Yeah. When I got that email in 2017 from the marketing wank saying I was doing a disservice to my audience by not showing them the FR-810 I knew it was over. That was a relationship I had to start mourning, a company that would say something that ballsy about a piece of equipment that bad was a company that lost any hope of producing good products again.

I just bought an Atten a couple weeks ago. It came with an assortment of nozzles, including bent ones, and the temperature wasn't locked out of the box. So far I love it!
The Atten is a great unit. Bought one from Rossmann Group. Please keep in mind if you hold the button, it turns off the heating element. You'll still be able to raise and lower the temp and speed, but no heat will come out. IT IS NOT BROKEN!!! I thought my heating element had failed, but it's just that button on the handpiece. Press and hold to switch between HOT and COLD.

Atten is quite impressive. Someone on your discord mentioned to email them directly since you where out of stock. As of today, yes Atten has bent nozzles. At AliExpress, they call it _"ATTEN ST-862D 45 Degree Bent Curved Nozzle"._ The angle is 45deg. and you can select from three different diameters, the same you mentioned they've made for you: 6.4mm, 8.7mm and 12.7mm. It costs 8 dollars USD. Btw, the business dynamic you depict at the end is so true! It's like a couple: the moment one loses respect for the other, taking him/her for granted, the relation goes down the drain and eventually to a divorce.
This is so out of my wheel house, but I really appreciate the content and style of presentation here. I'm a social worker, but i'd like to learn more about this field - you've got me intrigued.
Ordered my first ever hot air station from Amazon which was a Yihua... which self destructed the first time I turned the hot air on (went bright orange it got soo hot before tripping the breakers). That got sent back. Then got an Atten and that was weaker than a limp noodle. That went back too. Then I got my Quick 861DW. Still using it to this day. Lovely bit of kit. I really should get a bunch of spares in while they are still available.
Hey Louis! Greetings from the UK. Thank you for your take on both stations. I've just ordered the Quick. It'll be here Friday from Amazon so looking forward to using it. Happy New year to you my friend. Hopefully 2021 is better than 2020. Stay safe and well...
This is what I love about the channel. It has videos that are easily digestable to the general public, and 40 minute videos meant for people of the industry.
form follows function.... its a mantra that has been lost in the 21st century - glitz and flashy lights seem to rule over usability consistency and reliably now... your spot on... a rotary switch would make it even better
I'm an amateur electronics buff just learning at this stuff, but I got into hot air guns recently thanks to Louis. I always thought irons were the only way to work with solder, until I tried working on more complex stuff like motherboards with vias, SMDs, and large solder joints. I found out quickly that irons are almost useless for that work. I started watching Louis's repair videos with hot air stations, and my understanding of how to work with solder was revolutionized.
I was stunned to hear that they didn't have bent-nozzles already. That's mind-boggling. I'd have thought any hot-air station would offer that. Still like em. Thanks for the review.
For the first video i saw, i was just looking for some electronics stuff, but definitely the philosophy was the thing that made me stay Thanks for sharing
Making this comment as a paceholder. When I get home I'm gonna see what model I have. I bought some cheap $68 hot air station that had an attached soldering iron. This thing has worked AMAZINGLY I bought it a Fry's of all places. Actual knobs for air and temp, as well as on the iron. Each has its own display for temp. It stays where I set it every time. That thing has been transported to jobs. slammed around in my trunk for months. I've been using it for years. Will update later.
I love my at-sa-50 :) it's my favorite soldering iron so far (I don't have enough money for a station and I just solder as a hobby), nice to see that they're vfm with other models too.
Man you are a saviour, I was looking for a decent and affordable hot air station for a while and after seeing this review I'm most likely going with the Atten. Would you consider doing a long term review with the Atten as your main station since you already used the quick for quite a while and proved it's longevity. Thanks again.
My cars electronics have been breaking steadily as the damn thing gets older, I ripped mine apart recently to find out what one of those issues was. It was a circuit board that I guess Ford doesn't manufacture anymore so I had to repair it instead. Brought out the hakko 951 and resoldered all the joints, it works again! The Atten or Quick is next on my buy list.
I look forward to the video about the internals, the box looks nice on the outside, but if it's a chinesium ratsnest on the inside that would be a disappointment.. I bought a "Leny" 851D, and it's pretty much breadboard inside.. I like the interface on it, and they have a 20V power supply (0.1V increment) and it can measure voltage as well.. all handy functions.. just wish both of the power supply to that part of it died on both of them.. on one of them it went up in a cloud of magic smoke on first power-up.. The rest of it still works so it does what I need. You should also measure the actual temperature calibration between them!
