It's about time we take a look at every single mushroom Pokémon. There are 11 in total, unless I completely missed one. But I don't make mistakes, you know? At the end, I also rank all 11 so stay tuned for that.

We need mega parasect so we can get an item called parasite
Nintendo isn't that cool; it would probably be Parasectite
You found Parasite!
Omg 😂
the mental image of giving a cicada a ringworm to make it into a buff cicada is incredibly cursed in a fascinating way
We need a mega paras, not parasect, a version of paras that overcomes the fungal infection and metamorphs into its full-grown cicada form, but only with the help of parasite, For irony's sake.
I would like to see a regional evolution of Paras where the bug over powers the mushroom and becomes a Bug Fighting type
Bug/Fighting, very interesting. I feel like Ghost would be too obvious, so yeah. I’d be for it.
Toedscool's design answers the age-old question of "What if foreskin could walk?"
Paraspectre is absolutely correct that parasitic plants are not mushrooms, nor do mycorrhizae infesting a plant’s roots make that plant a fungus any more than my ketamine addiction makes me a horse
The famous mushroom Pokémon, Vileplume 🙄🙄. Get outta town, random person’s list.
I love shiinotic so much
He really helped me a lot during my Sun and Moon run. I caught it in a Heal Ball, because it fits it perfectly.
I don’t know why it doesn’t really do it for me. I don’t get creeped out by it and I wish I did.
If I was a gym leader I would have a mushroom theme, I think they're just so cool, and could offer some fun gym puzzles.
5:55 Omg! I have the same plush!! I like to keep him in dark places like under a shelf.
Breloom will always be a favorite, gen 3 Pokemon were interesting since they had the turnaround in gen 4 with the physical/special split. Gotta love dropping those STAB Seed Bombs.
Such a fun Pokémon to use on a team
So apparently there are patterns with mushroom Pokémon
-each line is a two stage
-each line has a completely unique secondary typing
-shroom lines are made every two gens
It has to be part of the plan. Right? Maybe?
They also all learn Spore
Brute bonnet is single stage tho
They usually have a chance of being found carrying either tiny mushroom or big mushroom in the wild. I believe once the gen 9 mushrooms be introduced in Pokemon GO they will give more stardust upon catch than regular too (a trend present in all mushroom pokemon).
@@sterlingdragon123 yeah and most water types can learn surf.
In all fairness, Convergent Mons are just an expansion of the variant concept. In addition to Variant Breeds, Paldea surprised me with how it’s given us more future potential for variants than most had ever considered. I remember when Regional Evolutions were introduced almost 4 years ago and everyone thought we had reached the pinnacle of the variant concept.
Also, Parasect is my favorite Kanto mon, and I’m also hoping it gets a variant one day. My personal hope is that they switch the fungus from a mushroom to that fungus that infects spiders and turns them into zombie puffballs.
I think there's room to make convergent mon more creative. An idea I have is a Rock/Electric desert rose, where the flowers are quartz. It is convergent to Budew
I was pretty meh on Parasect until I found your channel. Now I will forever associate it with you and your content so it's risen several notches in my eyes and I've come to appreciate it a lot more.
I had a pretty similar reaction to you when I first saw Toedscoel running about. It and Toedscruel quickly became two of my favorite Paldean Pokemon and it was a main stay on my team through my first run of Scarlet.
I love this. Apparently raising Parasect awareness has become a thing I do now. ☺️
Never knew Shiinotic and Parasect have a rivalry type thing going on, suppose its only natural you wouldn't be a fan lol. Personally, Shiinotic is actually probably my favorite mushroom Pokémon, I like how weird its proportions are and the almost creepy permanent smile it has. Feels sort of alien-like.
I liked that paradox Amoongus! It looks so menacing. But can't argue Parasect in gen 1 using Spore to catch wild pokemon. Playing Pokemon TPP and Parasect has been a suprise favorite on my team.
