- To anyone who hoped I would do one of these with a Monsters University character appearing in this show, prepare to get your hopes up, 'cause here's Chet Alexander, Johnny's sidekick-turned-secretary.
Fun fact: his voice actor, Bobby Moynihan, has recently starred in the new IF movie with Alan Kim (who voices Ben in this show).

I always thought Chet was just another lost cause. It's very rare to see a flunky turned good guy, especially a flunky who was redeemed all along. Way to go, Chet 👍

Honestly, Chet was without a doubt overlooked and underappreciated by Johnny, his boss and former friend from college, who showed no signs of his antagonism from Monsters University. The fact that he was a double spy for MERC and betrayed Johnny as well as using Randall as a plug during the climax battle shows he definitely has a heart and deserves a much larger role should there be a season 3.
Yeah. I just realized that he was the one who caused Randall to be electrocuted. He probably told MERC after Tylor said it would explode and Johnny not listening and shoving him aside and Randall antagonizing him, was at that point the final straw.
How you know that Chet was a villain

He might’ve been a jerk once in the past when Mike was in MU but decided not to be anymore since Johnny stole the laugh power from monsters inc
He redeemed himself before Party Central, I suppose.
Despite being a jerk in Monsters University, I actually felt really bad for him and him acting like dick was probably just an insecurity he was secretly hiding. He must have thought that Johnny was a true friend of his. Only to discover that as the years went by, he realised that he was just being used as a pawn and at the end of the day he was a lonely guy who just wanted attention.
But that's just me.

Very interesting they used to be part of the same fraternity boss in the underling and still in the real world. They’re still still in the fraternity. He’s the boss and he’s just the underling. Boy no respect or anything poor crab you might as well jump into a pot of boiling water in his miserable, lonely life.
He’s actually only playing the part of the underling in this sequel, not even joking, he’s an undercover agent that screws Johnny over at the end, that’s what the last clip is.

I kinda like how some characters in the Monsters Inc. franchise change over the years. Randall, for example, started out as a very descend kid, but became one of the biggest monsters (no pun intended) in this franchise, while Chest here started out as a school bully and became an anti-hero by the end.
I'd say Chet is practically the monster version of LeFou.

The only monster who was mistreating him is Duncan. He bullied Tylor since day 1.
In my pov, Tyler was a bit of a jerk. In season 1, didn’t do much when he was working with MIFT other than coming up the idea of a bigger canister as he was too focused on being a jokester. In season 2, he didn’t support Val’s choice of being a jokester.
@@tanyipan3554 Okay. True, but Duncan was always spiting and mistreating him from day one and never viewed him as a friend like he does with the other MIFTers. Always assuming he wants his job as supervisors despite the numerous times Tylor told him he has no interest.
@@tanyipan3554I do agree and everyone turning against him and Val not having his back served him right and was his karma for his selfishness and it’s about me attitude. I believe in karma. Even though him wanting to be a scarer was understandable and was being manipulated by Johnny. It’s good his experience at Fear-Co was a wake up dust for him and he learned the hard way of taking your friends for granted. I see Tylor and Duncan’s relationship like a sibling relationship.
But Duncan was shocked when he learned the whole story from Tylor that it was actually Randall who was the real saboteur

Clearly, the kind of character that admires others that are talented even if they are also jerks. Nevertheless, that doesnt mean he wont get tired of being overlooked or pushed around
I hope we see more Agent Chet in later seasons.

@ 1:41 If I was in Sully’s situation: I would also specify that they can only chose a member of their team that ISN’T in the middle of their run, this would have still been in the spirit of a friendly game but also meant that he couldn’t steal Tylor as he was in the middle of his run, which basically doomed Monster’s Inc to its 40th defeat and put the score at 40-0