After 11 years of daily use, my cheap $100 852++ station has finally died. I've fixed the element in the hot air wand a couple times, and I never used the soldering iron, but now the air seems to have died. Not sure if it's the pump or the board, and I just don't have time to waste on it. I was just looking at the Hakko one but the reviews were bad, and someone mentioned you and the Quick. I remembered watching this video here a few years ago, so I came looking for it.
Well, I ordered a Quick from TEquipment, but did decide to open my 852++ and see if I could make it work for a couple of days. The pump worked if I gave it 110v. The problem ended up being a bad potentiometer. I found some on Amazon for $8, so I'll probably fix it and throw it on a shelf as an emergency backup. For now, I'll just put a plug on it and power the pump with my variac.
Good to know all the behind the scenes crap you don't find out about until it's too late. Give the customer what they want. Easy to use interface, No. Speedy delivery after you took my money, No. We'll ship it whenever we feel like it. Too many reviewers giving dishonest review because they are being paid. Now you on the other hand tell it like it is. Don't try to screw over Rossman because we will find out about you. Good business sense also. Keep them coming.
HI Louis, I have seen some sellers selling this BST-863 - it is rated at 1200w and comes in a bit cheaper than the Atten and apparently has a reasonable build quality as well compared to these. It might be worth you also checking that one out
You can see the inside on the Atten website but still gonna need louis's input. If he's calm must be alright but if he turns into a rabid dog you've been warned.
Hi Louis, Great review and straight to the point, Ive always steared away from Atten but that station looks pretty cool. One thing though I use the Quick 861DW, Ive had it for a couple of years now and always seemed to do the job but recently i noticed things were taking a little too long to remove from boards, so i read the destructables and found i could calibrate the quick. after testing the temp with a heat probe at 300 (low) it only gave out 267 degrees C and High 500 Degrees it gave out 468 degrees. so after calibration (in the manual :-) it now gives out the correct temps again.. is yours calibrated correctly?.... just a thought. keep up the great work and STAY SAFE
REWRITTEN: FORMATTED CORRECTED TEXT I found that I could calibrate the QUICK. After testing the temp with a heat probe at 300 (low) it only produced 267 degrees C and High 500 Degrees it produced 468 Degrees. So after calibration ( described in the manual ) it now produces the correct temperature again.
My sentiments exactly, the first best thing of any product is it usability, it should be intuitive to use. Who in these companies decides that the product they’ve made or changed is a good idea, they should find an independent user to review the product before final release, and actually listen to what they say, it’s just common sense.
Have you noticed there are 2 straight nozzles and 2 spiraled nozzles in the box? "The hot air rework station with 4Pcs nozzles which are straight air and spiral air optional. Protect the IC chip. 5mm 8mm straight air nozzles. 8mm 10mm spiral air nozzles." Would be interested if you can compare the straight 8mm and the spiraled 8mm and see if there is any difference.
Just got an St-862d and wanted to point out that straight out of the box it did not have lock engaged. Appears that it can be activated if you want it, but is off by default on mine at least.
@@g3ntz1 It was actually much cheaper than that on AliExpress but the shipping got it to $170. I just looked and it looks like $180 is the cheapest total now
I'm not sure if I had just been lucky, but all 4 of the cheapo Chinese hot air stations I've purchased in the $130-$200 range on ebay since 2003 have been good, until the my fifth, an 858D, which doesn't get hot enough (though only cost about $50). I tried a knockoff 861DW and it gets hot enough, but the temps are significantly off vs my olders ones. As you mention, you can't trust the temperature accuracy. Although, temperature accuracy on my older ones seemed pretty consistant and they all melt solder well at 360-380, while I have to turn the Quick knockoff up to 430-440 to do the same.
I'm looking into finding or obtaining open source program to tap into controller chip to ajust temp to accuracy. The language translation will be a hindrance though
I have no experience or background in this area, yet I am finding that learning new things which I might never apply is satisfying. Walking in a winter wonder land?
Just got the ATTEN model delivered and I already tested it with an SMD component. Thanks for your recommendation on the bent nozzle as well. It's pretty good for the price!

Hey Louis, I was a customer a couple years ago, just wanted to thank you man. I have a Macbook Pro Retina early 2015 edition. I was wondering whats the cost to upgrade the RAM on it from 8GB to 16GB?