If it weren’t for that horrible speed, Parasect would be a scary teammate every time
@Paraspectre ya its moves with an anchor on its back. Slash being a crit nearly every time helps out a bunch to.
I genuinely wish Pokemon kept the quirk in Gen I where Bug was super effective against Poison (and vice versa). Leech Life would have continued to absolutely wreck the sheer number of Grass/Poison Pokemon, and I would have kept using Parasect outside of Gen I. As is, I remember using it to beat the rival's venasaur with its double resistance to razor leaf, and it also easily mopped up Erica's gym.
Heck yeah, I’ve also done this. Just gotta get through the slog of leveling up Paras
Toadscruel was a pillar of my team! As a fast special attack her carried his weight 😅 as soon as a I saw a toadscool running in the wild I knew I needed it.
Fun fact: mushrooms aren't plants, they are a separate biological kingdom all to themselves, Kingdom Fungi.
Breloom my beloved ♡ it's one of my favorite Pokémon for sure, and definitely fun to use competitively.
Breloom is a beast
I'd like to see a Parasect evolution that is Bug/Ghost where the mushroom parts of its body are translucent.
My ranking is almost identical to yours, except for my top three.
3: Toedscruel - it's an absolutely iconic rendition and i fully agree that it counts as a regional variant.
2. Parasect - truly one of the greats, but i think the fact that it's not even remotely one of my favorite gen 1 mons keeps it from the top spot.
1. Breloom. My beloved. The design, the typing, the move variety, it's not only my favorite mushroom, but it's also one of my favorites in general. In fact, the only gen 3 mon i like more is Absol.
A solid top 3 indeed. That would make for a fun team too
Hey Paraspectre, I made pokemon cookies a while back and you inspired me to make a parasect cookie. Id love to send a picture of it to you, if youre interested.
Absolutely! What a fantastic idea
A Look At Every Cicada Pokémon next? 👀
I mean it's only 5 pokemons in 2 evolutionnary lines so that's not a lot so probably not. X^)
Hey, you never know
Competitively, Breloom and Amoonguss are probably the best out of them, with Toedscruel (maybe Brute Bonnet?) as a close third. Breloom is excellent in Gens 3-5, with its powerful Attack stat, the fastest Spore out of the bunch, and two incredible abilities in Technician and the rare and amazing Poison Heal. Amoonguss has a similar advantage in Abilities- but instead, it has the incredible Regenerator. Any VGC player can tell you about Amoonguss!
In Gen 3 (ADV) OU, Breloom's Focus Punch is one of the strongest attacks out there, and considering two of the tier's best- Tyranitar and Blissey- absolutely DROP to fighting moves, it's pretty valuable there, especially when it sets up a Substitute. Spore is also a great help- or, if you ask some people, a great annoyance!
Very cool. Just got Scarlet after mostly playing Gens 1 to 3 so excited to check out some of the newer Pokémon. You could do a mouse Pokémon theme, for your shrew boys, but it might be a hell of a long list!
So many rodents. But it’s absolutely a possibility. I had a reason for talking about mushrooms, and I certainly have a reason for talking about Sandshrew.
I always thought Shroomish looked like a slightly cuter Goomba, and Breloom bears a passing resemblance to Yoshi. I always thought Shiinotic was like an eerie, otherworldly Toad.
I'm actually using a parasect on my fire red playthrough currently. People keep asking me why? And I tell them that I just wanted to use it. I'm kind of a bug type fanatic. I love most bug types and use at least 1 in almost every team. Paracect actually doesn't do terrible in newer Kanto games. Grass in general does pretty good in Kanto. As a gen 3 game it doest get acess to a ton of bug moves. But since leech life had been buffed and it can now learn X Scissor parasect is much better.
This was such a fun video. I have to say, in regards to mushrooms: I’m team Shroomish/Breelom. They’re just so cute. And they have such an interesting moveset. I remember Breelom being a staple in my team during gen4.
