Do the SCENES replace the " SAVE AS" 100% ????? Will the SCENE remember every plugin, every setting, everything ??? I am a bit scared and would hesitate unless someone could confirm by experience.
My biggest Beef with S1 Pro lately has been that it is slow in loading songs that are a little busy - what I mean is that I put Plugin-Alliance SSL Console E (or G or J) on EVERY track as to simulate a full SSL desk.... but when there are 30 or 40 tracks it get''s slow loading the songs. In some cases it crashes, especially with LINDELL console and bus plugins from Plugin-Aliiance. But that is with S1 Pro V4... SO the big question is if S1 Pro V5 is more stable, more efficient and handles plugins better ???? WHAT is your experience with it David ????

Thanks for the video. I see a few features that I like. Looks like cymbal chokes on an e-kit can now be recorded and played back in Studio One as well, although I cannot confirm this until I upgrade to version 5.

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Cymbal chokes can not be recorded and played back in version 4.x when using an e-kit. I had to use Cubase for that. That one addition in version 5 is worth the upgrade price to me. Thanks again for your videos.

Home Recording Made Easy Cool. I’ve been banging on about this functionality for a while (yes I’ve submitted a feature request 😎) I hope Presonus don’t miss this trick. It would be great for mix engineers like myself that to perform a mix on the fly and have all movements recorded. Keep up the good work! All the way from sunny UK 🇬🇧
I had a problem with Universal Control working with my 16.0.2 legacy USB mixer/interface and they helped me work it out and make it work. Their support is second to none.

Hi David, I've been watching your vids the last few days for the first time, plugin reviews mostly and wanted to say thank you so much, I picked up a bunch of the overloud comps and they are awesome.. so once again, thank you for the reviews and comparisons! But I wanted to ask you a quick question.... I got a free copy of studio one 4.5 artist a couple of years ago that I got from sweetwater when i purchased a bunch of gear.. i never even installed it because I use Ableton wich I hate it for mixing. I see a lot of horrible reviews for studio one 5 and figured I'll ask you if this would be a good purchase. Because I have that old version of studio one as I mentioned, right now I can get a pretty good discount for the studio one 5 professional upgrade, would this be a good mixing DAW choice? should I just keep mixing with ableton? I would really appreciate your guidance. Thank you!
S1 5 is just fine but if you have 4.5 and just starting out with it there is no reason to spend money and upgrade. stick with what you have and earn how to use it for mixing. I have a ton of training for that. just visit the website site
Wow.. The solution for problem after cut & chop editing & accidentally deleted or removed is very good. It reminds me to sonar/cakewalk where you only need to highlight the part & increase or decrease the level of particular wave part. Cut method always make me feel messy.

Hey David. Been a while since I posted. You mentioned a video you did where your Ableton DAW could control light cues. Can you provide a link to that in the description? One thing with mix scenes is that it does not save the 2 buss plugins if you had changed anything there. otherwise it is a great way to work instaed of saving different mixes.....only issue would be if you project gets a bug and you cannot figure out, the old way would be easy to open .
One thing to note , there are complications using clip gain and melodyne on the same clip

I dont know of any performance improvements myself.
I have read quite alot about S1 users experiencing worse performance in V5 then in V4, both on PC and Apple platforms. And it seems that cpu core distribution in V5 is still not satisfying for the lot.
I have a problem where all of the sudden I don't have stereo sound anymore.
Can I ask when you hover your mouse over the mains stereo icon (the 2 circles), does is say 'mono' or 'stereo'? Mine says mono 😳Thanks
so, click on that circle. does it turn stereo? My guess is your ouputs are not set up correctly.
Will the version 5 software save the automation in the saved scenes (especially dynamic automation on different channels) that can be recalled later? Thanks a great video.

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy OK Thanks. I had just bought the StudioiLive 32S mixer last week and getting ready to set the mixer up. It does as you know come with the Studio One Artist. I think what I will do before I upgrade to the Pro version is learn the Artist version first and then see if I want to upgrade.
If by any chance you have any videos on setting up the StudioLive mixer please let me know. Your videos are very well done and it is a little overwhelming at first when you get new gear or software. In this case i have both learning curves to deal with at once. Thanks.

Great video, very good commentarys and flow. I do have one question, i have studio one 4.6.2, if i upgrade to version 5 will it go on top of my old version or is it separated from it ?

