the "mouse" pokemon, or the "something mouse" pokemon? Way too damn many! Just goes to show you someone at the localization department refused to not use the machine translator. I swear Japanese has a word for mouse that also means rodent that changes definition based purely on context, but the localizers refuse to consider that context, and name everything from a rabbit-squirrel to a mole-shrew to a beaver to an echidna "mouse" because Nintendo used the kanji what means "mouse, but also everything we might consider to be some sort of rodent-like animal". There are like, 20+ things called 'the mouse pokemon' and not a goddamn one of thems is a meece. Also, I'd still love to see that Batman and Robin run with lots of different Trainer cards to represent the utility belts. Been thinking about it, and I think Farfetch'd fits the idea of Robin pretty well. Robin wields a bo staff, Farfetch'd have stick go bonk.
This list actually makes me want to try a challenge based on your Gen 1 favorites. First I thought about R/B/Y. Red seems like the worst choice since you can't get Sandshrew. Blue could work, but has no Primeape. Yellow would let you get both Blastoise and Bulbasaur, but doesn't have Beedrill. Then I realized I was going about this all wrong. If I wanted to use Sandslash, Parasect, Blastoise, Bulbasaur, Primeape, Omastar, Beedrill, and even Articuno all at once, especially in honor of your channel, it would have to be in a Fighting/Grass/Water deck in the TCG game. I begin soon. I even get to bully Matthew for Parasect, Articuno, Omastar, and Primeape!
I LOVE this idea. Why didn’t I think of a deck using my own favorites? You’ll have to let me know how it goes. And say hi to Matthew for me as he’s writhing on the ground trying to figure out how he’s going to come back from such a financial loss.
@@Paraspectre By all means, please consider trying this run too. I started with Squirtle and friends to pick up the Blastoise line right away, and after I'm done with Matthew I'm going inside the club trainer room to bully Ryan, the guy who only uses 3 prizes and drops Evolution packs which contains the rest of the team. Also I think Matthew has gone through some kind of karate kid training, cause with just the starter stuff, he's actually pretty tough at first! My first game I only had Abra to start with and he leads with a Snorlax!
“Minus the whole possession thing and trying to put viewers to sleep.” Well to be honest, I do listen to your videos to fall asleep. And who can say if you’re possessed or not? I think you may be more like Parasect than you realize!
being from galar i love alot gen 8 i mean Polteageist line is amazing XD being a gen one nub tho butterfree is my n1 ^^ do some nuzlockes bro XD fighting only ;d
Sirfetch'd fan and Articuno honorable mention, aw yes. You're totally right about Bulbasaur! I may be somewhat offended about dropping Espeon as fave Eeveelution though, but I do respect Umbreon too. Desert stages FTW too. Top six for me, because team size? In no order: Ninetales, Haunter, Gyarados, Cubone, Furret and Nidoqueen. Honorable mention to Pyroar, because obvious biases are obvious.
Huh. I find myself agreeing with a majority of your list here. Don't know that I'd put them all in the same spots, but many of my favorites appeared on this list. :D
Bisharp is my all time favorite and that hasn't changed. I'm just very annoyed it evolves so God damn late. I hope that gets rectified at some point. Bisharp is strong but Pawniard is very weak. I really don't think evolution should happen any later than lvl 30. Sooner would be better but meh.
I shouldn't guess that you were going off liking some pig Pokémon before being accidental. Cause, I tend to like Pokémon that are felines, bats, plants, dragons, horses, foxes, magical, and gothic types which are realistically what stuff I enjoyed in my entire life, even being born on the year of the dragon (2000). Outside of that, my overall favorites are Raichu, Sylveon, and Suicune for the mention of felines.
Even if it is a rite of passage for every single Poketuber I love seeing these kinds of lists because they say a lot of about a person. It would take me an embarrasingly long time to be able to cull my favorite pokemon down into a top 20. My favorite Pokemon of all time is Dewgong.
Dewgong, nice. Not one you hear often. And yeah, people could have some of the same on their lists but the reasonings will probably be different. It’s interesting to hear these perspectives
imagine if Parasect wasn`t even in this list, it was just an executive choice because it fit the branding.
Now that would be funny. Or even better, Paras makes the list instead

DRIFBLIM DOES NOT END WITH A P!
@@Amelia4111 ya momma
Sandslash was my first shiny and I've used alot of them throughput the games and alot of fangames I love it!!!
Quasar is Pronounced Kway-Zar
Solid list, very different from mine but all good stuff still. It is amazing to think later this year there will be over 1,000 different Pokémon in the national dex
I’m hoping there will be a newcomer for the list. Sandile is on thin ice
@@Paraspectre I do how gen 9 has some great things for us

Generation Eight (not a whole lot I like from this generation): Cinderace, Sirfetch'd, Alcremie, Zacian, Zamazenta, and Galarian Moltres.
I really love all these lists and I think it’s amazing how you picked at least 6 from each game ☺️
Wow, you really went all out haha. Nice list too
As for Generation 9;
Sprigatito, Meowscarada, Skeledirge, Armarouge, Ceruledge, Farigiraf, Kingambit, Iron Thorns, Baxcalibur, Roaring Moon, Iron Valiant, shiny Koraidon, Miraidon, Iron Leaves, Iron Crown, Iron Boulder, Raging Bolt, Gouging Fire, Ogerpon, Bloodmoon Ursaluna, Terapagos Terastal Form, and some other Pokemon in Terastal form.