Breloom really is underrated. It was a tossup for me if I like Toedscruel more or not
@@Paraspectre you say that even though I'm sure quite a bit of people like me have positive opinions
One pokémon that was left out as an honourable mention is nacli, which apparently is based on a mushroom rock. Not technically a fungus, I guess, but it probably still could've been brought up.
The biological principle at play in ScVi is called ‘convergent evolution’. It’s the term for two animals that have similar features despite not being closely related at all. For example, a platypus has a bill-like mouth and lays eggs, so do ducks, but one is a mammal and the other is a bird!
the reason toedscool and toedscruel look like tentacool and tentacruel is because of a natural phenomena called convergent evolution where two species that are completely unrelated evolve to look similar. that's how toedscool and toedscruel can look like tentacool tenacruel without actually being related.
Damn. I wanted to go to sleep. Now I'll go through all mushroom pokémon.
The spores will help you sleep
Breloom is my 2nd favorite Pokémon! Sandslash is first.
The fact that these mushrooms can be removed from Paras but trainer still choose to evolve. It is so horrible.
I kind of wish that in gen 2 they swapped paras and parasect's grass with dark, it would have been so aesthetic and would have satiated my desire for mushrooms not being treated as plants
whenever i go to the grocery store i try to buy a dollar or so of loose mushrooms. its such a fun food and can make a lot of things so much savory and fun. if you ever wanted to try to get into mushrooms, see if your store sells white button mushrooms loose, so you can try a few and see if you like em
my favorite are chanterelle mushrooms. garlic herb butter or in a risotto are just amazing things
18:04 the whole idea of toedscool (and wugtrio) is the real-life concept of convergent evolution. Dolphins and sharks might have very similar body types, but aren't directly related in any way. Same idea here
There's another youtuber named Zen Mode who recently made a video about Paras and Parasect that I think would be _extremely_ up you alley.
Pretty sure Shiinotic is the only Pokémon to be posed facing directly forwards in its official art. Those beady little eyes creep me the fuck out…
That’s a good point, it’s very… not angled. I still don’t have much of an opinion on it
I knew this would come one day! Very much ecstatic to hear why Parasect is the best shroomie boi
Can’t be topped
🍄
🦀
Ha! Love the stuff you come up with to analyze.
Gotta keep some variety!
0:38 If you're talking about some fungi being disgusting, it would be better to have one that is disgusting as an illustration instead of the cool-looking one.
Haha well I hated it
Breloom is the best mushroom boi 👌
would be cool to give shuckle a shoutout, since its also a mold pokemon (fungus)
I wasn’t even thinking of Shuckle, but yeah, I guess that should count. It’s too turtley for me to think of it that way.
I'd love to see a regional form of Paras & Parasect. IDK how I'd rank them as I've only played Gens 1-4 & Gen 9, but for sure Breloom is #1 simply because it learns both Spore & False Swipe.
Parasect is my favorite pokemon of all time. Shiinotic is great too =]!!!
If Parasect is your favorite, you even have me beat. I guess you’re the new Paraspectre 😔
@@Paraspectre Haha, never. You’re too good at making great videos! Paraspectre will return in QUANTUM OF SOLROCK
your vids are fantastic and, as a fellow paras fan, I would genuinely love if you did a reaction vid to Zen Mode's Fixing Paras video (if you hadn't already seen it!)
I feel like mushroom season is fall
Perhaps. There are some in my yard right now, so it felt like the time
Not gonna lie, Morelull and Shiinotic are the two Pokemon I NEVER remember. Now, admittedly I paid very little attention to gen 7, but I at least remember the other pokemon from Alola since I pride myself on my Pokemon knowledge. With the Morelull line they're just so forgettable.
Pokemon Gen 1 is like a warm fuzzy blanquet.
I still love playing through Gen 1
Paras is the best!!!
Me before this video: How nice, a fun video about mushroom Pokemon! Should be a good time!