Once you upgrade you can choose to keep version 4.6 or replace it at least on Mac. If I were you once you upgrade there will be no reason to go back to 4. You can still pull your songs up on 5... Also remember 5 is 64 bit only no 32 bit plug ins so.. check that Peaceee Stay Up

Great video. In lieu of saving to a new folder, you can also "Save As" and add something like "V5" to the song file name, keeping everything in the same folder.
I dont beleive when you do "save as" it actually makes a copy of the media folder, only the session file. You may want to check that
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy , I agree, I think save "Save as" only changes the session. If there are presets or media that are not compatible between versions it could mess you up.
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy That may be true, but I created "V5" versions of the existing songs in the latest project using "Save As" and have had no problems with presets, media, or anything working in the song. Can't say with certainty it provides the same benefit as "Save to New folder", but so far I'm not seeing a reason to duplicate the Media, Bounce, History, etc. folders.
Love Studio One! IMHO it's the best all round DAW out there.

Thanks David, I like three of the five. One of the key issues as you will find soon with mixing with hardware. Is all of the steps it takes to use hardware while mixing especially when and if you use a Patchbay. Routing can be a nightmare. Hoping this will be addressed soon in the Future. Pipeline needs some work. Many of us love our hardware and understand it brings that analog sound back in. What are your thoughts. Thanks Donnie

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Thanks David, After talking to some of our studio one Friends and Having the Flock audio patchbay. I have found it is more to do with Universal control and the use of pipeline. (Routing) After Talking to Studio One. They are aware and have not focused on that as of yet (Not enough requests) But they are focused on what the customers bring to their attention and would like. They just need more input from many of us that are mixing with hardware.

@@donniehill5688 The latency through Pipeline is unacceptable. If Studio One could fix that, the cpu usage across multiple cores, and automation/editing of the project page it would be near perfect.
I just bought v4.6 last month because it was on a spectacular sale (now I know why).
All I'm really needing at this time is a DAW that will work with a digital mixer and other devices for recording and playback. Haven't even got the training wheels off this purchase yet! ;) ;)

Just a heads up, I did the same thing and presonus gave me a free! upgrade to V5. I think if you bought 4.6 after the 12th of July you will be entitled to this also. I'd check your emails if I were you, I was completely unaware until I came across a email I hadn't read. Best of luck

12:02 Voxengo plugins has this on every plugins too. I actually would love to incorporate Voxengo with Waves and see how the 2 will play out especially the EQ and Comp comparing apples to apples.

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Voxengo Span is a great spectrum analysis took. Highly recommend that you have it in your arsenal. Most of their plugins are free.
if you had to go back into older version w same raw files, couldn't you reload those files into say, v 3.1? you may have to redo that mix but with some tools that dont migrate to new versions, isnt this way possible for keeping old versions?

Scenes: why not just save different versions as different projects? E.g. Song_230720_ClientVersion_1? I must have missed something here.
if you have 5 different mixes why save the session 5 different times. Harder to manage files. Things get moved on the HD and audio files get's mis-placed etc.....scenes are FAR easier to deal with in my opinion

I wish I would had waited for bugs to be addressed first. Midi quantize is off and sometimes the zoom button dissapears.
I have not had that issue as of yet
You need to use musical function|freeze quantize and then event|quantize. A simple macro with the 2 commands will sort out any quantize problems you might have.
You forgot to mention the score editor in V5. That was the only reason why I upgraded. Notion is ok but its no Sibelius so I didn't do Sphere.
I dont use either thats why it was not mentioned in the video.

Actually Luna was released for live production before Studio One. Ableton live was not really first either. Protools had a console called D-Show that was/is perfectly integrated to protools for live performance. So at least 3 DAW's were Live Ready prior to Studio One. That was the biggest deal with Protools was fully integrated production from Protools - albeit from a control surface / console.