You have to love the fact they called it the 862. eight six TWO. One more betterer! I would love to see the insides, if the MCU is in any way hackable like with the TS100 the community will have a better firmware with actual usability for it in no time.
For me OKI METCAL HCT-900-21 230v EU Version (HCT-900-11 115v) is what I use with analogue control and parts are still available considering the unit is old. Heat is very constant and the handle by far the smallest and ergonomic. However only downside Metcal is you have to manually turn down temp when resting on stand. 😊👍
Hi Louis Please test the Atten ST-862D temperature accuracy/stability compared to the Quick and see if the temperature can be calibrated (like the Quick can be). Also if you feel like it, take the case off of both and compare. Thanks Louis.
What about build quality and safety? If it means the station is way less likely to burn my house down (let's be real, they are both cheap), then I will gladly spend a bit more.

The Atten is my Christmas
Toy for 2020.... alongside some tool selections and AmTech items from your online store...
This is so out of my wheel house, but I really appreciate the content and style of presentation here.
I'm a social worker, but i'd like to learn more about this field - you've got me intrigued.
You must start with me, for the basic b4 go to louise
Ordered my first ever hot air station from Amazon which was a Yihua... which self destructed the first time I turned the hot air on (went bright orange it got soo hot before tripping the breakers). That got sent back. Then got an Atten and that was weaker than a limp noodle. That went back too.
Then I got my Quick 861DW. Still using it to this day. Lovely bit of kit. I really should get a bunch of spares in while they are still available.
The review was great, but the life advice in the last five minutes is the best part
Hey Louis! Greetings from the UK. Thank you for your take on both stations. I've just ordered the Quick. It'll be here Friday from Amazon so looking forward to using it. Happy New year to you my friend. Hopefully 2021 is better than 2020. Stay safe and well...
Louis nice humming of Christmas music. The best time of year.
I think I'm gonna have to invest in one of these once I get into heavier soldering jobs. Always learning something from your content. Keep it up man!
Thanks for the review.
looks like they have them its on the website already..
For the first video i saw, i was just looking for some electronics stuff, but definitely the philosophy was the thing that made me stay
Thanks for sharing
Making this comment as a paceholder. When I get home I'm gonna see what model I have. I bought some cheap $68 hot air station that had an attached soldering iron. This thing has worked AMAZINGLY I bought it a Fry's of all places. Actual knobs for air and temp, as well as on the iron. Each has its own display for temp. It stays where I set it every time. That thing has been transported to jobs. slammed around in my trunk for months. I've been using it for years. Will update later.
Any update?
I love my at-sa-50 :) it's my favorite soldering iron so far (I don't have enough money for a station and I just solder as a hobby),
nice to see that they're vfm with other models too.
Louis, you need to expose your uncle dell laptop on the background again !
everytime i saw it was a reminder of the wise F-word lesson
Man you are a saviour, I was looking for a decent and affordable hot air station for a while and after seeing this review I'm most likely going with the Atten. Would you consider doing a long term review with the Atten as your main station since you already used the quick for quite a while and proved it's longevity. Thanks again.
Hi Louis, I don't do any board work but really enjoy watching you do them. Love you honestly with your opinions. Stay Safe my Friend.
Louis: Make a Video
Autofocus: I am gonna end this Video
I have finally heard another person who randomly hums christmas songs when it is not christmas
Those christmas trees in the office are really getting to you, Louis.
Thank you for these comparison videos.
19:35 - "Cool little feature!" Good one, Rossmann. Ha!
The intro... I fell out my chair laughing! And I don't think I'ma be OK after this...😵💫
HI Louis, I have seen some sellers selling this BST-863 - it is rated at 1200w and comes in a bit cheaper than the Atten and apparently has a reasonable build quality as well compared to these.
It might be worth you also checking that one out
Take it apart ! Show us a peek inside ! Would like to see how it's put together. Cheers.
You can see the inside on the Atten website but still gonna need louis's input. If he's calm must be alright but if he turns into a rabid dog you've been warned.