Me after this video, losing sleep at a red-string conspiracy board after being cursed with the knowledge that mushroom Pokemon are only in even nunbered gens, always have a unique type matched with grass, and always evolve once: I DON'T NEED SLEEP, I NEED ANSWERS
My og Parasect from red and blue was named M2k short for Mewtwo Killer. He was my only pokemon who could stand up to Mewtwo, helping me catch it. Long live Parasect.
I didn't really like Amoongus back when Gen 5 initially released, but come Gen 7 I hated Shiinotic even more to the point I learned to appreciate Amoongus for what it was. It also surprisingly cracks skulls in competitive, so I'm pretty much forced to tolerate it anyways. My personal list would be: 12. Shiinotic, 11. Empty slot to emphasize the gap between Shiinotic and the rest, 10. Morelull, 9. Amoongus, 8. Foongus, 7. Brute Bonnet (this might sway a lot in the future, since I only now just notice it has a freaking dinosaur tail that makes its design changes much more cohesive), 6. Toadscruel, 5. Toadscool (I've always liked Tentacool more than Tentacruel, for some reason), 4. Parasect, 3. Shroomish, 2. Paras, and 1. Breloom.
Now Parasect at number 4 may seem low, but do note that Toadscruel is a pretty average, middle-of-the-road design for me, while Parasect and up are easily in my top 10% favorite mons.
Now for some more competitively-oriented thoughts:
Parasect could use a regional variant, but what it really needs asap is a bst boost. 405 bst is _not_ it for a final evolution, only being outbadded by absolutely trash tier second stage final evos like Ariados, Ledian, and Delcatty. Freaking _Ponyta_ has a higher bst. Give it 10 points to Attack and 40 points to HP, and you have a semi-workable Spore spammer. Not at all destined for higher tiers of play, but not outclassed in every category by other Spore users as it is now.
Breloom and, as mentioned above, Amoongus are actually doing well competitively, with both of them kicking it in Smogon Gen 9 OU alongside monsters like Walking Wake and Dragonite. Toadscruel is also doing pretty well there, being a UU denizen. Shame that it's signature ability is pretty much just a worse Mold Breaker, though; gotta keep Spore in check for VGC somehow.
As much as I dislike Shiinotic's design, a counterpart is a counterpart. If Parasect is offered a 50 bst boost, I'll recommend one for Shiinotic as well. Give it the same boost of 40 HP, and instead of Attack, put the remaining 10 into Sp. Atk. The HP boost alone makes it a tough to break Strength Sap abuser, and base 100 Sp. Atk is nothing to sneeze at when it is throwing around chunky Moonblasts. I'll even throw in a buff idea for Illuminate: Have it boost the power of light-based moves by 30%. If Moonblast falls under that category, being the redirected power of moonlight and all, then it has access to some nasty 124 bp cannonballs right there.
Last, but certainly not least, is Brute Bonnet. IIRC, it's a threat in VGC, but in Smogon Singles, it has slumped down to RU - far below its more meek looking descendant, ironically. The main issue with it is that the _only_ way to buff it is to buff its movepool. But luckily for it, its movepool is a bit lacking and can easily be bumped up. The elemental fangs are an easy pick, being staple coverage moves for many mons while not being too oppressive in terms of raw power. Recover could be an option for it that allows it to have a less weather dependant form of recovery. And in the same vein, giving it Strength Sap would allow it to smack around many physical threats that otherwise slowly wear it down. And the biggest boon for it would be physical STAB that is around 120 bp. Since Wood Hammer wouldn't fit thematically, a new Grass or Dark type Close Combat variant would be needed; immediately boosting its 127 base Attack into something to be truly feared, outputting damage in the same realm as a Close Combat throwing, Headlong Rushing Great Tusk.