As of the moment, I am on demo mode with studio one live. I am going to say that it can't replace ableton for live performance as of the moment. When you set item as song in show page, you can't make any patch changes in between song if you use studio one as a keyboard rig like mainstage. It would be cool if you can set a block for patch change in between song. And also be able to jump unsequentially. For example, in a song, after the chorus, you want to jump to the bridge of the song. You can't do that as of the moment. This possible if you set the item as per part of the song. But as you can see, in the setlist, you can't group items and name it with the title of the song. That means it will populate your setlist with song parts. You gotta do a whole lot of directory making so that you will not that item is for this or that song. Hopefully they add also in the show page a function where we can add cues and be able to jump on different cues. By the way I'm a church musician that's why I think this way. Because in church worship, sometimes song leader would go spontaneous, and will just give as a hand sign to go back to chorus or go back to bridge or repeat intro. So if that function is present in this current upgrade, it's really a big help for us. We'll just assign buttons to go back or proceed to any part of the song. Or even jump to the next song directly to its bridge. Because sometimes it happens when the praise and worship consume much time.
But yeah it's a huge upgrade. Kodus to studio one. For sure they will listen to some of the suggestion since they are making community now through Sphere.
Great info. You should send this to Presonus directly as well. I cant replace Ableton either because currently the "show" page cant control lighting via MIDI.
Regarding recording live. If you are using a studiolive mixer, you simply use capture.
You can do that and/or use Studio One itself. Either will work

Excellent looking updates, save for the plug in and send menu being vertical instead of to the side. Not my preference for workflow. They should
have allowed for BOTH options thru a simple custom gui switch for the choice. Presonus support is ok at best, but they're snarky and short. As if, (sniff), you should know this, or (sniff), 'did you read all the billion Q & A sections'? If I lost more time digging thru that ocean, its worth just living with the issue or working around it.
Ok. Tell me which DAW company has better support or has a larger amount of community facebook groups and user forums to help. Have you tired using the Presonus user forum?
Guys, one question, does Studio One 5 have a kind of backup like Ableton when it crashes? I loved Ableton cause if it crashed, you could still go back to the project saved one instant before the crash.
There is auto backup that you can set to every 1 minute if that helps
The Mix Scenes saves only current mixer state. It does not save automation therefore it's not really suited for saving different mix versions. It's just mixer snapshots. As for manual deessing - there's much more faster way to do it than what you're showing in the video. I made 3 macros and assigned them to keyboard shortcuts: split audio clip at selection, reduce gain -1, -3 and -9dB, create crossfade. I've been using this for deessing for over 2 years and it's super fast, way faster than your method ;)

It’s worth mentioning S1-5 is a free upgrade if you purchased a previous version within 90 days from 7/7. I did and was super glad. So many new features worth the upgrade. Still debating trying out sphere just for the unlimited plugins alone

(25 mins) Yo mention all the fab features and yea they are too, what about Presonus actually dealing with the bugs in 4.6/ and the integration with my studiolive 32 S, I’m down to around 6 complete crash outs per day, including the desk when the DAW crashes on , say ( Command B) a simple bounce. I have to re start the desk as it freezes...and that’s only 1 simple issue. There’s tons. Fix these existing problems I’d say..I’m still trying to learn the desk since March...and I can assure anyone out there, it’s is not so user friendly as these videos show....It’s awesome in all its glory...but some things need ironed out especially in Daw mode...just being very honest here folks.
Let me ask you.....have you put in a support ticket with Presonus? Have you been to the Presonus user forum to see if someone there has had the same issues that you do? If you have not then you should. Someone will absolutely help you.

Mix scenes is the only feature of interest for me. As good as it is, not worth the upgrade price alone. Will pass on v5

At 21 mins...u mention Sphere...and that you also get the v 5 software...very nice, Personally speaking, I f I don’t wish to KEEP subscribing to Sphere...who owns the software? And the plug ins? Do we go back to our old software 4.6 and the old plugins, even after say 8 months of payments...???? not very good in my opinion, as mentioned in other comments on this topic, folks don’t really wanna dove in to Notation/ Orchestration/ etc, but may only want certain items of an update, there should be OPTIONS available. ABCDE etc etc. which can be purchased. even the Online Collaboration, and the cloud where files get sent to the cloud...? I’d never use this, personally...I’ve kinda bought into this Presonus Eco System and have spent £4g since March 2020...I’m not so sure now I wanna stay due to the way it’s going...there’s no options.
I think if you stop paying for Presonus sphere then you go back to the last version you own ie. v4.6. It looks like Presonus is offering this subscription as an option. You dont have to use it. You can just buy and download the software. No subscription etc.
Re sizing GUI's is what I want! Kontakt are terrible for this. especially when we're all using 4k or 21:9 monitors...WHY? Your demographic are not all 21 year olds!
