Two Aircraft Carriers named Enterprise in one video. That was a treat! CVN-65 Enterprise next to CVN-79 JFK and CVN-80 Enterprise under construction. HELL, YEAH!!!
@@nicholasmaude6906 Sadly, not possible due to the method required for removal of the reactors. I'm not sure why they couldn't just seal up the power plant accesses and make her a museum, but they didn't.

I worked on Nimitz class Carriers for 10 of my 27 years at PSNS. Deadload days were always my favorite days. I was always assigned to the 03 level and above, so it was easy for me and my partner to park ourselves somewhere on the island to watch. One time, we managed to "need" to go up to the masthead for a lighting repair. That was the best!
I am a former Ike sailor who served on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower right after it was commissioned and made its first Med Cruise, thank you for your work and getting us all through deployment and return home safe. My uncle worked at Newport News Ship Building and helped build Ike, so it made it extra special for me.
Yeah sadly it won't be built until after the Kennedy. The Kennedy was started in 2009 but wasn't going to be completed until 2019 but they moved that to 2025. It'll be awhile before we see it.
God bless our ship builders for all that they do day in and day out. Your dedication and craftsmanship are next to none. GOD Bless you each and everyone of you. 👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏
I thought they changed the name. Glad to see that it's still like it has been...amazing all the way from start to finish! Old man named Mr. LaRue taught me welding at TCC around 1986. He was a 42 yr. Veteran of this if I recall correctly. Wish I had joined the yards many many times.
I love these videos. She's a "Structural Engineer" and she probably has more education than 97% of the people who will ever operate on that ship. Hats off to you!
Newport News IS the carrier yard. In WWII they turned out nine Essexs, two Midways , and post war four Forrestal/Kitty Hawks and all the nuke carriers.
2 more carriers are being built after the Kennedy. It'll be a very long wait till you see them. Try at the earliest 20 years. The Kennedy was started in 2009 but won't be completed until 2025.
I get its historical value as a museum piece, but should drydock resources be used at this critical period when the US Navy is facing 2 possible conflicts.
''earth the modern world, these are the continuing voyages of the warship..ENTERPRISE her ongoing mission to explore strange new challenges, to seek out new enemies and free civilizations to boldly go where no one has gone before''.
Rather too late as there is a Newport News pr video of the Gerald Ford been built and those areas were not blurred. They blur the torpedo protection/ side tank system in one shot and engines/turbine floor amongst other images. None of which were blurred in the Gerald Ford build pr video. Still shots exist too in the public arena. Basically the side protection system is an evolution design originating with the USS Midway which was an evolution design from the original USS Saratoga of the 1920's. The real change is in materials used, inclination of the inner 'Armour' belt/ torpedo protection system and the depth of its position within the hull.
Such a shame it’s only company that has the skills to build aircraft carriers,,,America needs to increase capacity and build six at one time …sadly lack of investment in apprenticeship for people to gain these skills….
Agree, we should go back to using traditional names for carriers, not politicians. No disrespect to Doris Miller, but that would have been an excellent name for an Arleigh Burke class destroyer, a pretty badass ship in its own right.
I am from Westmoreland County, Va where George Washington was born and grew up about 4 miles from his Birthplace. I was an AZ2 assigned to the HS-11 Dragon Slayers, on my 2nd deployment in the Navy which was the 3rd deployment of the GW. So to be onboard a ship named after our nation's 1st President who is from my home county was a very awesome experience. '97/'98. A few years later, my brother did a deplyment onboard the GW with the HS-5 Nightdippers. My 3rd and 4th deployments were onboard the U.S.S. Harry S. Truman while I was assigned to the HS-7 Dusty Dogs. '02/'03 & '04/'05. And I did a two week deploment onboard the Stennis with HS-7.
I wouldn't serve on any ship built by this yard..I hope their contracts are taken away they don't deserve the honor of building these ships .I've witnessed first hand the work they do and it's embarrassing ..
Thanks to all of our ship builders. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Just sad to see CVN 65 in such a state. In my mind, she's still as ready to go as she was the day I left her, in 1984.
@@johnjones5354She’s been rode hard for a prototype. Helluva ship.
And the US should be spending serious money to preserve the CVN-65 just like USS Nautilus (The first nuclear-powered submarine) was preserved.

Worked as a chemist from two weeks after graduation in 1971 until 1990. Did sea trials on the Nimitz. Great job.

It's jaw-dropping to see two Ford class are being built side by side, one Ford is testing EMALS dead load test, and a Nimitz in maintenance. Wow!
Many years ago I stood next to the SSBN USS Newport News and watched her slide down the ramp into the water Fantastic launch I'll always remember
We have had an Enterprise in our Navy since the revolution, the original was a 16 gun sloop of war that vanished with all hands....
Uss enterprise CVN-65 2009-2010
Let history never forget the name of Enterprise
Dang, I spent some time in one of those drydocks on USS Nimitz. God bless the American Shipyard Workers and Riggers! AMEN
I worked in the Machine Shops Division from 71-74 while we were building the Nimitz, South Carolina, California, and Los Angeles....G. Edwards
I LOVE hearing from the workers. Thank you for the great work you do!

Don't bet your life on that statement. All sailors are constantly taking classes on a variety of subjects.

Many older Navy yards are not being used after Clinton shut them down.
Return of the gray ghost ❤. CVN80
@Revymercenary CVN80 will be the third Aircraft carrier to bear the name of Enterprise.CV6,CVN65 and now CVN80
Newport News wasn't satisfied skipping rocks - they decided to skip multi-ton orange sleds!
This inspires me. Thank you, Huntington Ingalls.
I visited this place decades ago.
We need a major modern shipbuilder in the Great Lakes. PS - Don't speak of LCS
That's some pretty cool stuff right there! I kinda wish I would've chosen a career in ship building rather than my current line of work.
Let' make sure that history never forgets. The name. Enterprise.

All of them. They float.

why Dorris Miller? i know his story but there are much better names to call a carrier Kitty Hawk Yorktown Lexington ect ect

I love following the carrier build program but everyone sounds so scripted and indoctrinated into corporate speak it becomes suspicious.

How is it that the old Enterprise isn't further along in its deconstruction process after all these years?
Have you ever dismantled a Nuclear carrier? Neither has the Navy.
