You have to be do something more than just repeating. The syllable “ah” because if you only repeat the syllable, regardless how fast, the pitch doesn’t bend at all. Its tremolo. What I’ve done naturally is hold that syllable, that “ah” and use the throat muscle to pull down the tongue or the floor of the mouth. This is what you do when singing. So my guess would be along with repeating the syllable “ah” you are also pulling downward on the tongue (basically what you do to get bends) every so slightly to get a fluctuation in pitch.
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! OH man! I WAS PULLYING MY HAIR OUT WATCHING OTHER GUYS SHOW THIS! you are such a good teacher, I got it after like 5 minutes using your technique. Now I just got to practice it and clean it up
It's very interesting to see these descriptions after I figured it out myself. I went through all the exact same thought processes and use the exact same noises
A tip I learnt that may help learn. is to set your mouth up in a pre bend shape with your tongue, so first bend the note then make sure the note is returned to its normal pitch, but keep your tounge so close to nearly bending. i.es keep your tongue static (or held) in 'almost' the bend position (like very very close to bending but not), So lock your tongue in that position. then when you do the throat vibrato, that inhale it pulls the air over the tongue (thats in the nearly note bending position) and the chugging (a kind of reverse coughing) air you are inhaling is easier to distort by flowing over tongue in that locked near bend position, That distorted pulsating air will then bend the reed. Like it just needed a little nudge So remember not to pulsate the tongue, and not using the tongue to complete the bend either, instead you are using the pulsating air flow to complete lots of little bends. Basically relying on the throat 'air pressure changes' to be just enough to pull the note up and down, so the tongue isn't doing the work, but more is holding a 'set position' for that pulsating air intake to distort a pocket of air in the mouth, and the pressure changing is whats causing the reed to go into vibrato. Sorry I reappeared myself then, but under the circumstances that dons't matter, repetition when learning is good lol
Best description I've heard tbh. That's exactly how I think of it when I do it, I'm still not perfect w it everything but man what u said nailed it on the head. Ty
Jonah, your explanations and demonstrations are so clear. I'm having trouble with vibrato, or maybe I should say I'm at early stages of developing the technique. Thanks
I get it!! NO other teacher articulated a method that I was able to use!! It was like just throw in some vibrato. But like HOW?? Jonah thank you so much!!
Thanks for your help Jonah. I can do sort of a vibrato with my tongue. Is that very bad? It sounds fairly decent. The throat one is really tough for me, but of course I’ll never give up.
Tongue vibrato is a legit technique. It's just a matter of taste. Tongue vibrato and throat vibrato have different timbres I guess, and each has their charm. Use what you think suits the music best
Hi Jonah, thanks for all the great lessons. I have a question: I do my 'vibrato' by just doing a very quick and small bend, so moving the tongue. Why is that not the right way?
Hi, AS always. Thanks for your vids. I play acoustically and have always used an SM58, but you're recommending the Sennheiser E835 , just curious what you feel is the difference and why Thanks
I’m a tongue block player. I wouldn’t say any of the notes are especially difficult once you can make that sound that I went over in this video on an inhale.
@@HarmonicaRevolution ...I've played for years, almost totally tongue block. How on earth do you double & triple tongue while tongue blocking?? As on 4 & 6 draw?

Thank you very much!!!
You are, definitely the bomb. Thanks so much.
Thank youuu❤❤
Very good clear explanation of vibrato! 💯🎶
Thanks teacher
Great lesson!
When you draw in do you flex the throat to get pitch change or the tongue? Thanks?
Very good Jonah Fox
very much appreciated my dude!
Jonah out here bringing that 🔥content every week!

Thank you Jonah I appreciate your videos
Good lesson
OH SHIT! Dude that worked! Ba-a-a-a-a. Thank you sir!!
Nice Lession, thanks.

Success! Thanks for the tip, I have been trying with my tongue and it just wasn't working...

If you are getting a sound you like, that’s fine. Not how I do it, but if it’s working for you, go for it.
@@HarmonicaRevolution He! Thanks for the reply Really enjoying your lessons.

Daily better and better ... makes fun ... in a way a "Kehlkopf-Vibrato" (in German Language) :-)
You lip blockers are all alike!!! Tongue block 6 draw with vibrato is pretty tough.

Helpful video as always. Thank you. Also I want 342 percent better lol! Bahhh bahhh black sheep 😂
Just channel your inner sheep and you got this!
It doesn't work like all the other videos. maybe i have throat cancer and don't know it. this makes me cough.
Lmaooo
this is tremolo man, pitch is not changing
I don’t thing so, tremolo is made with the mouth, with the throat it’s a vibrato , the pitch is slightly changing….
It's not good. Absolutely not. 😢😢😢

You're wrong, hand vibrato is changing the timbre of the note not the volume.
