    There are many reasons why I climb and agree in many points with you. Recently I moved far away from my friends and soon realized that they were a huge part of why I enjoyed going out climbing.

      That's a great point. The people around us make or break pretty much anything, I guess. And fortunately, I generally find climbers to be very open-minded and friendly. The atmosphere at a crag is usually great, because people only have to compete with themselves (something I don't take for granted as it's very different in other sports). It's probably a really important reason for me, too.

    really nice video, and definitely nailed ALL the reasons why I have been so obsessed for over 30 years. but now comes the down sides...lost income/pension funds due to having so much fun instead of working, lost drive for developing career due to having "gone climbing" across the globe, lost ability to work due to arthritic fingers and toes. except for the arthritis, since it slows being able to do powerful, crimpy or low angle climbing, there are no regrets. i never liked work anyway and I can still do easy steep juggy routes, hooray!

      Thank you. And also thanks for this perspective on things! I guess one has to be careful to maintain some kind of balance between climbing and „regular“ life in order to not burn out physically, mentally, financially or career wise. I for one don‘t plan to climb full time long term 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Great video Samuel!! Really amazing work!! I regularly ask myself the same question, especially with sore fingers / elbows / shoulders / whole body. For me, the moving meditation, problem-solving, flow states and the grading system to track continual improvement and growth are all things that keep me coming back.

    Hi, mich würde es interessieren, in wie weit sich deine Schwierigkeitsgrade positiv verändert haben, seit du Vollzeit kletterst. Ansonsten... Bleib dran

    I guess for me, its the one thing in life where things are perfect if you put enough time in. Everything else is never perfect and demands a lot of time - have a great career but not enjoying it/enjoying your work but not having enough money, or relationships - you have good communication, slow sex life, great understanding, too much stereotype. In climbing, its not like that. The send is always perfection. It always feels (to me) like Im close to god, divinity, you know... And Im not even religious. Its just sometthing about perfecetly executing all of those extremely specific movements, pushing your body beyond the point you literally programmed yourself to tthink is possible. Trough repetetive failiure on a project, you emboss into your mind that its impossible, yet, on that send go, you just do it. You reach the anchors - you scream, you laugh, you cry, but inside of you - there is silence. For that one moment - you have reached trough perfection. I have done many sports before, many activities, but never have I encountered such perfection as in climbing. Throw in the other stuff you mentioned and yea, hard to contest.

      Wow, that's such a nice perspective! The way you describe the fleeting moment of feeling perfection when sending a route really resonates with me.

    Real inspiration Samuel. Are some shots in your video from Displomilandia? Greetings from Datca, Turkey! Piotr and Dana

    The start of this video was great!! And that looked like a pretty big fall... Scary.. did you do it on purpose (for the video), or was it an unintended whipper?

    • @samuelbuchmann
      @samuelbuchmann  2 роки тому +2

      unintended first and then reproduced for the video ;) it's steep wall and there is nothing in the way so... not a problem.

      Thank you! Yes, I taught myself. I edit in Davinci and film with a combination of mirrorless, iPhone and drone… Maybe I‘ll make some behind the scenes one day 🙃
