Vin Diesel was also in Saving Private Ryan and it was a good performance. He's also good in Pitch Black. Everything went downhill after he became a famous action star IMO.
This is absolutely the best podcast on the planet I can’t get enough. I’ve worked in the film industry for 25 years and listening to these two utter legends is just…chefs kiss 👌
Wanting to be a Faithful on Traitors might not be wanting to win though - being part of that programme is an experience, not necessarily money-motivated
As someone who has never watched a F&F film, it is amazing how many hours of discourse I have heard over the years, none of which is actually about the movies themselves (plot, characters, effects etc.) - it is a strange phenomenon
I think Marina has misunderstood the debate between wanting to be a traitor or a faithful. There are other things to consider beyond a position of strength, such as someone who knows they are not comfortable deceiving and lying so give up a degree of strength so as to not get caught immediately. Or someone who genuinely wants to play the game and puzzle it out. Boiling it down to traitors = clever and faithfuls = idiots is a terrible take on it.
plus it doesn't really matter as you don't get to choose anyway. It annoys me on the show when someone says 'I voted for you Kevin, because you've got all the traits of a traitor'....herr hellooo, whoever is a traitor did not have a say in it, so that argument is irrelevant.
Casual cruelty seems to be part of her life ethic, it's something that jars with normal people but Marina is able to breeeze through it without a second thought.
@@walkingandadventures6114 Life is a game; there's still a right and a wrong way to act; the game is a small, short-lived, perverse crucible of human society- but it is a human society. Sociopathy is fun to watch, but it's ultimately damaging to everyone around it.

Yep. This is quality gear. Loled right the way through that last section. Spicy/ argumentative, then quantum positive showbiz speak. 2025 is sucking already for so many reasons, we need a lift. You make a formidable pair. Salut!
The whole bit about Rock vs Diesel is so good, I had to comeback and listen to it for the second time. Richard's sarcasm is so on point, peppered amongst Marina's annoyance in her voice. I agree wholeheartedly with all the points :))
My sister was a big Take That and Robbie fan and her view was that this wasn't a movie that she needs to see right now in the cinema. She is happy to wait for it to be available to stream. Also there is an age/demographic factor here as well. I think that may be why it isn't taking a lot of cash right now. I doubt it will be another Shawshank Redemption but I suspect it will make a chunk of the money back once it hits streaming.
Absolutely love the podcasts! Please just for silliness indulge me by introducing yourselves by one another's name? 😂 Yes I know it's ridiculous... But fun! 😊
Absolutely hilariously funny episode this time round. The “biopic” discussion had me rolling around. I’m with Marina, most musical biopics are sanitised versions that bend the truth for the sake of a good song. Usually so fluffy they’re pointless.
Spot on - I quite enjoyed the recent round of musician biopics, but in no way do I regard them as factual/educational. Can make for a fun fact-checking research session afterwards though.
Disappointed to hear that The Franchise has been cancelled. It took a while for me to get into it but overall I really enjoyed it. I could suggest it wasn’t well marketed and I only knew about it from Marina talking about it. Look forward to hearing about you next project
That's an interesting comment - perhaps I should have perservered. I watched the first episode and it didn't grab me at all. Your comment about the marketing definitely feels relevant - I also only heard about via this podcast and absolutely nobody that I know talked about it either, which is often the way that shows come to my attention.
It's a shame but I'm not surprised, it was a show that was definitely much less than the sum of its parts, much like Iannucci's previous fling Avenue 5. In a better world it'd have been given one or two more seasons to find its feet and get really good (think Always Sunny or Parks & Rec), but that doesn't happen much anymore. Course it's not guaranteed to turn good, after all shows about making shows are always a bit less interesting than people making shows think they are and they tend to tread the same ground over and over.
@@Deedumdee Ideally I’d like to see Armando do something political as that’s where he has excelled. However, he’s not made something I haven’t enjoyed enough to keep watching, inc Av5
There's too much good stuff being made to have a first episode that bad. A sea of the same old shit, everyone's awful, the actors are self-obsessed, blah blah. Every character talks in the same voice, telling barely recycled 'jokes' from Extras and Twenty Twelve and a dozen other dull shows.
I say biopic to rhyme with myopic (just think it scans better) but I've heard it said both ways. Sometimes pronunciation does change in portmanteaus, e.g. romcom, sci-fi, emoticon.
So good to see presenters together in a studio, fully engaged with each other and not at home getting distracted by their phones while the other one talks (cough politics cough)
Yes, thank you. I find it bizarre that people split the word in the wrong place 'bi-opic' - it makes zero sense, biographical picture... Bio Pic... Bio-pic... Thank you for providing me a place to vent...
I really enjoy this show, Richard and Marina work well together but I wish Marina would take a breath some stage, there are spells when she talks at a million miles an hour without a breath and must say more than 500 words without Richard saying one. Just slow down a bit Marina please! I know you've a lot to get through but less is more sometimes.
The Robbie Williams as a monkey film makes me want more films where musicians are animals. MC Hammer as a penguin, Chico as a peacock, Nick Knowles as a duck billed platypus. Anyone got any more for the list ?
I’m so bored of hearing about traitors! Biopics have their place but they should nod to the creative, fictional elements and not present themselves as pseudo documentaries. Robbie’s movie seems to have done that. Rocketman is the best I’ve seen. Bohemian Rhapsody was awful IMHO (and I’m a huge Queen fan) although I enjoyed Malek’s performance.
Surely 'Going for Gold' the Shed 7 story. Love the vodcast. I have always said bi-opic as well. The annoyance in this comment section will ensure I continue to say it this way as well.
Just a quick fact check. Jason wasn't in F&F until F6. If you need any further in depth analysis on any of the fast and furious franchise you let me know! 🤣
Canada has been home for productions. Netflix is funding a really funny show about an Inuit woman called North of North in Nunavut in Canada. The Czech Republic is great for fantasy films. And Georgia (in the USA, not the country) has been giving good tax rebates to any show Steve Harvey is in.
I feel sorry for Marina, but I hope it wasn’t a ‘labour of love’ because I’m not surprised The Franchise hasn’t been renewed. It was miscast, painfully unfunny and much like Armando Iannucci’s Avenue 5, a real disappointment… especially when compared to his ‘greatest hits’ Alan Partridge, The Thick Of It and Veep!
The only things i have seen on line about robys films is american asking who he is and asking why its even on in the cinima as they wont go see films about some one they dont know.
There is a weird bit of double speak in the opener. The comparison of wider politics to a micro environment incentivised by a quick win cash prizes, compared with a macro country politics in which you are deciding if you value your own self interest, compared to wider country and individual health of people other than you…. It was surprising
Why do they say being recruited as a traitor right at the end is the strongest position? Is it based on the non-british versions (which I haven't seen, so i've no idea)?
To be fair…the Rock, Anthony Joshua and Kevin Hart were all on film for publicity and unless the Boxing Board of Control mismeasured AJ’s height, I think we can see the Rock is at least 6 ft 4 or 5 inches.
I think Marina is lacking understanding. Not everyone in the traitors wants to be a traitor. Some would like to be faithful and not lie and deceive and win. I don't think that is moronic. I think that is people who have certain values.
What a way to find out The Franchise isn't coming back!!! Not enough people watched it rings true because I tried talking about it at work and either no one was interested, heard of it, or found it their thing. I enjoyed it at least.