It was nice to see professor knight, Johnny, Chet and Claire Wheeler appear in monsters at work I wish Jerry, Boo, Dean hardscrabble, Brock, Don, art, Scott, Terri and Terry, and Sherri appeared in the series too although the oozma kappa pillow appeared in sulley’s office at monsters inc in the episode lights camera chaos
I think Jerry slugsworth is now working for scream industries, while Dean Hardscrabble has already heard the news that Monsters inc has changing from Scare to Laugh power and decides to take no more credit for Monsters inc when she learned that Tylor has graduated to work here, but Professor Knight thinks she's joking. If terri and Terry did physically appear they would be among those scarers who are now jokesters and their assistant is Doona Soohoo(who is has been their friend since kindergarten even when they're in seperate teams in Monsters university's scare games) and there's also a running gag in the show where everytime either Terri or Terry and both tried to speak someone interrupts them. And as for Javier Rios who is also now a jokester still bullies Terri and Terry for time to time

Randy was desperate for friends and to be like by others that he tried to be better than everyone, no matter what.
Chet just wanted to be liked and appreciated by one person that he was willing to go through anything to be by their side
The difference is that Chet realized that it wasn't worth it to get someone's attention and changed for the better while Randy still wants to be better than everyone due to his insecurity and hasn't changed at all.

TOXIC FRIENDSHIP VENT & SMALL STORY
Although Johnny and Chet are both of my fav characters, i love Chet a bit more... just because i went through a very similar thing he went through and kind of still currently going through it...
Although in my opinion, even though Johnny didn't care about what would happened to that scream laughter mix thing, he really is a boss who does love and care about his employees and loves his family... even though i was saddened with Johnny and Chet's friendship and my fan self was hoping it would get better... ( not sure why his friendship was weird with Chet ) but i am also happy and glad that the creators of monsters at work and the creators of the storylines of both of them in both the movie and the series shows this type of "friendship" ...
it could definitely help anyone see and learn signs of toxic friendships so they could try to prevent it from escalating and getting worse... especially until you get older, like what happened to Chet. If only this show came out right after MU, it would've definitely helped me from being involved with so many toxic friends and would've helped me not be too reliant on them back then... and currently with this one person... i know she don't want me in her life but it's so hard to let go... been "friends" with her on and off over the years for about 8 years... again, shout out to the creators of the storylines for Johnny and Chet's toxic friendship . Yall are probably helping anyone who are going through this type of "friendship" and helping them see signs, learn the traits etc

Probably because he was neglected by his superior.
Most likely he joined after college and due his relations with Johnny on MU they asked him to go undercover in case there's something fishy.

Looks like, I was wrong about Chet while, I hated him in University almost completely except the charity donation collection, I think seeing Chet grown wiser and mature is a thing that’s made my heart and mind of light shine brighter a little even further much more so proud 🥹 of Chet that he’s become a great wellbeing police agent and looking out for his city monster humanoid population when he wants to keep them safe from danger or harm especially when, I like it when he agree with Tylor about the really grave bad idea at mixing laughter and screaming energy together since it can cause a really deadly explosion which won’t be pretty or great at all yeah Chet really right a really big flame 🔥 explosion might kill thousands if not over a million of innocent monster humanoids in the great Monstropolis yeah, I did agree with him and Tylor there man, Johnny really is taking things to far and way out of the line than he ever could in the university movie man, I thought he changed and becoming a little bit more kinder since, I saw him bonding with Tylor and seeing him being with Claire and there children JJ and Lorelei as a true father of the family should do, I thought he was better then Randall at that point from now on but near the end when, I discovered he’s gone back to working with Randall even through he kicked him out of his Roar Omega group over a decade ago can’t believe it at that point that’s when, I truly discovered, I was 100% total wrong Johnny is completely like Randall and Mr Waternoose but thanks to Chet, Tylor and Val, Johnny has got what he deserves for almost attempting murdering close to million of innocent monster humanoids including his poor wife and tragic children can’t believe he would do such a rotten thing even too his own family what a shame indeed but let’s hope that in case if we see Claire, JJ and Lorelei again in season 3 let’s hope that Tylor and his friends will help comfort them after they saw what Johnny truly is to them a disappointment and villain to them and not the right person to be a true husband and father to them at all 100% indeed but still at least Chet is still improved indeed he’s definitely a true hero now that will makes us smile and cheer for him forever indeed oorah.
