A tip to add to it. When skinning, stop skinning with the knife a bit before the bones start. Then hold the flesh with one hand and skin in the other and pull them apart. The bones come away with the skin and there is no need to cut the bones out
Good video mate. I liked It. When I fillet them I cut straight down on the fillet between the first and second fins behind the head. (Leave the one fin on). By doing this, there is a little air pocket under the fin you can slip your thumb into at the top of the fillet, and just peel the skin straight off the fillet. No need for knife.. Give it a go.. I find it a bit easier. Cheers buddy
Bloody good video mate. straight into it, no messing around. I love Flathead but I've always found them to be a bastard to fillet...properly. The way you do it is awesome. Thanks for sharing
thanks for the skinning tip, been trying to find a good way to skin them. im only just starting to fillet, my main problem is getting all the tiny bones out, but thats mainly from bream, thanks for all the tips, i will hopefully get better with practice.
Great video. Did it on christmas day and fried up the fillets with a bit of flour, salt and pepper and small amount of oil. Everyone commented on the fish.
over the weekend i was shown by far the best method to fillet a flathead...quick simple and more meat!! if i get around to it i'll show you guys... i'll have to catch me some flatties now...lol
I caught a couple of this and filleted both and I found that the meat has lots of little black vein looking thing and it doesn't look like the one you filleted. Is this normal? or have you caught like this before? THanks
the other way to fillet is after u have made the cut down to the tail just start skinning about 20 mm then grab the flesh and slowly pull away from skin if done properly the bones will be left on the carcus. This method takes a lot of practice and u will lose meat but is quicker if u have a lot to clean.
After you've put the slit near the tail use a cloth and peel the fillet away from the skin it'll leave those bones connected to the skin giving you a clean fillet without any bones

Filleting wastes so much flesh. Only ever do cutlets on a large flathead. Also, you can't cook a fillet evenly, because there is a thick end and a thin end.
A tip to add to it. When skinning, stop skinning with the knife a bit before the bones start. Then hold the flesh with one hand and skin in the other and pull them apart. The bones come away with the skin and there is no need to cut the bones out
the most simple instructions ever. nice work made it easy for me.
what if its 3 metres?
A 3 metre dog?
Have a blokes on blokes cookup
3 meters??? a shark??? swim right in to his mouth.
Do the same thing
Take your chainsaw, gentle run it along the bones, taking care not to step on the fish as you walk inside.

I caught a couple of this and filleted both and I found that the meat has lots of little black vein looking thing and it doesn't look like the one you filleted. Is this normal? or have you caught like this before? THanks
personally I like a boned fillet with skin on for flatties, your missing a lot of flavour removing it.
I really wanna go fishing now
use tweezers to pluck rib bones?
Thanks that makes for a more enjoyable feed for sure
Cheers mate, catch flatties all the time. About time I fillet them.
always dreaded filleting flattys, you made it look easy. thanks mate. will try your way next time.
A Shep knife is easier and bone skin side up.(30yr fishing industry filleter)

Good video! Thanks mate, think I did a pretty good job for my first attempt.
What's the simplest (quickest) way to kill the catch and store it so you can take it home to fillet? Thanks
Great video mate, very helpful 👍
Were did u catch them
When you catch a flathead do you bleed it straightaway
It this after you gut it or you don’t gut it at all
Do you gut it and de scale first?
The scales are on the skin still no gutting needed as its the tail
Really good instructions filleted it great first time!
Thanks for these helpful instructions.
Good video. Nice job!
Awesome video.Man I needed a lil refresher . Been awhile since I done it lol
Thanks so much mate... really good
sure is!
Flathead cooked with skin on, is the best way to cook flathead. I dont know why people cook it without.
Great video, very helpful👍🏻

Thanks mate. Hoping to be filleting flathead tomorrow. :-).
Bravo, yes very educational. Thank you.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Anybody know a good place to catch flatty around the northern beaches? Narrabeen lakes just don't seem to have much anymore thanks
+Free Kai Broken Bay, Cowan Waters, Pittwater.
+Free Kai also Roseville Bridge and Middle Harbour.
+Lawrence O'Brien thanks
lake Macquarie has a few, lol. average around the 65 cm my best so far 72 cm, and ive only been here for a bit.
Great video mate
Here for the 3 metreys
yeah sure does!
Thanks heaps. I wish the camera was close up while you were doing the debonig. Other than that spot on.
Mint video mate
You should leave that fin on the skin, you make a pocket with your thumb and pull the skin off using the fin as a lever, works everytime. Cheers.
Are the bones just rib bones? can you just pull them out 1 by 1, there is only a few?
+Jack Offer thats what i did, got most of them. im far from a pro though haha and was winging it
Great vid!
If you start the fillet just enough to grip it you can pull the flesh from the skin and most times leave the bones on the skin.
Nice vid, makes me wanna go catch one now
Good stuff..well done
Perfect! A must see for all fisho's new to filleting.
I was thinking you were going to do a flathead catfish...good video though thanks

awesome mate..much better than my way!
Why why have you got a blunt fishing knife.
It was educational. Abd a good video, Thanks. A sharp knife would have made you look like a MasterChef!
So you cut the fish, but what happened to the bones? Magic?
He cut the bones out that what you do when you fillet fish. Did you not watch and listen to what he just said
Thanks dude!
They taste a lot better when you gut them and remove there gills soon after landing it
Thanks my guy
Hi
Subbed
Just saying mate, you will get more meat off the fish if you cook it whole
if you want to stuff around with tweezers while having a bit of grub? you might? complete waste of time.
Should of watched this on friday.... Well now I know
Alternatively you can pull the bones out with pliers. No waste then.
Sharp knife goes a long way
thanks
Thanks for that.

Show how to do the bones better.

My Own Will NEVER god's Will Arent the spines venomous?
@@rinolarry8981 those spines are along the back and sides of the head.
Your helpful
After you run knife 1st time down to tail, Cut back up, then STOP, Grab flesh and PULL down, it will pull the bones out with it !
Tried , not easy
HI DUDE!
Filleting wastes so much flesh. Only ever do cutlets on a large flathead. Also, you can't cook a fillet evenly, because there is a thick end and a thin end.
I usually fillet but I might give cutlets a go, sounds good.
Good eating right there.
good video cheers :)
Mate never tell people to use a blunt knife, they waste more than they save.
nah not too effective.... u can with tweasers but i find it a trick buisness
