My 1978 9th grade Biology and fishing club teacher played this as a science class lesson. It was TU's mission to educate on catch and release and it worked for me as I also took up flyfishing and tying that same year. What a splendid production and videography!
This film and other of these old beautifully directed trout and flyfishing films is what made flyfishing magic to me. And i know to so many others. Being 55 already, so you know i was still "young" around my 30's when i picked up a flyrod again. But this time i was so dedicated to learn to cast, tying flies in the evenings with these films on VHS video tapes playing at the background. Fishing every water possible in Holland while others joked about me out load. "Did you catch a salmon yet, whaha" . Was the usualcomment.(we have little to hardly no trout at all here for over 120 years) I didnt care, Especially when i got better in this more than a hobby thing. Like in a cold winter, Going to a side stream coming out of the river Rijn (Rhine in english) one of my favorite spots. While being surrounded by a conventional fish club having a match day. Again hearing them laughing at my weird Fly fishing abracadabra for them. Mocking me. Until i began landing the biggest Chubs, Carp, Asp, while all they caught were merely small fry. Lol. At that point i decided to fish in my ancestors land: Norway. And all the long evenings after work practicing casting behind a Flat ,on grass payed off ! Magic is still the feeling and experience i have when i fool a fish with my own tyes. More so in countries where there is still a natural trout and salmon population. All due this sort of films , and my obsession about trout, Greyling, and Salmon on the fly. Thanks for uploading this 👍🏻
These videos were such classics and John Fabian did a fantastic job on them. Generations learned from those VHS tapes and we have digitized those films from the original masters so new generations can enjoy them.
@@ScientificAnglers We had a very large TV at our fly shop, Kiene's Fly Shop, in Sacramento, California. We had one of the videos running all the time and everyone really enjoyed them. Thanks for your contributions to the sport of fly fishing.
So good. Would be awesome if fishing videos were still made like this. They've been getting loud , obnoxious, and skin-crawlingly trendy as of late. This was very enjoyable
Looks like a great combination of an aquarium and the Catskills, maybe Pennsylvania, somewhere east a long time ago. That’s my guess. I’m no expert but I’m old now.

Good to use barbless hooks...my neighbor showed me how to crush the barb on regular hooks.
Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate your putting up the majority of the old Mastery series videos, so much nostalgia value here for the Gen X angler.
So much fun bringing these back!
Reminiscent of my late dad, and his time of youth. Thanks a lot! 👍👍🙂🎣
Simply spectacular. He who can understand is capable of loving.
Thank you.
A timeless piece of film. His fall, we’ve seen and done many times 🥺😀🙈
We've have all done the mid stream dance at one point!
A man and his fish. Lovely video.
Vidi questo video per la prima volta 25 anni fa e con gioia l'ho ritrovato emozionante e nostalgico ....grazie
È ancora pieno di ottime informazioni fino ad oggi

Fantastic Video! Thankyou for posting. My mental wellbeing has just gone up 100%
You're welcome!
John Fabian filmed most of the SA/3M movies on 16mm film.
They were transferred to VHS cassettes and retailed in the fly shops.

Beautiful stream...what river is that?

Its hard to say, we have done some research and not been able to determine location for this film.

Really like the movie but taking a huge film ctew and full orchestra fly fishing is a bit much probably scared the trout 😮😂😊😅
Next time we will try to only bring along a 4 piece quartet.
Thanks!