Hi Louis, Great review and straight to the point, Ive always steared away from Atten but that station looks pretty cool. One thing though I use the Quick 861DW, Ive had it for a couple of years now and always seemed to do the job but recently i noticed things were taking a little too long to remove from boards, so i read the destructables and found i could calibrate the quick. after testing the temp with a heat probe at 300 (low) it only gave out 267 degrees C and High 500 Degrees it gave out 468 degrees. so after calibration (in the manual :-) it now gives out the correct temps again.. is yours calibrated correctly?.... just a thought. keep up the great work and STAY SAFE
thanks for your support quick ,
REWRITTEN: FORMATTED CORRECTED TEXT
I found that I could calibrate the QUICK.
After testing the temp with a heat probe at 300 (low) it only produced
267 degrees C and High 500 Degrees it produced 468 Degrees.
So after calibration ( described in the manual ) it now produces the
correct temperature again.
Trivial I know, but Louis's new hairstyle is way better than how he had it. Looks good !
Did you try unplugging it then charging the customer $800? Usually works for Apple
8mm 10mm spiral air nozzles."
Would be interested if you can compare the straight 8mm and the spiraled 8mm and see if there is any difference.
Just got an St-862d and wanted to point out that straight out of the box it did not have lock engaged. Appears that it can be activated if you want it, but is off by default on mine at least.
Got my Atten today! No time to test before work but I can't wait! (And now it's available for $170)
Did you get around to testing it yet?
@@ng-iq4kx I did. I used it to remove a random chip from a dead board and I was impressed with how fast it came off.
Where did you find this for $170?
@@g3ntz1 It was actually much cheaper than that on AliExpress but the shipping got it to $170. I just looked and it looks like $180 is the cheapest total now
Louis wearing his mask while doing a video in supper of Jessa... RESPECT!
One of my favorite songs at Christmas.
lovely little business advice that can transfer over to everything in life, awesome!
I don't like to read the manual either, but I've been using this thing for 6 months and I just learned that a long-press will enable cold air. haha.
love from Tunisia , stay safe and healthy louis there are few people like you .
Just got the ATTEN model delivered and I already tested it with an SMD component. Thanks for your recommendation on the bent nozzle as well. It's pretty good for the price!
T least you have been paying ATTENtion to detail and can write ATTEN correctly -
Whereas the uneducated ZOMBIE people write Atten - which is incorrect,
All CORPORATE legal names are always in the ALL CAPS iteration
The ZOMBIES have eyes but they cannot see - ears and cannot hear
please open it up and compare it to the quick, thanks for the review !
Great advice on customer relations and business ethics!!!!!!
When I get enough I am definitely going to buy my atten from you Ross 👌🏾
dam Louis just gave the company that makes quick 861dw permanently corona.
Hahhaha
Reading your comment, I'm imagining someone scrubbing furiously at the top of a document labelled Bankruptcy with a black marker, before scribbling Covid-19 in it's place.
You can buy from a rainforest website 7, 9 or 13mm 45deg nozzles for the atten.
Had to borrow a HaKo from adjacent dept at uni. took an 1.5 hours to read and understand the manual to get it set up, at which point i needed to shut it all down to cool off before I went home.
Quick is a kick ass, I’ve been using it for a few years and very happy with it
Bent nozzles (7,9,13 mm) for the Atten ST-862D are already available
well done louis! you realy know how to present this :)
i appreciate the life lessons that you squeeze into these videos. you are a great dude
Glad I'm not the only one humming Christmas songs way out of season... 😹
Just ordered one through Louis' store! And, it comes shipped with bent nozzles.
How are you liking it so far?
I’m a apple tech and game console tech and ur videos are best
Hi Louis
Please test the Atten ST-862D temperature accuracy/stability compared to the Quick and see if the temperature can be calibrated (like the Quick can be).
Also if you feel like it, take the case off of both and compare.
Thanks Louis.
What about build quality and safety? If it means the station is way less likely to burn my house down (let's be real, they are both cheap), then I will gladly spend a bit more.
Ohh really, I loved it when you you showed that hot pike 9f shine 810. It shows a hat shit they are trying to pass off
You looked at Metcal yet? They use an RF heating curie point tip that is absolutely amazing. They also have the heated tweezers.
You should double check if your fume extractor is working. Humming Christmas songs in April should not be normal, even in times of Corona.
i made my own bent nozzles for my quick 861dw in my bench vise cause they where sold out of the ones already bent.
I don't think I will ever need anything quite like this for the odd jobs I do but it's tempting nonetheless - thanks for the review. They are on sale in the Netherlands via Atten with shipment to the UK for around 215 Euros - early Christmas present to myself maybe ;) :D
Louis at his best! Loving it! ❤😅✌️👍
