Haha, I've never seen a fish scaled like that. Hilarious! If you want a great scaler when you don't have the hose handy, get 3 beer lids and nail them in line, to a bit of broom handle and you'll have a fantastic scaler.
I enjoyed watching that, keep up the good work. You might want to consider an angled cut instead of straight across to capture all of the meat behind the head.
Love the scaling technique. Gotta give it a try. Recommend a sharper knife though. On bigger fish make sure you get up towards the head more. Good meat up there.
2:35 Beautiful scaling stinking Lawn. I would get an empty onion net bag and clean the fish inside to catch the scales or mount it upright at the end of table let water through not scale.
Thank you for the Video Alex. I wish I had watched watched before I tried to fillet mine 🥴🥴. Do you have any tips on what knife to buy / use ?? What is th eknife you have. Mine never seem sharp enough. cheers Hayden
Great video, but yeah a purpose sharpened filleting knife will avoid the wastage of the white gold. And what happened to the beer batter episode?? Would love to see the recipe. Might tear me away from garlic, salt and butter on my favourite fish finally!
Thanks for all the amazing videos Alex. What's the correct procedure for dispatching these little guys? Break their necks like salmon? If you've run out of ideas for videos then a series of how to correctly dispatch each species would be amazing.
i'm from the UK and really enjoy carp fishing. I've watched you carp fishing videos and wonder if our European tactics would work better. I was wondering if you had a p.o. box or somewhere I could post the rigs and fake plastic corn bait we use and maybe you could do a video comparing the way you normally fish to our rigs, bait and tactics.
got a pressurised line on my boat to get around this very issue, works the same, and the guts go straight into the burley bucket while the fillets go straight onto ice in the holding tank.
mate super fresh is caught and prepped cooked out of the water, caught yesterday is not super fresh and borderline fresh get your head around this mate asap.
Scaling the fish with fresh water not good bacterial salt water scaling be better.i don't even scale or gut I just fillet and skin and make sure I don't get any gut
Never saw a fish scaled like that. Awesome!
That hose scaling is amazing! Going to try that now!... Ok, I'm back. Man, that is the best hack ever, worked a treat! How did I not know about this??
This was perfect! Caught a whiting today and I had no idea what to do! This video fed me for the night 😅

Loved the fish flying!
Lmao!
Man that’s absolutely cracked me up when you sprayed the fish off the table
😂 loved it
Great video Alex, information was basic, but thorough
I enjoyed watching that, keep up the good work. You might want to consider an angled cut instead of straight across to capture all of the meat behind the head.
Hose scaling and lawn fertilizing in one. Brilliant...
Alex is a legend. Ripper video mate 🍻
Great video. Watched it on the boat. It helped a lot later, cheers!
That I never saw that before scale
Thanks this realy helped 😄
Thanks mate this vid really helped me ❤
Wonderful video great job
Love love love the scale trick
Great video mate
Great catch and cook
Love the scaling technique. Gotta give it a try. Recommend a sharper knife though. On bigger fish make sure you get up towards the head more. Good meat up there.
best intro ever!
Great informative vid 👍
that method of using the hose n spraying it against the scale was pretty sick haha
Great video. Subscribed from NYC!
Good job!
2:35 Beautiful scaling stinking Lawn. I would get an empty onion net bag and clean the fish inside to catch the scales or mount it upright at the end of table let water through not scale.
Nice im gonna try that method with the water jet
You could just stop right before the tail and cut into the meat and skin it if you do it right you won’t loose any meat

Great video i cought a whitting yesterday i took off the head and gut it out I nee to learn how to do this thanks
Great video!!!
Thanks 😊
More vids please, your killing it
Great video, but yeah a purpose sharpened filleting knife will avoid the wastage of the white gold. And what happened to the beer batter episode?? Would love to see the recipe. Might tear me away from garlic, salt and butter on my favourite fish finally!
Need to see it
Thanks mate
Thanks for all the amazing videos Alex.

Break their necks like salmon?
If you've run out of ideas for videos then a series of how to correctly dispatch each species would be amazing.
Every species should be the same. Iki jime and bleed them, sooner the better and straight on ice slurry
I just use them for bait it’s like shark candy
Well done, but a sharper knife Might help a tad :)
Love the accent
That is the best way to De-scale a fish 😂
legend
Caught a load of fat whiting off Cornwall, just need to do the filleting now
Where exactly in Cornwall? Mate
Good one, how do yellowfin taste compared to king George? I have never tried yellowfin.
I think they taste better myself
@@shaunakaburger agreed, but if I caught a King Gee I wouldn't complain either.

How much water do you use when scaling fish surely it must be pretty expensive
finally out fishing really?? 3 minutes of water.... tight ass.
like every fishing video on youtube is from Australia
why don't you gut before filleting?
The skip jack ( Tennessee Tarpin) will scale like this
Don't you feel you are wasting too much fish?
Be honest...
Butchering or filleting whiting?
seen a lot worse, much much worse!
should probably use a knife not a blunt stick
Using the hose to scale fish wastes a lot of water. I suggest using a scaler.
😊😊👍👍👍
Nice vid mate. Try not to let your fish touch fresh water - it's the enemy of saltwater fish and seafood.
Just went to anaconda and saw you in store. You’re pretty tall.
Scaling with a hose omg why didn’t I think of that
I have used a spoon to scale fish before
I just cook it whole and peel bits off
Never use fresh water on fish. Mind you, you think next day whole fish is fresh. All that dead gut cavity been festering inside.
got a pressurised line on my boat to get around this very issue, works the same, and the guts go straight into the burley bucket while the fillets go straight onto ice in the holding tank.
Also you need a good quality filleting knife
Don't make no more videos.
mate super fresh is caught and prepped cooked out of the water, caught yesterday is not super fresh and borderline fresh get your head around this mate asap.
The size limit on yellow Fin whiting in south Australia are 24cm. mate I think every normal person would be able to see that they are under size.
Piss off dickhead
@@charlie1470 mate do they not look under size to you? Hahahahahahahahahah 😂😂😂😂
The only thing under size is your brain - fish look smaller on camera
@@charlie1470 Hahaha mate go and watch your 25 mins of kahoot
Big Nate Aussie oh how did u know - bet u watched the whole thing coz u didn’t know how to skip it
That first cut angle is poor. There is meat at the back of the head that you missed
That first fillet cut under the pectoral fins was so wrong! So much meat wasted, should cut it the opposite side
Scaling the fish with fresh water not good bacterial salt water scaling be better.i don't even scale or gut I just fillet and skin and make sure I don't get any gut
I am sure you realize that not everyone has that power hose; I would have liked to see the descaling done using a knife as well.
Punctured gall bladder I think
thought you are tripping
A lot of wastage.....butterfly fillet around ribs and you won't lose so much meat....
What a hack job
Blunt knife
Never use fresh water
Why bother scaling them anyway, just skin them after you take fillet off, ffs sharpen ur knife!!!!
why? nothing wrong with cooking/eating the skin and yea a sharp knife makes things a lot easier
Throw the knife away and buy a proper filleting knife, bet your garden stinks with those scales 😂
Bro you got to shorten that intro jeez
Intro a bit long
This is NOT the correct way, find how the Dutch do it, it's called: wijting vlinderen
What a waste of water
You waisted so much
Mate u don't know how to fillet
What a waste of water
