  • Usain Bolt is the greatest athlete of his generation, having won three Olympic gold medals back to back in the 100m and 200m track events. Shattering the world record in both, he is the worlds fastest man! No stranger to struggle and defeat, Usain shares his journey from growing up humbly in Trelawny, Jamaica, to dominating and conquering the world stage in athletics.
As my very good friend of over 10 years, he's open and candid, and shows sides to himself that most people don't usually get to see.

    There's a story behind everything...
(long caption warning but it's rested on my ❤)
I had shot half the season of #OdysseyWithYendi #UntoldJourneys Season 2 and had to pause....
The day I shot this sit down with Usain Bolt, was the first I was getting back to work after a serious health scare. What you see here is pure gratitude to have life and purpose.
I was diagnosed with a heart condition a year ago and it's changed a lot for me. Only last month, I faced something that complicated that condition and brought my own mortality to the fore.
It was a lot to digest.
I was unwell for weeks, but did everything in my power to enable my body to fight. I'm still experiencing quite a lot of discomfort related to the condition, and pains throughout my body (and yes shifting a lot in my seat to alleviate same) but pushing forward is what we do, the best way we can.
I have always had a passion for what I do, and the fragility of life has never been lost on me, but let me tell you that I am working with a ZEAL like never before!!! My fervour is palpable!
When I sat with Stacey Hines on #BeautyInTheAshes she said "Don't Die With Music Left In You".....
On the heels of losing 2 family members within the past week...
BE KIND TO YOURSELF. BE KIND TO OTHERS. TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. LIVE OUT LOUD. PURSUE YOUR PASSIONS. DO EVERYTHING THAT SETS YOUR SOUL ON FIRE. DON'T DIE WITH MUSIC LEFT IN YOU! PUT YOUR ALL INTO LIVING THE LIFE YOU WANT TO LIVE!! TELL PEOPLE YOU LOVE THEM. SHOW UP FOR YOURSELF. SHOW UP WHEN IT MATTERS MOST. DO EVERYTHING WITH LOVE!
    LEAD WITH LOVE!!
Sending each and every one of you copious amounts of love and positive energy, as we navigate a very strange time in history.
This space is for positive change and inspiration. And I pray each of you are inspired by #OdysseyWithYendi.

Great interview Yendi and Usain. On the topic of what Usain have done for brand Jamaica. I was recently in Rzeszow, Poland and while getting a Kebab I was asked where I was from. Naturally my response was JAMAICA and instantly two of the workers said "Bolt" with a smile. Nuff love and respect.

Enjoyed this interview. Usain always seems so real 👍🏼 I was encouraged by, 'You have to learn how to lose before you learn how to win' because when my first attempt at owning my own business failed after being so successful at my corporate job I felt very, very disappointed. I'm even more encouraged to keep pushing because there are so many lessons to learn. I also learned to do it gradually and part-time because Jamaica still needs my day job skills 👍🏼 Still have my tshirt with the gold medals put away only to be worn on special occasions 😁👍🏼

I agree with your point but you're confusing what the idiom means: "Dance a yard before you can dance abroad" means hone the necessities of your craft before trying to go public with it and that applies here too.
What you meant to say was "a man is never crowned king in his own country" which is also a Jamaican saying that was pulled from biblical scriptures.

(Jamaican living in the Netherlands): You two made my week with this uplifting and positive conversation. Usain I salute you, Sir! Maximum respect for maintaining your integrity and character; accolades and fame while great don't exceed the value of being a good father to your daughter, being true to yourself, and being loyal to those who have been with you from before flashing lights. The emphasis you put on these qualities is an example for us all. Yendi, you too are making us proud as Jamaicans living abroad with your authenticity and high levels of emotional intelligence. You are a breath of fresh air; keep it up. Also want to shout out to coach Mills: "You have to learn how to lose....." quote will be added to the memory bank for sure. This was excellent!
