Would strongly recommend the sheer offensive power combined with Lance movement and the same amount of survivability there is no reason to run a base Lance

You can definitely play a more offensive orientated version of Lance, but in Rise it is absolutely the most defensive weapon by default. It's why I quite liked Valor Lance in MHGU, just a wildly different playstyle where you could be hyper aggressive once you got it down (and it was super fun to get the hang of). But even then I preferred Valor GL which was just hilarious once you understood how to properly combo it.

This video actually inspired me to play Gunlance, and it's what I beat the game with. Didn't really like it in World, but coming back to it in Rise, it became on of my favorites. Thanks for the inspiration, my guy
that's.... kinda sad given how much worse it is in rise, despite all the mechanical buffs it received.

Hail Cutter seems bad until you realize you can pull it off in the air- blast dash, air shell, then ZL+A to get all the benefits with none of the downside
Combine this with max artillery and wirebug whisperer, and you can do 4 wyvernfires in a single minute

Most likely. I think that for IG they will replace "Jump 2" with maybe a counter. Even though it would be kind of unoriginal to give another weapon a counter, it could make unique uses of the Jamba Juice you got loaded up.

This was available in MHGU, but not the ability to redirect in mid "flight," so to speak. I generally ignored blast dash in GU in favor of far better Hunter Arts. It's good to see it's brought forward in a far more useful capacity.

But seriously, gunlance rocks in this game. Soar across the map because you can, counter to regain sharpness, super armor in the special attack, it's wacky.

Editing was incredible and somehow still getting better every upload, but i feel the music could’ve been synced way better at certain points. Namely the use of songs like You Will Know our Names and Dark Star Core. With hype songs like that ya gotta sync and capitalize on it rather than just use it as basic bgm. I recommend something like Blazblue or Anarchy Reigns if you want a badass bgm but aren’t necessarily going to directly sync the gameplay pacing up with it. As far as what i mean by syncing the pacing, i’m sure you know cause you absolutely nailed that with the last bit.

When you're a Regular Lance main, and you're stuck looking at THIS.
When like, the sickest new thing you can do in Rise is duct tape yourself to a part of the monster.
But at least y'all have a shield bash move.
Gunlance doesn't even have a way to do stun damage, with the sole exception of using Wyvern's Fire with Wide Shelling.
...Basically, no consistent stun damage.
@@TornaitSuperBird I've been maining Lance in Monster Hunter since like 2013 and I don't think I've ever used the Shield Bash in my life. I don't even know what the button combo for that move is.
All I know is poke poke poke. Sometime I even use the run move. And if I believe in myself I might do a counter on occasion.

Edit: Gunlance is easily by far the weapon that benefited from/needed the switch skills the most. Because I gotta be honest: It was always my favorite but it was just so bland and boring, not even World could quite fix it, although it went into the right direction. And my god, Rise tried so hard to fix it and they succeeded so hard. The switch skills are all *P E R F E C T* . Although, they give you literally no reason to ever even think about using the originals, I don't think anyone will miss them, and it wouldn't be a surprise if the switch skills were to straight up replace the original moves in the next game

I still prefer charged shelling though the guard reload I agree with. charged shelling goes straight into wyrmstake. It's OP.
@@DevilJhoMama that is true. But guard reload plus charged shells wyrmstake spam is a playstyle of its own. Thats whats so nice about gunlance in rise now. You have playstyles which you can use with any shelling type although some shelling type do give you extra damage.
I mean I use quick reload because it fully reloads my shells and I usually focus on full burst. Speaking of full burst, I don't even use Blast Dash because what they don't tell you is Charged Shellings gives you access to the Midair Burst, while Blast Dash removes the remove. It's so fun and a great way to get a bunch of quick, free damage on an approach after using wirebug.
@@FrostyTheCookie pressing ZR in the air twice works with blastdash, just lose one bullet.

I already use like half the weapons in the game to keep myself from getting bored too quickly. I didn’t really like gunlance in the demo, but after seeing this I’ll have to consider giving it another shot.
My secondary is gunlance, and this makes me quite exited for when I start MHR
The thing is that I loved the gunlance since I started playing mh but I didn't mained it in gu because of bad movement in my opinion but now I am so happy the gunlance is so STRONG

I may not be onto my gunlance kick in rise just yet, but its most certainly high on the list.
When I used it and found how blast dash was, it made the hunts almost too fun lol XD
I've been a gunlance main since freedom unite.
Blast dash is obsolete by Sunbreak adding in a blast dash that uses a wirebug, it ALSO DOES STUN DAMAGE (if you impact a monster during flight with the shield.) AND GIVES YOU *IMMUNITY FRAMES FOR LIKE A YEAR*. if you combine this with ground slash or rising slash, you can really do some funny crazy silly gamer stuff.
However, Bullet Barrage is my favorite because of obvious reasons.
ALSO AGAIN, you can COMBINE blast dash with wirebug dash to dash up to 9 TIMES IN THE AIR.

Okay, Serious talk here. As a gunlance main, I can say with full certainty, CHARGED SHELLING IS UTTER GARBAGE. it takes more time to do for a relatively small amount of extra damage. Blast Dash on the other hand is amazing, because gunlance severely lacks unsheathed mobility, because you can only step in directions for like half of the distance of a roll.