It's Ninetales, NOT Ninetails!
Paraspecter!!!
It’s weird how much the pig monkey combination works, Mankey/Primeape are both so cool looking and just a really well designed Pokémon
Right? I really like Mankey too but Primeape is a step beyond
I love the 3D Bulbasaur you have!!
Would a paraspectre know if it was possessed? Does parasect know?
I think my favorite use of Dusclops is its Pinball RS bonus stage
I have yet to experience this but I will get there soon on the Paraspective
Hooray! A Sandshrew/Sandslash fan!
I never really realized this, yeah. I guess mouse just equals rodent. But I never look at Sandshrew as either a mouse or rodent
1. Metagross
2. Kingdra
3. Starmie
4. Gardevoir
5. Elekid
6. Volcarona
7. Jellicent
8. Hydreigon
9. Mienshao
10. Aggron
Gotta say that you have some great taste in Pokémon lol. Only thing that made me go 😮 was your dismissal of the Ghastly evo line.
THERE IS NO H IN GASTLY!
I did a bug only run of red and Parasect was a big player on my team
I love hearing about people's favourites. The only pokemon on here that might be in my top 20 is parasect.
And what a solid choice to make the list 😎
You deserve it im going to subscribe to you and i am a gigantic pokemon fan too ^^
Haha thanks! Every subscriber counts
@@Paraspectre your welcome yes so true ^^
14:01 Orichalcos Shunoros, is that you?
I prefer dry skin parasect
What a monster
@@Paraspectre Healing in the rain and getting hit with water moves, is amazing. just you know avoid sun or ember
“Minus the whole possession thing and trying to put viewers to sleep.” Well to be honest, I do listen to your videos to fall asleep. And who can say if you’re possessed or not? I think you may be more like Parasect than you realize!
Haha I’ve heard that my voice is soothing to some people. I never knew this until I made some videos
Imagine an alternate evolution for Paras where the mushrooms didn't take over the body.
It would be a happy crab bug instead of a happy crab bug that doesn’t know where it is
Yo Beedrill is like top 5 for me. I like bug types.
being from galar i love alot gen 8 i mean Polteageist line is amazing XD being a gen one nub tho butterfree is my n1 ^^ do some nuzlockes bro XD fighting only ;d
I actually said “Yay!!” and clapped when you said your #1 Pokémon of all-time. ^_^
Very interesting list. It’s funny, I remember Gengar being the one everybody loved as a kid but I see more and more people now who like Haunter more.
Huh. I find myself agreeing with a majority of your list here. Don't know that I'd put them all in the same spots, but many of my favorites appeared on this list. :D
We know what’s up
F Yeah, Blastoise! My all time favourite.
One of the best things was killing Charizards every day in school.
Blastoise > Charizard any day, any time
Shiftree was always my favourite as a kid. Sneaky tree ninja. Badass.
I'm not sure these days, though. I'd have to put some serious thought into it
Shiftry was probably the one I liked the most the first time I played Gen 3. I thought Seedot was cool and added it to the roster.
Shiftry does NOT end with 2 E's, it ends with a Y!
@@Amelia4111 ok, chill 😂
Bisharp is my all time favorite and that hasn't changed. I'm just very annoyed it evolves so God damn late. I hope that gets rectified at some point. Bisharp is strong but Pawniard is very weak. I really don't think evolution should happen any later than lvl 30. Sooner would be better but meh.
Yeah Bisharp is one I really like. Kinda looks like it should be one of the Cenobites from Hellraiser
I always have a parasect calling it el Hefe, and man, its always el hefe!
“El Hefe used Spore!” Yeah I can see it now
@@Paraspectre you got it! Btw, i love your work ❤
Arbok, beedrill, sandslash, marowak
As someone who also has a weird soft spot in my heart for Sandshrew, I can very much relate.
It’s just the best
Cool a Sandslash fan
I know there are more out there
I am another (of the whole line really)
I'm surprised golurk and golette didn't make it two of your favorite types
They came so close. Maybe they’ll make a Ghost/Ground Parasect variant someday
@@Paraspectre paldean Parasect; ground/ghost (as it should've been from the start)
GOLETT DOES NOT END WITH AN E!
Which fossil did you take again?????
The one on the left I think… or was it the right? Whatever that swirly one is
When i was a kid beedrill was my favorite pokemon.
Scizor always reminds me of Ferrari cars, Iron man and Erza Scarlet
Vaporeon is so good
Ash Ketchum had a Primeape for what THREE episodes?
Such a shame. So much potential there
Sirfetch'd is the only reason I picked Sword because I didn't care about either legendary
Right? I didn’t know about it when I picked Sword so that was a nice find
Blastoise is my favorite. Aside from his presence in the card game he's a bigass walking artillery battery
How does it NOT get more love than Charizard? Charizard is an orange dragon looking thing. Boring.
@@Paraspectre Charizard is a badass in the anime but he could've been any of the three and still go to work
Alolan Sandshrew is my favorite Ice-type.
Igloo shrew
Even if it is a rite of passage for every single Poketuber I love seeing these kinds of lists because they say a lot of about a person. It would take me an embarrasingly long time to be able to cull my favorite pokemon down into a top 20. My favorite Pokemon of all time is Dewgong.
Dewgong, nice. Not one you hear often. And yeah, people could have some of the same on their lists but the reasonings will probably be different. It’s interesting to hear these perspectives
