  • I've been following ‪@RetroClaude‬ 's stash busting journey and she shared a wonderful idea for scraps - the beekeeper's quilt! Making the hexipuffs by hand is fun - but I'm so excited to have figured out how to use my CSM to help me feel less overwhelmed.

    Engineering knits is a place for people who enjoy all kinds of vintage and antique crafts - from sewing to knitting, crochet to embroidery I like to try it all. I definitely have a preference for historical fibre crafts, and it is my dream to one day make an entire outfit from sheep to sweater. I hope you enjoy watching me and my favorite companion, Nutella, struggle through some fascinating projects!

    Genius!! I don’t have a CSM but I could try this on my flat bed knitting machine! As long as your gauges are close-ish, the 3 methods of handknit, csm and flatbed could really keep it interesting and moving quickly. Can’t wait to see the finished result!

    Yes please, I would like to see Hexipuff progress updates. It helps me with my procrastination (aka inability to complete WIPs when I've lost that lovin' feeling)
    Also, would it really be a crime to make the puffs bigger??? All I can think of is all the hand sewing, the joining, the stuffing, the inevitable WIP... bigger puffs = less hand finishing.

    As a process knitter who always has an ongoing project but has very few finished projects, I think having the ability to modularly do both hand knitting and CSM knitting is PERFECT for keeping up momentum, variety, and reducing overwhelm. (plus the scrappiness makes it fun to return to in between other projects) I think I'd always have enough for one or two hexies in my purse for waiting around at places, but then having the CSM set up at home for longer sessions would be nice too. Is this just my way of convincing myself to invest in a CSM? Maybe lol

    • @PersonalitySituation
      @PersonalitySituation 8 місяців тому +1

      A chain of hexipuffs would mean less setup time adding waste yarn. That would be awesome, and really crank out a long chain of hexipuffs just to get one of the borders going. Wondering if you re-use waste yarn over and over it'll become unuable, and just fold it inside the hexipuff with a little bit of stuffing?

    okay hear me out, I've been looking at my scraps and thinking about using my sentro circular knitting machine to do a puff quilted thing. It has 22 pins and it's really easy to make a nice little puff, you would probably need to lower the number of pins you're working on in the round, and to close up each puff you'd cinch it shut on either end, stuff it and THEN finish it, it would possibly add some interesting texture to the blanket because the cinched puffs would have a different look compared to the heel/toe puffs! with this being a scrappy project it's a great time to experiment :)

    So fun! I recently started a Ten Stitch blanket to use up my scraps. I am really enjoying it. I honestly can't imagine knitting so many puffs on the CSM. I think I would much prefer hand knitting them. But I also knit primarily to pass time and enjoy the process of knitting. Also I don't think my disabled body would be happy with the cranking motions of the CSM versus the smaller motions of knitting by hand. That said, I would love to try out a CSM sometime. Though, I do need a deep heel for my socks, so it would take lots of trial and error to make socks that would fit me.
