When I turned 18, she sat me down for a talk, and made some modifications to the rules, like I could go out and do whatever she just asked that I call her to let her know if I was coming home or not so she could lock the door. I immediately got a job and started working. The place we lived at was owned by my grandparents and they offered to sell me the place so I took their offer and bought it.

I had to go through the same experience when I turned 18. Both my parents and my sibblings planned the all thing!!! I never did anything wrong. I was kind, loving, had good friends, good marks but I wasn't good enough for them. My primary school teacher took me in and saved my life. She helped me by keeping me safe and by giving me the emotional support and a best friend and a mother I needed. I managed to get a job and pay for my College fees. I now hold a Masters Degree and became a Teacher as my Primary was my inspiration.
My family never saw my face again as I made a promise to myself to never let anyone treat me wrong...

And of course, the bloody mother decided to poke fun at her child (and then being a hypocrite and “tries” to bring him back into his life after finding out he not only has a job but is now helping his friend’s mom to pay rent).
Sometimes, I don’t understand how American parents treat their children these days, especially when they officially become an adult at 18. I feel like there’s not a lot of motivational support in U.S. American parenting compared to European (especially Eastern), Latin American, Asian, Middle Eastern, and African parenting.

I'll be honest, judging from his reaction he probably knew it was coming and that his own blood mother is a piece of trash and it still hurt but he strong enough to not show it.
But the young man luckily had someone else there for him and managed to pull himself up by his bootstraps and repay that kindness, all while hopefully managing to get rid of a stinker in his life forever.
So in the end, it is a positive, and I hope he finds great happiness in his life and doesnt let creatures like this bog him down a single thought. 💪

Stepmother did the same thing after my dad passed. She wanted more money and control and I declined. Out of a $1200 check, I was only left with 100 or at times $50. I moved in with a friend, changed my bank account, closed my Chase account and I had more money than ever before. My mother used to “joke” about buying me a suitcase for my 18th birthday. I was a “problem child” because I didn’t tolerate the drunken abuse of my stepfather. I joined the Marine Corps and found a new family. If your mother is like this, run, find a new family and don’t ever go back. This type of emotional abuse will ruin your life if you let it. Only keep in touch if they make meaningful changes. You don’t owe your parents anything besides honoring them, sometimes that means becoming a better person than them and leaving them in the past.