Shroomish is very Goomba
From my least to most favorite:
*11: Shiinotic* - artwork’s pretty creepy, but its animations are kinda cute
*10: Morelull* - pretty cute, its evo line is just overshadowed by the others, guess being luminescent doesn’t help with that
*9: Amoonguss* - I respect it for pulling double duty as both a mushroom mon and a mimic, but I think its design does each of those two roles worse than the mons before it
*8: Foongus* - same logic as Amoonguss, but substantially cuter
*7: Shroomish* - he’s a funny guy
*6: Brute Bonnet* - if Amoonguss had knees it would fall to them, realizing it is not Brute Bonnet
*5: Parasect* - easily one of the most interesting Gen 1 designs in both concept and execution, it’s a shame it isn’t stronger
*4: Paras* - same logic as Parasect, also it’s really cute
*3: Toedscruel* - extremely cool, need I say more
*2: Toedscool* - the funniest guy
*1: Breloom* - I just love this thing, used it in ORAS and it was very strong, plus I think its design is neat
Honestly, though they don't justify a new type quantity wise, mushrooms are different enough from plants to differentiate in a different type, maybe even more so than insects. A Grass/Mushroom mon would still be pretty bad because of two double weaknesses, to Fire and Ice, and would have a double resistance to Grass and Ground, possibly Mushroom too, but that's where the similarities end.
While birds eat plants and insects, many mushrooms, including kinds edible by other animals (including us Humans), are deadly to birds, so Mushroom would actually resist Flying. Poison could also be resisted, as many mushrooms are notoriously poisonous to everyone. If the Light type was ever introduced, Grass would obviously resist and be super effective against it, while Bug would possibly be resisted by it. Meanwhile, Mushroom Pokemon would not only be resisted, but also weak to Light.
Oh yeah, another detail to bring up about Breloom, apparently it's able to stretch its little T-Rex arms to punch better, which I choose to believe is a reference to Dhalsim from Street Fighter, because Breloom is a Fighting type.
Of the mushroom Pokemon, Breloom is my favorite. Fighting is high on my list of top five types, so it's high among the best, and it's a perfect example of a Pokemon that is cute AND cool. A lot are one or the other but it's very hard to be both. Toedscruel and Brute Bonnet are 2 and 3, not sure which order they'd be. Then Parasect and Shiinotic, then all the unevolved ones.
Both toedscool and toedscruel have the exact same stats as tentacool and tentacruel, respectively, which kind of explain why both have higher speed then the other mushroom pokemon (somehow jellyfish from Gen 1 are pretty fast). Also, loved the use of "Beware the forest mushrooms" theme from SMRPG!
Hearing the praises for Brute Bonnet in this video, and then watching somebody dump Shiitake over the design in another video, just reminds me that there is no perfect Pokemon, and everyone has their preferences.
Also, I've always been a fan of Paras/Parasects design, and always having one in my teams, and then sadly boxing and forgetting about them as well. Def in need of a buff.
Fun fact: an Mushroom Pokemon is introduced in every uneven numbered gen (being in 1,3,5,7 and 9) ...and fungi aren't plant, so why are they Grass type lol
I don’t think it has to be a plant to be a grass type. Like Exeggcute. What’s even going on there.
@@Paraspectre i guess at the very least Eggxecute is kinda based on coconuts, with are plants, one that doesn't make sense at all is Cradilly, being an weird sea lily/anemone, an animal
Still, why the hell is Grass type called that instead of just Plant type baffles me to this day
@@realsalu634 in the game "Temtem" they call it Nature type
I enjoyed this.
But as far as I know, Paradox Pokémon are not past/future relatives.
It's funny that your UA-cam username is Paraspectre, which is what I always imagined the name of a Parasect evolution to be!
What are those card-like things you're pulling up as you showcase the pokemon? Some kind of tabletop game?
Parasect is my favourite pokemon, I just wish it'd get acknowledged more
More shroom recognition
For amoongus you could've made an among us joke
Edit: paradox pkmn are technically imagined creatured not actually from any time period
Hey paras 😂 I have a question how do you multiply if your basically a zombie insect can't say spores lol that cheating.
I always forget Shiinotic exists, although every time I see it, it reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Mr. Burns gets mistaken for an alien
Oh my god, looking at Shiinotic in this videio, I just realize that its pants resemble milcery.
