Internally I refuse to accept the 360 being considered retro. Next year the 360 will reach 20 years of age meaning it’ll officially be considered vintage which hurts even worse. Vintage items then when the 360 releases were items from 1985.

Also as far as discs not working, no they do not test them, but the warehouse *does* have resurfacing machines. So if a store sees a lot of scratches and marks it as defective, the warehouse will resurface it, but a lot of employees don't check (or care)

They should rename their stores, its no longer a Gaming Stop, they sell a bunch of merchandise now and I dont think thats a bad thing for figure collectors card collectors and anime merch etc Its important to have more stores as another source or outlet to compete with one another and options when things sell out in one place. Ofc they should still have gaming products, gaming sub or currency cards, gaming figures etc

GameStop would come back from the dead if they fully embraced full blown retro! GameCube, ps2 PS3 360 Wii, Wii U NDS gba ps1 etc etc. They would be kings again. Seriously in 2024! We are yearning for older games more than ever before!

My local electronics store will always be better than Gamestop in terms of new and used electronics. The prices are reasonable, they always remove the scratches on discs with their disc scratch remover machine, they always clean up the used consoles they get, and they always got games for every console on the shelves. And they are definently not as big as Gamestop by a long shot.

Video game stores that specialize in games in the US and Germany (only other country I’ve been to that I’ve seen one) have such a wider selection than GameStop ever will. Always go to those instead. And in the states even some stores that don’t specialize in video games too much but are more for movies still have a selection of retro games and consoles. For example, there’s a place that’s kinda nationwide in the states (if I remember correctly) called Movie Trading Company (called EntertainMart in some states like Colorado, Utah and Idaho) that is just like that as well as a place near where I live called eStarland.

Honestly if I was running GameStop I would first consolidate the stores to being in only all Major Cities. Then automate the in-store process as much as possible so it could be ran by a maximum of 3 employees. This would then allow for the company to offer competitive pay to qualified individuals that are passionate about the industry at large and offer the best in-person experience for consumers. Then I’d go on a massive shopping spree and buy up the majority of retro games from the secondary market. At which point would then pivot the business towards a retro gaming rebrand. Because, if we’re being honest we won’t have physical games by next gen aside from maybe Nintendo. This would slowly take out all the retro game stores in major cities giving GameStop a huge advantage. But this would also create a void in non major cities where new and existing mom & pop stores can thrive. Ultimately shifting the way buying games at large works.

I would be very hesitant to trust graded cards from them. There’s many grading companies out there and there standards vary. Pokémon collectors like me tend to use PSA for grading. CGC and Becket are also acceptable though. I have a feeling they would be using one of the lower tier graders for cards.

    • @LeoKira997

I walked into my local Gamestop this past April for the first time in like 8 years. I just bought a Xbox series X and was excited to buy some used games and look at the new ones. They didn't have much, no used titles that I could see. I asked the clerk and he told me that they didn't have much stock and to try another location and also mentioned the competition. They had Pokémon and stuffed animals. What the hell happened to the video game scene.
