I agree with your opening statement. It is tough finding the right microphone. However, I will never be able to test them out without having a lot of money.
It would have been nice to have you demonstrate same short riff on all mics....it was like going to home depot and asking if a product would work....the employee would then pickup the product and read the back when I could have done that myself. Other than that...I do appreciate all lessons. So thank you for that. Just my two cents!!!!
He obviously knows his stuff ! I mainly use the SM-57 and the Shure 520D .. Green Bullet. I find that those two mics do a fair job for Blues and Southern Rock.

A few pointers to help you along the way: - Learn scales (the blues scale for example) - Learn what positions are (1st, 2nd & 3rd) and learn a scale in each to explore it - Start practicing songs you like! Pick songs you feel you can play given enough practice
Do you know Stan Ridgway solo albums or with his former band Wall of Voodoo? he have great songs with harmonica, and is not the usual blues or folk type of playing. E.g: Don't box me in Animal Day (Wall of voodoo) The Big heat
