    Engineering knits is a place for people who enjoy all kinds of vintage and antique crafts - from sewing to knitting, crochet to embroidery I like to try it all. I definitely have a preference for historical fibre crafts, and it is my dream to one day make an entire outfit from sheep to sweater. I hope you enjoy watching me and my favorite companion, Nutella, struggle through some fascinating projects!

    I love the idea of the spider web yoke on a sweater. I'd do it without the spider, and then on spooky occasions I'd break out a big sparkly spider pin!

    "Spider K-legs"/torchon lace - that's French for "dishrag" (so: "tor-shon"). Makes sense, given how sturdy-looking the swatch is. All of these vintage patterns and motifs serve to remind us that our grandparents were kooks, too.

    The return of your gunne-saxoween dress! This dress is probably my favorite of your makes and I just realized that I have 2 project bags that use the same printed fabric!
    That lace collar is absolutely lovely, makes me want to try lace-weight crochet for the first time!

    That skull and crossbones sweater is something I could absolutely see being sold at one of my favourite punk/goth/vintage shops. I would love to make one, though I’ve never actually done any colour work before as I find it extremely intimidating. I would also definitely make it in black and white, though the red sounds like it would be cute too!

    Love your videos, the lace one is filet crochet made up of blocks, spaces and bars and lacets. I am completing a diploma in crochet and have just finished a filet tray mat. ❤

    In a pinch, I suggest embroidering a design in duplicate stitch on a sweater or cardigan or knitted dress you already have with spooky designs which can be removed later if desired.

    What fun patterns! Thank you for sharing. I loved halloween specific clothing when I was a kid, but as an adult, I don't really understand having clothes that you're only supposed to wear for one month or one season. If I made any themed items it is more likely to be a fall themed sweater or something because I live in the southern US, so I would only be able to wear something like that during the fashionably appropriate season anyway. I did knit two decorative pumpkins from scrap yarn and a modern pattern this year. They are halloweeny, but I didn't put faces on them. We'll probably have them on display until at least the new year. I like them a lot.

    • @moniqueleigh
      @moniqueleigh 8 місяців тому +2

      Honestly, it was probably intended to evoke "pirate" more than simply "Halloween" anyway. Pirate-themed movies were huge in the 1950s & 60s. And I had a fair number of hand-me-down kids' books (from my dad & his younger siblings who grew up in the 50s/60s) that were pirate-themed in some way or another. My grandmother had a trunk full of "dress-up" clothes that she saved for us grandkids, & there were a fair few that could definitely be called "pirate style". LOL

    My favorite is the mad mod 60s one! I would love to find that pattern! I've got a few 80s patterns with that dolman sleeve construction that I'm really eager to get to. I've been putting off learning sleeve setting like nobody's business, so all the next sweaters in my queue have in-one sleeves.

    so much knitting to do, so little time!
    btw, Torchon has more of a long ah at the end, instead of an uh. you pronounced it like torsion, try more like tor-shahn, but not as far over as tor-shawn... learned from US lacemakers who learned in England...