Some day i hope they make a line of pokemon to represent an uninfected parasect line, and an evolution to parasect in the vein of anihilape. Make it ghost/grass and make it a little tankier and itd be an alright trick room user
18:07 its based on convergent evolution, so that body is just peak performance.
Shiinotic reminds me of the evil mushrooms from Mario and Luigi Partners in Time
Shiinotic is my favorite pokemon I've never used. It's an alien that's cool af. With the ufo hat very spicey
I hate mushrooms, too. Unless they're magical ✨️
These UA-camrs are running out of ideas. And then say the same facts we’ve heard a million times already.
I liked toedscool and then hated toedscruel. Definitely because the original is one of my favourite pokemon
Game freak declared that by law every odd numbered generation must have a two stage mushroom line of a type combo not shared by the others
I loved using Parasect in Radical Red. Its not the best but with better bulk and attack and some much needed improvementa to its movepool it definitely has a seriois nieche
I have a Vileplume tattoo and the untrained eye often refers to it as “mushroom guy” lol
i was thinking of a team consisting only of mollusks, i feel like that would go well for this series. i love mushrooms and mollusks
I like listening to your videos after work to help me fall asleep. Your voice is very soothing
11:26 an 8" mushroom that weight 2+lbs is actually insane to consider
Nice
Amoongus is Sus... How did you not make one among us reference 🤣🤣🤣
Amoongus is Sus... How did you not make one among us reference 🤣🤣🤣
Shinotic looks like Roger from American Dad to me. 😅
For some reason UA-cam didn’t notify me about this video.
Interesting video, thanks for the upload. My list would be quite different (maybe because I actually like mushrooms?). Shiinotic line and Toedscruel line would certainly be swapped, more appreciation for normal Amoongus as well. Brute Bonnet I don't care for very much, if they added a ton more spikes to the head and arm caps so it would look like lycoperdon echinatum that would put it back in the running.
I just love Brute Bonnet’s angry looking razor mouth with the spikes on top.
They should give Parasect a further evolution
Shuckle as an endolith could have been a good honorable mention.
Do you think the Paras line should be looked at like Slowbro with Shellder? Is the mushroom its own actual pokemon? What if the regional variants for Paras are Nincada and Foongus that just don’t interact with each other.
I do think we need a new term for pokemon like Toadscool and Wigglet that are based on convergent evolution instead of regional variant’s divergent evolution. Would Sharpedo and Crawdaunt count as those?
Interesting point about the comparison to Slowbro and Shellder… in a different world, Shroomish already existed and Parasect would be beige and green
I guess i have to wait to join the patreon. I need to get that Skitty card
Toedscool is so fking goofy/stupid but I kind of love it.
Parisect really should be grass/ghost type
Until today I just assumed Foongus and Amoongus mouth was actually it's nose.
I thought they were like Mushroom pigs.
I never watched the anime past sinnoh and I never used either in a game so I didnt see them much and didnt know that was it's mouth
Haha I can see that. I didn’t think that myself, but it’s there.
Have you managed to catch a shiny version of your mascot?
If parasect were real I'd burn it and everything in a ten mile radius. disgusting pokemon
The words should hurt, but I chuckled instead.
the paras episode of the anime was the best episode ever made
don’t think it don’t say it don’t think it don’t say it
So what's your favorite Pizza topping?
Minced garlic, why do you ask? 🍄🚫
I despise mushrooms personally. You'd have to trick me into eating them physically. Flavored by mushrooms is fine, but they're existentially terrifying to me. I feel their spores latch and begin to fruit my insides. Also bad mouth texture makes me want to cry. But Paras is my fav Pokémon 💛
Haha I love the ending line. And yes, I agree. They don’t seem like something we’re meant to eat.
What you got to try mushrooms on your pizza.
Amoongus is my dude. Top 5 of the more recent pokemons they have made. I love that he actually gets love in competitive play bc he is so annoying. Lol
I’ve never actually used one. A full mushroom team has to happen someday though
@@Paraspectre do it!
