That is in fact canon. 16 was programmed to be peaceful because Gero didn't want him to be killed in battle.

They have callbacks to so many jokes from the begging of the series later on and so many fourth wall breaks. IMO one of the best ones is when Vegeta says “9 MINUTES AND 18 SECONDS! THE HAPPIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE!” If you know you know... 🤣

I love that they've given Goku and Piccolo actual empathy. They're trying to take care of Yamcha and Gohan. It's very sweet, but they still make it funny and stylistically appropriate.

I would say given adequate time, supplies, and resources Bulma could do better, but the dystopian wasteland future that trunks is from says otherwise... I am confused on why they didn’t just capsule the androids though, feel like that woulda saved a lot of lives
Well, Bulma did completely reverse alien technology capable of rapid intergalactic travel and built not only a working prototype but also included a gravity altering machine that was built inside of that machine in like...2 weeks. If she was inclined to build Androids or alter humans into making them Cyborgs, I would have to hazard a guess that her first iterations would be stronger than Imperfect Cell

Been wondering how Future Trunks would feel knowing that while his androids brought about Armageddon, these androids turned out to be loving spouses and parents and 17 was a noble wildlife protector. Man Trunks' timeline drew the short straw.

If we use the definition "an apparatus consisting of interrelated parts with separate functions, used in the performance of some kind of work" we could say that they are indeed machines, but it would also include any other organism and I doubt you had this definition in mind. Any other definition refers to an mechanical apparatus. I also should have clarified my problem in your statment was more with you saying they are "metal machines"wich they aren't, just humans with cybernetic and bio-mechanical enhancements.

The energy absorbing thing was a good feature and if he wasn't a complete weakling without that extra energy then he wouldn't have died to easily.
I think in Kai (which is the official source since it's directly to the manga) they mention that he built 19 and he in turn followed Gero's orders to make him #20 A.K.A Gero

Yea but I get what you mean, that was a stupid twist to get them hurt and show how apathetic vegeta is at this stage. But thing is toriyama (and much of the generation of artists inspired by his gen.) doesn't think too hard about developing characterization beyond good character design and setup, doubly so with female characters. I think our grievances are actually the same thing from different angles: i dont see the problem with bulma checking out their enemies with trunks but I do think it's stupid how toriyama didn't care enough to at least maneuver this in a way that wouldn't make Bulma look thoughtless.
To be fair, they had dragon balls and trunks is half Saiyan, meaning he can probably take an explosion or two
