    Amazing history! So many babies and children’s graves. So sad. Makes you wonder what great things they could have accomplished had they lived.
    I hope Mr Hogg gets the cemetery cleaned up and the family can return annually as caretakers.

    Another sad story of the death of a baby and a young woman. The epitaph I believe is: "Dearest Mother thou has left us here thy loss we deeply feel but tis God that hath bereft us He can all our sorrows heal." Wow, a lot of history. That church is wonderful to see, and under you go for the build details. 😃Every video seems to weave more of the tapestry of history - it is all woven together in an amazing way to arrive at today throughout many of the counties in Georgia. I know more about Georgia than I do my own backyard. Great one, Robert. ❣👍❣👍 See Robert's Adventures Into History pinned comments about donations to the cemetery restoration project he is working on.

      Sadly that's just how it was back in those days (and still in some parts of the world) the child mortality rate and the dangers women had in having children was INSANE (living in general for everyone was much harder- simple fixes now would easily end lives back then) 😕
      The epitaph was beautiful and sad but really common i've seen it and other forms of it (not taking away from its impact just saying).

    • @cindys.9688
      @cindys.9688 7 днів тому +2

      Thanks for writing out the epitaph - it's a beautiful piece of literature. I love that epitaphs from back then mention God, Jesus, the Resurrection, Heaven, and Scripture. Their Christian faith was so foundational.
      I'm the same - I also know more about Western Georgia than I do my own backyard, too!😂

    These are fascinating cemeteries and the church. I think the grave houses are precursors of more modern mini mausoleums. The cemetery that I buried my husband in this summer has a few of the little marble mausoleums. My husband will have an upright stone with a traditional verse. I am so happy that you and your fellow historians honor so many wonderful souls.

    There's some long leaf pines growing in an abandoned field next to my house. They range from about 8 to around 10 foot tall and growing faster than normal. They're a little too close for comfort being only around 20 feet from my house. The owner don't mind me cutting down stuff but I don't cut down the long leaf pines since they're trying to make a comeback here in Georgia. But living in Dixie Alley makes us subject to tornadoes and hurricanes like Helene that just came through. Thankfully it was only around a category one in my area and so I had limited damage, but tall pines and old oaks can be deadly in high winds.

    This was awesome! You have me so well-trained that I feel pretty cheated if another explorer shows an abandoned church and takes no time for the related cemetery. I realize they don't have the family ties that many of the people you interview do, but it would still add so much to the experience. Good job as always!

    Pretty cool graveyard with all the different graves. It's always so sad seeing the children's one's. I remember the church from an earlier video and being amazed at the size that tree would have had to be for that support. Also thinking about how they reused it all for the new church. Is a pity it couldn't just stand that way forever.

    The church...💗💗💗 It's just precious. It'd be nice to see it cleaned up and gently restored, keeping it looking "old" but not like "ruins". It'd be quite a project, I'll say that. I'm glad it's still standing. It's in a serene, wooded area which adds to its undeniable charm.
    I know you hear this all the time, but ✨THANK YOU!✨ for your commitment to restore and document every lovely cemetery and graveyard you visit! The people who lived back then would probably be saddened to see the current condition of their beloved burial places. Then along comes you🦸🏼‍♂️ to save the day! Seriously, these burial sites don't need to be forgotten. You're their superhero. No doubt.⚔️
